Yeah, I support bunch of organizations helping shelter pets, so I have seen all kinds of abuse, but this...this was something so different and vile I was in total shock and could not turn the video off. The Raccon dog was being skinned alive, but that is not the worst part.it did not die of that. After that hideous act, it was still being alive, tossed to other carcasses, and it looked into its own skinned body.

I cannot get that image out of my head these few days, no matter how hard I try. I cannot even play PZ, because every animal remind me of it. My own dog reminds me of it. I feel weirdly disconnected from PZ and everything regarding animals atm.
Oh yikes, yeah that’s terrible. It just takes time, usually when I see awful cases of animal abuse I need a day or two to get the image out of my head.

All the problems with PC2 has made me even more appreciate all the good things we have in PZ. And it just made me want to play PZ more. I was on the fence about buying PC2, but all the mixed reviews and especially all the troubles with the UI has completely turned me off the game. I've noticed another thing (it could be just me), but for some reason the palms in PC2 look kind of plastic to me. Otherwise, the game looks amazing.

Anyone from the PZ community playing the game?
Me. Technically. In the moments were I feel good enough to battle the UI and deal with it. But it IS a constant test of patience and if they don't change it A LOT back to what it was (less clicking) with PZ2, I will not have nearly as fun in the game.

I'll be honest, when I watched all the YouTubers I thought it can't be that bad. Baha. Oh yes... it can be...
They are listening though (they don't have a chance at this point, to be fair) and improving the UI with Update 1. We'll see how that goes.

And I find the colors way too saturated and indeed think all plants look better in PZ. It's okay for me for a theme park game, because theme parks are artificial, but in my future zoo game, I'd love to see an improvement here as well, honestly.

@FoxyDee I'm so sorry and I totally relate. There are images I saw long ago and still can't get out of my head. Videos of how farmed animals are slaughtered for instance. Also things I saw in Vietnam, which is similar to China in its consumption of every and any living thing and zero animal protection laws. I saw awful things...I'll spare you the details. I'm so sensitive to it I can't even unblur the text you've written of what you saw in the video. Thank you for doing that and sorry that I can't give you my full solidarity as a witness in this instance. I've seen too much already and it hurts too much. Even now just thinking about it all makes me feel nautious and depressed. Why are we the cruellest species on earth, just why.

I think the only thing to do is to acknowledge that there is terrible violence and cruelty in the world, that we can't change, and sadly it always goes on. Just as there are terrible wars going on now, and people suffering from climate disasters. The only thing we can do is be kind in our little corners, and if we can, donate our money or time towards projects that aim to help.

I have a neuroscience trick that may help. When you have an intrusive thought that becomes difficult to stop, you can retrain your brain. Pick a very boring visual image, something you mildly dislike but that is innocuous. For me its Gary Linneker (British ex footballer, always on tv, bores the hell out of me, as does the name Gary). Every time you have the thought that you don't want, try to switch to just visualising the boring thing. Focus on that boring thing like you're flicking a switch, and let it go. Keep at it though each time the sad thought comes back. Eventually it will get easier and you will teach your monkey mind that its going to be bored having this thought. It will come less often and when it does it will be easier to switch it off. This is how people with OCD can help themselves but it can work for anybody.

Your beautiful dog is so lucky to have you and is living the best best life. All we can do is love the animals in our lives and be mindful of what consumerism we participate in 💚

I'm so sorry you are dealing with this feeling, Foxy Dee. Videos like that can be so traumatizing and it's so hard to get them out of the head. 😭

There's very little we can do to change policies about animal cruelty in foreign countries. No matter how sad we think it is. So the best you can do for yourself is avoid this sort of information and especially videos when you know they're coming.

Desensitizing maybe works for some people but I can't confirm it from experience. For me especially pictures and videos have bigger impact than reading a story. If I have to know about something very sad or very cruel, I prefer to only read and not see any visuals or hear the sound.

Sometimes when I feel shocked by similar stuff I try convince myself that I should focus on the things I can do here and now.

Sometimes it takes days to shake off the feeling but it will go away after a while.

Maybe tell your animals that you love them and they are safe with you?

Sending you virtual hugs!

Thank you so much for your kind words @Villanelle and @Annie_konik , it means alot to me. I already feel better for being able to share my thoughs here, because when I wanted to tak about it with some people, they were like no I do not want to know about it! Which I understand, ignorance really is a bliss.

It just really got to me, as it really started as me wanting some inspiration for PZ. Your advice is appreciated, I Will continue to do good for animals where ever I can. Thank you again.

I know what you mean about it being hard to share with people. I tried to share what I saw in the farming videos with my meat-loving husband but he shut me down. I get it, it's a downer conversation and nobody likes feeling guilted! So I never pushed the issue but I did hate feeling alone with the sad things I'd seen. Finally, just a few months ago, we watched the film Okja and he decided to become vegetarian!! Honestly to me he's never been hotter 😂 It's funny it took an almost-kids film to make him realise what I have always felt.
TW: Do not watch this film at the moment, it is fiction but it has some very upsetting scenes and themes. Maybe when you're feeling strong again. I liked it but I cried a lot. And it turned my man veggie, which I thought was impossible, so...yeah. Impactful.

I had a vegan friend who would just break down in tears sometimes at the thought of all the animal cruelty in the world. You're not alone...we're not alone. It is really hard. We don't have to accept it. Just learn to live with it and not inflicting any of it upon ourselves. We are good to care, there's nothing wrong with it. People who turn a blind eye are just protecting themselves from the same feelings. And those that don't feel...well, they're the problem.

I can only speak for myself, but seeing horrific things like this allways makes me want to get into activisn and there are many small ways to be active to make the world a better place.
For example picking up dogs at a shelter to take with you on the walks you will do anyways with your dog, setting down and petting some lonely cats, donating a little to charity, for example i allways let my change go into a box at my local pet store for street dogs in eastern europe.
There are many, many ty things going on on this planet, but there are allways many tiny things that you can do to make a difference. You might not be able to help those racoon dogs you saw, but you can make a poor shelter dogs day by just taking them out on a walk, and while one doesnt make the other thing go away, for that one dog you will defenetly make a difference

That's such a lovely idea, I love this! I'll see if I can help my local vet with any dog walking, sometimes they hold dogs and cats temporarily.

Fauna and Flora are my fave wildlife charity. They do lots of work in Asia:

There is some good progress being made. In the 90s and early 2000s it was all about banning fur farming in Europe. Now its about banning the sale and import of fur. The UK have a bill up for discussion currently:
No customers = no sales = no farming.

Humane Society are a good one to donate to to end fur farming.

Aw how sad. I don't know him but I googled him and he was so young  looks like a really tragic and unlucky accident, his poor family

In completely different and random news I am going to see Bob Dylan tonight at the Albert Hall in London. Followed by an obligatory visit to London Zoo the following day! Skiving off work today so I can head down early  Grew up with parents who always played Dylan so can pretty much recite Blood on the Tracks back to front. Love me some Dylan...can't believe he's still going and I'll finally get to see him! We've got row 6 seats so I'll have a great view.
