Should Frontier continue labouring over Elite Dangerous? Or call it time and work on Elite Dangerous 2?

I based that comment on this logic ...
Kisckstarter money + Horizons + Odyssey is greater than Kickstarter money + LEP
Kickstarer = X
Horizons = 40
Odyssey = 40
LEP = 0
Therefore X+40+40 is greater than X+0

EDIT: And yes I know they sold the LEP for £140 after the kickstarter, but that's because it already existed. When they launched the kickstarter, they had not announced the LEP. Now think what they might have got if they had never announced the LEP, and thus X+40+40 is greater than X+0
No offense there, sorry Commander but You should check your math skills.
Let's consider X's as well
I payed £33 or £36 for a base game + £120 LEP
ED Cmdr Premium edition on steam and FD store is £49.99. Just checked on trusted (NOT AT G2A or similar grey ) key shop - £30
How do in the world FD loses money of me????????
I didn't install EDO yet nor I'm going to. I'm playing EDH sometimes. All Lep's (known to me) and majority of not Lep's from my friend list didn't log in to the game for months or years. I don't think they consider EDO or ED2

Edit: only way FD could ask more money of me - I happily could pay extra to FD for ED DLC named "Wizardry uninstall pack for Elite Dangerous" ;)

You are complaining that your view was not included when describing a group you are not in.

I don't mind what features get added (I have a preference of course), I just want to know what's coming & for them to get on with it instead of seemingly constantly having to re-do things because of a lack of forward planning and re-working mistakes brought about by poor design decisions & poor quality control. There's still plenty to like about the game.
Not sure how you get 'complaining' apart from trying to construct a straw man, if anything y'all are the ones complaining, I'm just pointing out the fact that 'we' used in this situation is just an appeal to consensus/authority fallacy.. Whether I actually got the LEP or not is not as relevant as you wish it to be for the purposes of your argument. How did I know I missed out? Because I was going to purchase it literally the day after the offer for it was closed.

It's not the first time a thread like this has appeared and won't be the last.

It's the actions of individuals who are powerless to change things they don't like about the game so they begin theorycrafting the next game or what it would be like if someone else were to make/remake it.
A little like:

"ED should be handed over to Hello Games so they can build it on the Unreal Engine while CIG are designing the spaceships and CD Projekt Red are doing the distribution."

I think I touched all bases...

Sigh ... let's do this one more time ....
Kickstarter (variable amount) = X
Base game on its own = B
Horizons = £40
Odyssey = £40 (it honestly makes no difference what Horizons and Odyssey sell for, in fact let's give them letters as well, Horizons = H and Odyssey = O )
Lifetime Expansion Pass = P

X + P = LEP
B + H + O = ED
In the future two more expansions come out: F & G
So at that point Frontier have one group B + H + O + F + G or any combination thereof
And Frontier have another group X + P
So, which group is bringing in more profit for Frontier? X+P (who stopped bringing profit once the kickstarter ended) or B+H+O+F+G?

Yes I get your reference to the implied inclusivity of 'we' :)

You are (according to your own post) not a part of that group though. You are complaining that your view is not included in a sub-set that you are not in. StuartGT makes the better point that there are exceptions.

I'd buy Elite Dangerous 2 if all the planets were landable with weather & gravity based flight mechanics etc... If gas giants were interactable, comets were visible, ships had interior spaces, EVA was a thing and space was dangerous.
I certainly wouldn't trust Fdev to actually add those in at a later date (at least not before the next ice age).

Isn't the situation though, that to a new person it's B + O?
Or if you got a free Epic account it's 0 + O
And who knows what the situation will be in the future, perhaps Odyssey will be rolled into the main game so it's B + whatever the next expansion will be.

I's suggest that if Frontierr want to make more money:

1. that may not be of direct benefit to me anyway
2. they should not drop full priced expansions in the state Odyssey was in (at launch)

If no-one had been offered a discount, then Frontier would have made a ton more money, assuming that everyone would still have wanted to own ED at full price.

They need to do something as the game has gone as far as enough for me. I think by now we should of had landable earth like worlds and more interactive missions, the game is so predictable at every level and it bores me.
Being an original 84'er and a kickstarter backer just this week I've decommissioned my fleet carrier and retired all 4 of my Cmdr's to Shinrata Dezhra.
I feel like I can't find anything worth while doing in game anymore, and that's a shame.

Yea because a company that spent its entire promotion period lying about NMS gameplay features then went radio silent for over a year is a company you want to emulate as much as possible or work with.

No wonder gamers get regularly shafted when they're so willing to forgive, forget and pre-order the next dumpster fire.
Hello Games came around, delivered what was promised and have continued to churn out free (!) expansions at an amazing pace and don't seem to be stopping. Yes they botched the initial release, no one forgets that, but they have more than rendeemed themselves.

I always got the impression Elite was something of a vanity project for Braben. Hard to imagine him giving up any kind of control. As for an ED2, unless they're going to go with a server-based architecture in place of peer-to-peer an ED2 would just be marketing. There isn't anything an ED2 would bring that couldn't be done with updates and DLC.

No they didn't botch they LIED and ofc they churned out free DLC because no one in their right mind was going to give them money for content they claimed was in the original release.

Huh, for a second there I thought you were talking about Odyssey, the giveaway was the free DLC bit though. I guess calling emotes and an SRV that would be a bit of a stretch.

Bless are we doing this again. By all means, relitigate both game launches to your heart's content but if you excuse me I'm having stew for dinner then I'll be stealing tritium for my carrier so I'll tap out now.

For what's worth: LEPer here, I'm in for 120€ of cosmetics. So basically as much as the LEP cost me back then (Premium beta backer)
