Before you vote, consider the following statements

New players to the game would have zero information about Mobius unless the come to the forums first which is quite unlikely for them to do so really.
Access to Mobius takes time to get given the approval etc.

A hard coded PVE with Limited PVP version of the game that is available to all players to choose from at the start menu might well mean less players in the current 'open' environment.

Rules regarding PVP for the PVE environment could be enforced with game mechanics along the same lines as the current 'mobius rules' such as PvP only being able to occur in conflict zones / war zones or it could well be hard coded that zero PVP is possibe and no damage would be taken from being fired on by another player.

This would remove the need for one of the largest 'private groups' in the game to be continually moderated by one person.

The current Open environment would still exist without changes

This thread is not meant as a discussion for open vs group so please take those types of discussions elswhere

This thread is not meant as a discussion on griefing so please take those types of discussions eslewhere

This thread is not meant as a discussion on Mobius vs <insert group name here> so please takethose types of discussions elsewhere

Do please discuss what types of 'options' you would like for such an environment...

I really don't see the need and would rather FD focused on other issues.

Unprovoked PVP is rare in my 7 months in game.

What I think is needed is a preference menu for your game style PvP, PvE or I hate you all and I want the Universe all to myself thanks. Then you just click on your game style and the game instances you with other CMDR's who have done the same. Now you may still get the odd CMDR that thinks its fun to interdict someone in a PvE or log in PvP styles but then the game could just boot them into the we all hate you and here's a universe to yourself mode for a set time period. Failing that there's always the good old Energy Bomb.... BOOM and all is well again. o7

I actually disagree, as an open player since beta, I can say that unprovoked PVP does hapeen, and it happens often enough...

That depends on where you like to spend most of your time, and whether there's a community goal or not.

The only time I've had an unprovoked and hostile pvp encounter was around a hot system, during a community goal.

No. it would be incredibly odd to allow a player to attack a wanted NPC, but not a wanted player - there's no logic to it unless you're going to spin some pilots federation lore yarn into it that PF members don't attack each other.

Sounds like the problem you're trying to solve is that new players get attacked by vastly superior players in starter areas?

Why not just beef up system security in a few select systems to near telepathic levels such that anytime a player interdicts another ship (player or NPC) and wing of 4xvulture, 4xAnaconda appears in the instance seconds later.

That should stop newbie bullying and isn't unrealistic.
It's way too easy to commit crime in supposedly civilized space - it's about time the system security levels were upped to match their names - anarchy should be a free for all, rich or high pop systems should have a lot more police presence.

interesting idea ... minus the doomsday device hahaha oh how I used to love those things and how it never destroyed my ship when I fired one is beyond comprehension :S

But indeed, an interesting take on the 'server matchmaking' kudos :) +1

Would there be a counter to show how many people where in each version of open ? :p

Also would only be Ok with me if it was a one time thing and you where locked into whichever open you picked, if you wanted to change you had to wipe. going to solo or groups would be unaffected.

Doesn't affect me as I only play in Solo, but judging from the boards there are definitely a lot of players who would want this - so voted yes.

actually I am not trying to solve any 'problems' I am just asking if people feel there should be an PVE only mode for players that does not require joining the Mobius Group. I have played a lot of MMO's in my time and nearly all of them have offered an up front PVE only MMO environment

I think it could be confusing thinking one is in PvE when PvP shows up as well as being more restrictive in ways that would require software changes that have already been dismissed by FD.

that would also be a fair choice I feel, that you can choose a PVP MMO experience or a PVE MMO experience... and to swap between, either put in a request to 'move' your character to the other server which would require A) support to do it and B) limited in how many times you can move and of course C) take some 'time' to complete the move (days or a week maybe) as it should definitely not be a fully 'automated' move and yes groups and solo should remain unchanged

then its easy, pve only no damage taken if you fire on a player ship...

Perhaps, but does that mean their preferred style of playing is irrelevant?

Their preferred style of playing is already supported, with Solo Play, and Private Groups.

Did you know that you can make your own private group, for just you and your friends?

I'm confused, lots of people on this forum tell me this game is supposed to be a sim of some sort; surely random invincibility has no place in such a game.

Yes, I do know that. As I've said, it's of no interest to me as I'm only interested in playing single player. Solo probably doesn't suit everybody who doesn't want PvP, as they may want more widespread cooperation with players (even in a way that's difficult to do with private groups). Anyway, as I say, I have no dog in this fight.

Firstly I don't believe for a minute that ED is a sim, it is a game, a simulator simulates real world experience, ed does not do that, in ed we have faster than light travel , something which in our current reality in impossible for starters...

And lets not even go down the 'immersion' route shall we, because it will end in tears honestly...

It's not about 'random invincivility' either it is about catering an evironment for people of a given style of play without detracting from the current game mechanics in place...
