Can't really understand why this would be such a job to implement. There is already a system at work with values assigned to each component or weapon. How else could the outfitting screen warn you of a reduction in performance unless some kind of check of the current value against the proposed value occurs?
Not only that, there must be expressable numerical values for each start for the system to work. For example, unless my shields have a defined value, then how does the game know how to show this when a weapon hits them?
E.g. Shields of my ship are 240 and laser shot does 8 damage per shot. 2 shots impact shields therefore new shield value is now 224. Etc.
Why is so difficult to just show these values which would be determined by the combination of ship internals and utility mounts for buffs?
You're neglecting the posibility that they don't WANT or NEED the numbers to be known.. because nothing like that actually exists. What I mean is, lets say in real life... you pick up a hand gun, and shoot at the wall. How many points of damage did you do? How many armor points does an armored car have? How many points of damage does that knife do?
In a way, assigning numbers to these things is a little silly. I like the values being a lot more vague. This is why when you go into outfitting.. they simply tell you if the weapon does more or less than the one equipped.
It isn't that they can't display the numbers involved.. it's that there is no need to.
