What would the market be like for a gaming chair like this:

How awesome would it be to sit in one of these with a Rift?

I'm designing one (albeit simplified and a little more compact) atm ...

Awesome, One of those chairs + a RemLock onesie + an ED mug + (in my case) my 5 monitor set up = ED Gaming Pron!!

Here testing things with Falcon4 BMS but itll serve me well in ED just as well :)
Still alot to do on the pit, and when done its a matter of upgrading my hardware but its happening this winter (to the dismay of my wallet).

If interested in following the build I have a thread going in the hardware forum and on SimHQ.

Nice Attackmack. I love bespoke builds.

Edit: I'll be getting a build log going shortly as well. Hopefully it will inspire others to get building too. We need more custom builds :)

Please do! Looking forward to following your build :)

At the moment im drawing up the various panels mainly with falcon bms in mind, but this design will allow me to change the panels as quick as I can remake them!

The first set of panels will be with Falcon BMS and DCS A10 in mind, but when ive found how best to make them, Ill be able to create new panels in a matter of a few evenings so down the line ill probably be remaking them to better suit ED.

Im making them so they are ready for backlighting, even though the actual lighting is still only a future plan.

Modular / interchangeable is the way to go though I've found it hard to implement at times. My r-pod racing rig was originally meant to double up for flight sims but I ended up building a dedicated one.

Backlighting sounds very cool.

OK, guess ill throw in my humble setup pics. I call it, my virtual reality command center. Oddly enough, its all powered either by a laptop or a desktop :)

I love it, but its not perfect. Luckily I got mine in craigslist, which made it a bargain. Anyways, I had to make a few mods to make it to my liking.

The center screen is not attached directly to the volair. instead, I attached a piece of wood, firmly bolted, and then, t that wood, i attached a telescoping monitor arm (that way i can rotate, and move that center display to my preference. This comes in handy when I work, or to play dota. Basically I recline the chair back almost lying down, and then i have the center screen above me and tilted down... its the most comfortable way i have ever played.

I also bought some teflon and heavy duty plastic tie downs for the purpose of securing the swivel keyboard stand better. It is a little flimsy (since it swivels), and when i put my laptop there, it can shake somewhat. The teflon lining on the inside of the tube connector (base to swivel)and on some joints, makes it rigid and sturdy to my liking... feels very solid.

I also I bought some rubber and nylon washers at home depot, so that the swivel is sturdy, so the laptop does not rotate while I use it... again, giving it a more rigid feel.

One thing I recommend owners is to buy a few extra plastic connectors (the ones that regulate the height of the monitor and swivel). Again, I hate when the chair wobbles, even a little. As a result, I over tighten mine a little and started to develop cracks... I got me a couple of extras just in case.

Lastly, I bought me some cable management "thingys" to manage the cables on the unit... I still need to organize the ones on the back of the monitors... but that doe snot affect me and my experience in any way :)

In the end, I am so thankful i took the plunge and bought the chair.. and at $300, it s definitely a keeper (thanks craigslist)

hey ios taht Oculus DK1?
got one but not sure if it is worth of hooking it due to realy low resolution somehow think that 3 mons is better but.. what you think? :)

It is a dk2. I have both, but the other one is basically a display piece now.

Wait for DK2. If anything, just strap dk1 to get an idea... but dk2 is so much more playable, that you will never go back to the first one. Not to mention, that dk1 will likely make you an easy target for kills in open play.

ye athat was what i was tihnking.. worse thing is lo wresolution and text hard to read and there is a lot of text in there so till they dont get at least 4k dispplays I think i will stick to my triple mon setup

The DK2 with the chromatic aberration fix patch, solves the text issues... worst case scenario, with positional tracking, you lean just a tiny bit forward and its perfectly readable :) With dk2, elite is perfectly playable and immersive.

I would amputate a finger or three within five minutes with my swiveling chair and those metal holders for the HOTAS :)

Those are homemade, made out of alu, not metal ;)
Edges are rounded off. Was not able to buy a Rig, so i made my own holders.

Works brilliantly thou ! :D

Some nice setups were posted here... But... clean or at least dust wipe once a year... And all those awful cable spaghetti-monsters under the desks

Peeps with the X-55 Rhino: how does it stack up? I'm currently on a X-52 Pro and deciding whether to get the Thrustmaster Warthog or the X-55. Is the Rhino 'sloppy' like the -52, or does it perform more precisely?
