Should Elite Dangerous add clans/player factions in the future

Should Elite Dangerous add clans/player factions in the future?

  • Absolutely yes, it is a travesty that the game doesn't already.

  • Yes but I'd prefer Frontier concentrated on adding a lot more depth to the game in general first

  • No, I'd be concerned that it might ruin the game for those who don't clan

A simple straight up community vote. I've tried to expand the voting options from a simple Yes/No to get a more detailed community impression.

Personally I think the game shouldn't have it but maybe that is just me.

No thanks here either. I hate clan stuff. I don't mind winging up with buddies but pirate clans and such - bleurgghhh. Just a way of legalising griefing.

Except it's all already happening already. At least with guild flags you'd have warning before the interdiction.

I dont think they are needed. Elite does things differently. If you get a group/community of players large enough you can ask FD to create a minor faction for you. Like the Mobius group has. The P2P networking does not allow enough players in a session to make actual in-game clans worth while.

The chat function needs big improvements though! That is the thing letting down group play. It needs to be similar to an IRC style chat, where players can make their own rooms etc.

The problem with clans/player groups is that in some cases you can't succeed in areas of the game if you don't belong to one, because of the might of the group that may be working against you.

Exactly. Plus you can create your own group to play together with a fixed set of buddies, do background PvE stuff, whatever.

The last thing this game needs is large, organised antagonists defending 'their' territory. Pirate groups are good, they add spice and their gameplay requires interaction with non-affiliates but large groups would just undermine the point of the game for me. It would create a bunch of no-go zones and discourage mixing.

People, we're already here. Yes, the game doesn't support a lot of people in one instance, but we're here promoting our factions, working together, puzzling out the background sim and unleashing froggy vengence on anyone who shoots one of our tadpoles.

Fortunately both the Galaxy and the bubble are large, so if you don't want to interact with people or have their activities affect your gameplay you can find a bit of the bubble that no-one else is in and play there with your mates and not have to worry about big wings flying around. If we ever get the option to fly our flags in game (honestly, I want ship naming first) no-one says you have to join or make one. You can continue to fly solo.

OP, how do your poll options refer to what's already ingame - player backed minor factions, like moebius, code, canonn, east india coorperation - all having there minor factions, named after them, ruling systems, stations, working for expansions?

Missing option: They already exist and I can't believe that people don't know about them 6 months later.

Another option: Frontier are aware that guilds / corps / clans are a contentious issue among forum members and are treading carefully in their gradual implementation of group related features (see player sponsored Minor Factions).

Another point, forum users do not need to own the game to register and vote therefore the vote itself does not necessarily represent the opinion of players (only a tiny subset of whom have become forum members).

Easier IFF really is all that I want.

Maybe some ability to influence where our pet faction expands to (really, another system with only outposts and missing one of Repair or Re-arm?), but I'm not sure how that would work without being a powerplay-esque grind.
