Ship Stats

Is there any way to see them in-game? Shields strength, for example?

No not really. Even the stats stated in the store are incorrect. (A Cobra is actually much faster than a similar rated Viper for example). They have always said they want to add ship stats but have never got around to it.

No sorry chap, other than the obvious of pausing the game and Alt tabbing out to ED Shipyard or something like that. People have complained for a while that the current system is a little bit vague with little information and I think they has taken note and are doing something about it with different values to describe them I believe but no idea of it's implementation in the game chap.

Can't really understand why this would be such a job to implement. There is already a system at work with values assigned to each component or weapon. How else could the outfitting screen warn you of a reduction in performance unless some kind of check of the current value against the proposed value occurs?

Not only that, there must be expressable numerical values for each start for the system to work. For example, unless my shields have a defined value, then how does the game know how to show this when a weapon hits them?

E.g. Shields of my ship are 240 and laser shot does 8 damage per shot. 2 shots impact shields therefore new shield value is now 224. Etc.

Why is so difficult to just show these values which would be determined by the combination of ship internals and utility mounts for buffs?

You're neglecting the posibility that they don't WANT or NEED the numbers to be known.. because nothing like that actually exists. What I mean is, lets say in real life... you pick up a hand gun, and shoot at the wall. How many points of damage did you do? How many armor points does an armored car have? How many points of damage does that knife do?

In a way, assigning numbers to these things is a little silly. I like the values being a lot more vague. This is why when you go into outfitting.. they simply tell you if the weapon does more or less than the one equipped.

It isn't that they can't display the numbers involved.. it's that there is no need to.

I don't agree with your analogy because this game isn't real life. I don't need to know about a handgun in real life because life isn't a game that works through calculation of values.

On the other hand if I'm spending virtually millions of game currency on system upgrades then it would be useful to me to know the damage value of one weapon over another because it could influence my decision to purchase one over another. Is it worth spending an extra 20% on a weapon or system that gives a 3% increase over the next option down?

So I argue that this information would be useful. It would also be nice to see just as a spec. We see a Base shield and armour value when buying a ship, but those then change depending on loadout but I don't know how or by how much.

EDIT: And it's fine that you prefer the info to be vague, but please don't mistake this preference or the fact that you personally think assigning values is silly, to it not being a valid request. Other games show these values and ED is unusual for not. Other people are obviously interested as well else the topic would not have been created.
