Horizons Ship destroyed on planet surface

I've just had a slightly odd thing happen. I just flew out to Sagittarius A* for the first time in my Asp, which was equipped with an SRV. After flying around the black hole for a little while, I headed to a nearby system and landed on an ice world. I'm pretty sure I left my ship in its usual configuration. I got in my SRV and headed off across the ice. I did not dismiss the ship, as I was playing in solo.

After a while (enough time to find and collect three meteorites, plus put the baby to sleep) I started playing again where I had left off (I left the game on during my absence). After a few minutes a message came up: "ship destroyed."

After a "what the ..." moment, I checked the panel and found the ship was not there. So I'm left stuck in my SRV in the back of beyond. I hope sometime in the future someone'll come across Commander Discjirm III and place some flowers on my icy grave. And perhaps kick the wreckage of my Asp and say: "You piece of rubbish" ;)

Did I do something stupid, or might this be a bug? I've not too much lost (just four days play, plus my deepest space journey yet), but I won't make a voyage into the deep black with an SRV until I work out what happened.

But if it isn't a bug, I'd love Frontier to put something in the game saying *why* your ship was destroyed, particularly if you are far away from it in the SRV.

Anyone had their ship spontaneously explode in a similar manner? I'm pretty sure all the systems were stable when I left the poor thing ...

Edit: but dang, this game is dangerous .... :)

Thanks everyone.

What's the best way to raise this with support? Through the bugs forum or is there another part of the site better suited?

If it was an NPC attack, then exploring has just got a whole load more tricky ...

Cheers.

Don't leave your ship on the surface would be the lesson, here, I guess.
I'm not sure it qualifies as a bug, but support could at least be able to tell you what destroyed you ship.

EDIT: Interesting thing, though. I suppose surface bases and cities don't have a shipyard for this very reason. I think dodging the insurance by going to the city and buying a new ship could kind of break the game. :D

I'd be interested to know what killed you if you find out. There have been assassins from time to time in Sagittarius A* killing explorers for fun though...

When I was planning this trip during Beta, I decided it would be safest on the planet surface where it is harder to see on scanners. That might well have been an incorrect idea. :(

The only other thing I can think of is that the ship tried to take off after I had driven a certain distance (what is the trigger for that: the distance the SRV is away from the ship, or the time it's been away?), and something happened. But as I said, I believe I left the ship in its normal state.

Now there is an increasing disconnect between pilot and ship, it'd be good if there could be a summary of *why* the ship was destroyed when you are far away.

Normally you see by whom you were killed when you are presented by an insurance screen. I guess it's not the case when you are left alone in your SRV, then?

AFAICR the message was just "ship destroyed."

Ho hum. The game really is dangerous. :)

Edit: I haven't seen the insurance screen yet as the guy in the SRV hasn't committed suicide. He's still sitting there, wondering where his ship is. It was a low-G planet, so it could be that bits of it are all over the place. ;)

iirc in the past if they have given someone back their ship in the last location they were when destroyed, they used to say "Sorry, but we can't get your data back" :(

Not really. If I just lost my Anaconda and all of its upgrades, I'm not gonna scoot off world in a cheaper ship just to pay all that money to get a new Anaconda. Paying the insurance is just cheaper. But Michael Brookes claims there ARE shipyards on the surface at the big ringed cities but I have yet to come across one.

Edit: OP, take this opportunity to find survival materials until a rescue team can come and evacuate you (of course, not until multi crew arrives). Sounds like an adventure to me! You've given me a great idea. :)

Edit #2: "Captain's log-It is day 6 and I have yet to find signs of life on this barren world. I have traveled hundreds of kilometers in hopes of finding another CMDR who can help me off of this planet. Yet still, my only current option is self-destruction. But I refuse to give in as I have hope that someone will come to rescue me. My fuel supplies are running low and the integrity of the SRV hull plummets with each mistake I make. Oh look...I don't have a distress beacon like the NPCs do..."

Man, that really sucks. I feel for you and hope it is a bug so FD can reimburse you. 4 days are 4 days, after all. Especially with a baby to care about ( have 2 children, myself)

Gave me a shudder, reading your post, imagining to drive an SRV over the surface without any ship or help, there. This must feel so lonely and desperate.
I would have trouble, killing myself, would probably try to find materials to repair/ refuel. But what for?
Man, if i only could help you.

Wish you a good outcome, Cmdr.

I think the ship dismisses itself when you get a certain distance away from it. You would see a "ship departing" message.

If I were you, I'd sit tight in the SRV until tomorrow. Support may well be able to send you a replacement ship!
