ship impound is stupid

Made a mistake doing an on-foot mission and got insta-fragged by an npc.
Teleported away as usual, and now this is the second time I'm seeing this screen and really angry.
Absurd prices, and the cops just teleport over to my fleet carrier to impound my other vessels as well.
I have to pay my bounty--and the impound fees, but I leave still with bounty and notoriety.

What did you do to turn the NPC hostile?

I have occasionally had no immediate access to a ship after ending up in the pokey, so had to APEX out to where I could call a ship. Not sure what you mean by impounded.

This is where if you're sent to prison on an Odyssey mission, every ship you own that you used that has a bounty on it now can not be used until you pay the rebuy cost on it- potentially running into 10s of millions if you've swapped around ships between illegal missions.

Good to know it's the rebuy cost of the ship now... I switched to something cheaper thinking I would go stick it to those feddies and cost them my money back.. but when turning in my on-foot goodies I see that there's been a nerf. This whole PP2 experience is a massive RIP from front to back.. what a chore...

The current crime and punishment system is so bad. Hopefully you have the $$$ to pay the fee. And yes small ships for any Ody work is the order of the day, everyday.

Ah yes, that's been a popular topic recently. Yes, the crime and punishment system only impacts occasional or accidental criminals whilst the billion credit bounty 'fugitives' aren't actually touched by it because they know the system.
Sounds a lot like real life actually, doesn't it?
;)

Never been sent to the pokie involuntarily, did it on purpose once just to see what all the fuss was about, no big deal to me, but then I don't run around doing big on crime.

Hold on, so if I have a ship with a bounty of, say, 1,000cr, if I get caught by the law while on foot, they instead charge you the rebuy fee now? Not sure I follow the logic in that unless I misunderstand you there.

Actually makes a lot of sense. In (sensible) parts of the world, when you get a vehicle fine you pay a % of your salary. Those countries are genius.

One of my weekly things to do for PP 2 is to commit crimes. This coming form a power that with the ethos of law and order. So that doesn't exactly fit.

I decided maybe I can do some corpo espionage and get the bounties on the side. Which kind of worked except. Noteriety 2 and <1/10th of the needed value. So apparently they want me to outright mass murder. Which doesn't fit the ethos.

So I had to stay online for 4 hours before I could do anything to clear things up.

wow cool game mechanic, wonder which genius invented this. updated my review to negative. 4m credits reward to infiltrate a dumb settlement. get shot by 5000 rtrds instantly as u approach the door because you know how else do you get in there's only one entrance with 20 guards in frojnt of it. magically get all your ships impounded and have to pay 50m in impound fees ??? nice loop gonna flame in steam review

I was today years old when I learnt that getting your ship impounded is a thing. I've respawned at a Prison Ship a few times, but I would certainly remember having to pay my ship's rebuy cost in order to be able to fly it again!

I'm still not completely clear on how ship impoundments actually happen. So it can happen if you get killed on-foot by lawful NPCs? That seems like a massive discrepancy compared to what happens if the cops blow you up in your ship. I'm pretty sure I've had that happen to me and not needed to pay millions to fly my own ship again.
