If they are going to introduce Guilds (as per your other post) I would like to think that perhaps the Guilds themselves would have varying types of vessels that would have different names. Maybe keep the original names from Elite / Elite 2 (to pay homage) and introduce some new ones.

All depends on how many different class of ships there are and if they will be procedurally generated or not.

Personally I am hoping for a Marauder Class vessel .. just love that word .. Marauder

Maybe guild ships that can become available depending on the size of the guild and your rank within said guild. Would be cool to have guild support cruisers, all the way up to guild command ships for the guild leaders, that can do fleet jumps to extend the range of the smaller ships and also to re supply the smaller ships mid flight. Smaller ships such as corvettes and fighters would also be available for lower ranked members.

I think the ship you are both looking for was the "Argents Quest" link bellow for details, but it was a secret ship in FFE and its tail would sway like a shark swimming as it went along. But with the size of the gun you could get on it, it was more like Talon than Moya

Gutamaya uses historical marine vessel classes and Core Dymamics uses species of bird, which gave me a couple of ideas:
From Gutamaya, the Imperial Dinghy class warship. It should be a warship since in ED, Gutamaya give the smallest ship names to the biggest ships. I would guess a cargo capacity of 1400 and 5 huge hardpoints.
From Core Dynamics, the Great Bustard specialised PvP griefing ship.
