Feels like the majority of players misunderstand what ship interiors actually are (more than just aesthetic or adding some missing layer to the personal ship experience). They're not just an add-on to Odyssey (first-person), but they're actually an entirely different dimension within the game.
And if interiors were ever added, they would ultimately have to interact with and have real impacts on the player experience, progression, and how the game operates. In short, interiors would be a massive backend expansion that would encapsulate the entire game.
For example, whether someone is playing co-op with a friend or has a hired NPC crew, accessing a ship's interior should incorporate things into the game. Like having an NPC crew on your ship, leveling up their ability to repair systems whenever you're under attack and hull is taking damage. It takes time to run around the ship, access certain systems in certain corridors, etc., and at first your crew starts out slow and they panic when you're in combat and things start breaking/exploding but over time they level up and become competent and invaluable additions to your ship. They get hurt/injured/killed if things go bad, and if you have someone playing with you, they can work with the NPCs to optimize systems on your ship during a mission, etc., stuff like this.
It also opens up a can of worms for people to sneak onto ships, sabotage systems, assassinate crew, steal your inventory, track & give away your position, all these things...
Ship interiors for the sake of just running around a ship, making it look pretty, hanging out in your quarters, etc., doesn't add much.
