Question for the forum

Got an iMac 27 inch i5 3.4 GHz, 8GB RAM (to be upgraded to at least 24 in a few weeks) + NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M 4GB. I moved away from Windows due to their implementation of Windows 8, hence the non-windows user now.

Question - should I wait for the native MAC version to be released, or should I just install Windows 8 or 7 64bit via Basecamp, and just dual-boot into either OSX or Windows?

Anybody who is a Mac user done this already?

I often switch between KB+M and HOTAS - which will be especially necessary once the FPS/boarding mechanics are here, so for me there wasn't a whole lot of options other than to oakey rig my setup. It gets the job done, though.

I've used Boot Camp to install Windows 8 on an iMac 3.2 GHz, with 8 GB RAM. Painless enough process. The big weakness for me is the graphics- a GeForce GTX 675MX 1GB. Not sure how well that will pan out! Anyway, I'm in Standard Beta so I won't have much to report until the 29th, but you're certainly in a better position than me.

I've got pretty much the same iMac as you, except I have the GTX 775M 2GB
I bootcamp into Win 7 ultimate 64bit and ED is running very well indeed, I have no complaints at all.

If you want to be part of the Beta, then I can recommend bootcamp.
When the game is released for native OSX, then I'll move away from winders.

Edit: I moved away from Windows many years ago and arrived at OSX via various Linux distros. But, I have to say that I do like Windows 7. (But then again, maybe that's because it's ONLY running ED and AVG.)

Hi Folks
Wonderful setups you all have here!

But please, if your posting big images, could you use the spoiler tags when your creating your post? Its the little pink tag to be found on the right hand side above the text box. You might well ask why? Well its because the Moderation Team received requests from those on mobile devices, limited bandwidth or slow connections if we could do something about image heavy threads. Your cooperation in this would be greatly appreciated, thanks folks.

Also since I am here, I might as well post one of my setups :D

How's the Obutto Revolution Cockpit treating you? I almost bought one a couple weeks ago but, just couldn't let go of the $1200 with the accessories I wanted. Still tempted but, I've already dropped a couple grand+ getting ready for this game :D

Please tell me I'd hate it and it's way over priced? ;)

It's a great cockpit and really my only criticism would be that it's hard to eat dinner while sitting in it. It does come with a drinks holder though!;)

It's great having the Hotas fixed in position but I had to fix an additional piece of melamine board to the mounting plates for the X-55 to mount properly. No biggie though.

You didn't see the tabletop attachments? Seriously, they have them ;) Thanks!

It's a 52" Sony HX900. That PC was never on a tft monitor. I always play on TV's with my PC's. It's just perfect and Sony has very little input lag (newer models have 17ms). I can't even imagine to play on these tiny screens anymore, even if they are 32".

But nothing compares to the oculus rift experience. even that TV is just a tiny window compared to the rift. ED is just made for oculus and the best rift title so far. And its actually easier to play - dogfights are so crazy... it's a whole new dimension and you have a big advantage by following the enemy anywhere with your sight. even the UI panels work so fast - I just look left or right and they pop up. Total immersion!

+1 for the rift !!! :)

Also, Lime Cordial.
Thats some radioactive-looking cordial! Loving the keyboard with the red F keys though :D

I starting saving up for a new machine as soon as the Kickstarter began and got myself this...

Core i5 overclocked to 4.4ghz
16gb ram
x2 SLI'd GTX760's
x3 21.5" monitors
Thrustmaster T-Flight Hotas X

If you pop over to my thread in the Fan Creation forum you can see a vid of my self-built control panel in use too :D

But it tastes good :)

And yeah I was more than a little inspired by the BBC micro when i ordered it, shame WASD didnt offer white printing on red keys at the time though :(

That is some pretty sweet work.

DS3-tastic!

Has just occurred to me though that I could output all 17 of those mixing desk faders as MIDI and use something to convert the MIDI CC messages to game controller axis!
