ship interiors - will they happen

The interior of my ship is for me and whoever I give permission to only.

Unauthorised acces will trigger this message.
“Intruders detected self destruct in 10 seconds”
This will be a lie of course self destruct will occur half a second after the message ends.
I think it's better to start the countdown, to give that false sense of security.

"This ship will detonate in ten, ni-" BOOM

There's actually logic to that idea.
Given the relatively few that have access to buy & fly the Cobra MkIV, making it the first ship with interiors would act as a de facto beta test.

Added walking on your FC, how much of a game changer do you think it was ?

It looked good, but hasn't been fully thought through. It's unfortunate that Frontier failed to give us the ability to actually control the Carrier fully from the bridge.

If I keep having to run back to the hangar after every jump to transfer tritium or honk a new system, then I start not bothering to return to the bridge. They should have anticipated that. Still fixable, if they add those capabilities to the bridge chair console.

That's not the way to do that. It should be "Self destruct in 10 seconds... nine... three, two, one!" Just to make sure you maximize that "oh, carp!" feeling. :)

New SCO enabled ship ramps are walkable right up to the door.... could be a sign of things to come.

Flimley

Really? I'm going to have to check that out, once the Type-8 becomes available for sale for credits. I have no particular use for the Python Mk II.

I don’t think they do. Even in Star Citizen with all its grandiose plans they’ve added very little gameplay until recently.

Ship interiors can be amazing, but to make them anything more than something pretty to hang stuff up in you’d need to redesign the entire game.
Not sure an entire overhaul of the game is necessary. Odyssey was meant to incorporate this sort of thing.
Ian's remark, "Boarding NPC ships for salvage, repairs, sabotage, etc. could be included without having to rewrite the existing game mechanics too much" seems like the most realistic jumping off point as it would contain the interior ship experience to Odyssey missions only.

Feels like the majority of players misunderstand what ship interiors actually are (more than just aesthetic or adding some missing layer to the personal ship experience). They're not just an add-on to Odyssey (first-person), but they're actually an entirely different dimension within the game.

And if interiors were ever added, they would ultimately have to interact with and have real impacts on the player experience, progression, and how the game operates. In short, interiors would be a massive backend expansion that would encapsulate the entire game.

For example, whether someone is playing co-op with a friend or has a hired NPC crew, accessing a ship's interior should incorporate things into the game. Like having an NPC crew on your ship, leveling up their ability to repair systems whenever you're under attack and hull is taking damage. It takes time to run around the ship, access certain systems in certain corridors, etc., and at first your crew starts out slow and they panic when you're in combat and things start breaking/exploding but over time they level up and become competent and invaluable additions to your ship. They get hurt/injured/killed if things go bad, and if you have someone playing with you, they can work with the NPCs to optimize systems on your ship during a mission, etc., stuff like this.

It also opens up a can of worms for people to sneak onto ships, sabotage systems, assassinate crew, steal your inventory, track & give away your position, all these things...

Ship interiors for the sake of just running around a ship, making it look pretty, hanging out in your quarters, etc., doesn't add much.
What you say could be a next expansion to the interior of ships, Your comment reminded me of this lost gem.

1) It's a rare ship which actually takes significant module damage in combat, for an experienced player - super-engineered shields will tend to stop most NPCs ever doing module damage, and a dedicated combat ship is likely to have some MRPs too, and maybe an AFMU to keep the MRPs topped up on certain builds.
My experience of AX sites has been quite the opposite recently! Especially against Glaives.

Static ships on the ground, sure.

Hmm, I thought the colliders of the boarding ramps on any old ship whose stairs are wide enough to fit the player collider, allow for at least partial ascent, don't they?
