Ships attacking not showing colour change

Yes! I had noticed that but I didn't even consider it being part of the same bug!

While we're on the subject of security forces, I note that usually once I join in a fight with a damaged pirate (the security forces damaged him), the security forces stop shooting at him completely, and I'm left on my tod to deal with him - and I'm usually outclassed, because I go in with a light fighter (a modded-up Sidewinder) to minimise rebuy costs. It's almost as if they say like 'Hey look, someone else has joined in, we can let him finish the job and we'll all go have a cup of tea'.

Does that normally happen with the security forces, or could this too be part of the same bug?
Part of the same bug I think. Usually if I join in with Sec Forces, they continue attacking.
 
I can confirm, as 25.12.2021 - attacking ships do not turn red, I was stormed by 7-10 attackers in my Vette, only wan was red - I was taking fire from all directions without knowing who are shooting - I lost almost all shields and only boosting away and shooting at the one who were following me saved me....
My deployed fighter only attacked ONE ship, the only one who was red - the others shooting at me do not turn red... game breaking bug, I remember the bug being reported well ahead last patch - and yet, the EDev do not fix this crap....

I got to agree. It's ridiculous they are not putting out another hotfix next year and pushing resolving this issue to Update 10. The bug introduced in Update 9 broke the ship combat gameplay, and yet they put out a hotfix for exobiology scans. Explorers can still explore the traditional way, but combat is completely borked when you don't even know who is shooting at you and who is neutral.
 
Attacking NPCs like to talk. If you get an aggressive message in your comm panel then you know that name will be in your contacts. Target that name in the left hand panel, find that ship, scan them, and return fire. It’s still annoying and it’s not foolproof, because not every NPC is going to announce their presence, but it’s at least a partial workaround.

Lol, almost useless "solution" man, when you are in a Haz, and already fighting a wing of pirates - you have fraction of second between turning, aiming, shooting ! How many times you engaged 5-7 targets at once ?!

I used to engage 2 wings of pirates at once in my Vette - now I cannot, since I do not want to hit innocent miners and get more bounty on my head than I make from killing Pirates !
The combat is broken, and the EDevs turn a blind eye...
 
Everybody responds to problems in their own way. I like to look for possible workarounds. You like to whine about them. You do you, man.
Your "work around" is silly and useless in combat vs multiple enemies. But hey, you may be one of those who pick only 1 vs 1 fights, since you have no clue about the mess we face right now when engaging 1-2 wings of pirates at once, proof with your delusional "fix" or "work around" lol : "Target that name in the left-hand panel, find that ship, scan them, and return fire." - no matter you will be dead when you finish executing your "smart" workaround "fix" :p;.... But since you are one of those "only 1 vs 1 , please" kind of guy, obvious you have no idea of the mess we are in when fighting half dozen of pirates at once...

Me, on the other hand, I live from bounties, so I will not lose time in avoiding risky engagements .
My "work around" is to stop until get fixed and switch to Oddy foot fighting until this crap get fixed. And better learn the difference between "whine" about something and refusing to accept broken tings, like you do.

You - one dude - get bored. Hundreds of others got frustrated. I think it is fair to keep your "boringness" for you ( nobody force you to come here and read "boring" protests, right ? )
One of the main sources of fun on this game was ruined by Edev.s and peoples who actually play the game are frustrated because - like always - nobody from Edevs team come forward to tell us WHEN this bug will be solved !
Oddy was / it is plagued with silly bugs and the patches usually solve one and create 2 more...
 
Same problem here! I can't target hostiles attacking me because they are green and not changing to red hostile. =( They have to fix this ASAP not update 10.

I did the "mistake" to attack a swarm of ships who I was thinking are the one shooting me - they were, indeed, but in the mix I hit 2 simple miners since is no way to differentiate them in the rush of fighting multiple ships at once - I end up with a bounty bigger than I liked... is a game breaking bug, and the EDevs seems to be in no hurry to fix this crap...

The issue is bloody annoying, but it has been acknowledged and being worked upon. The thing is, it won't be fixed during the holidays: it has been stated loud and clear.
What's the point of whining more while no one is listening during this time? It won't make the fix any quicker.
The practical approach is to find a workaround that works for you: ignore combat, engage 1 at a time, scan them all... You pick it, but saying that someone who tries to make the most of a difficult situation is a shill is very poor form.
It is not about excusing the devs, there is no excuse for this blunder: it's about being practical and living well.

You forgot to mention THE most important thing: IS VERY frustrating !

That is the middle finger from EDevs to this community - I mean, during this time most of us are at home, and we play a lot more than during normal times when we work. Allowing a bug to "cut off" one of the most important aspects of this game - the fighting, the bounty hunting, etc - and let's be clear about, is a bug CREATED by the devs around patch 9 , as a proof of their "pro" level in developing this game - then they just wash their hands off, telling us "!it won't be fixed during the holidays" only create a higher level of frustration and I fully understand why many of us come here to express this feeling. Is human.
