I have been sick for days now, but not from an illness, but from a horrific video I stumbled upon while searching for Racoon Dog enclosure inspiration. It was from a fur farm in china and it left me horrified for days. I will spare you the details, but I cannot sleep very well since, it is all I think about. This was the worst case of animal cruelty I have ever seen and I have seen alot.

Did that ever happened to you? How did you overcome it? Just the thought that it is happening in China to this day leaves me with very dark thoughts. And yes, fur farms still exist everywhere, but in some places, like China it is just so much worse, because there are no animal welfare laws.
Praying for you.. 😭
It's not nearly as bad as what you saw but some of the stories customers tell me I can't shake either... Some people are so lonely and/or hopeless they want to talk to anyone that will listen.
...if it makes you feel better I have seen horrific videos and headlines that are too haunting. I try to compartmentalize it, I guess. It makes me depressed that people could be so mean to animals, children or even the elderly. I wish I had advice but I don't. I could just tell you that you're not alone. To be a decent person is to feel empathy that causes you pain at some point. Do you have any loved ones you could talk a bit to??? Like you said, spare them the details.

I know I asked something kinda similar in the past but I want to get a new PSNO dinosaur, I have my eye on the Hadrosaurs specifically, so my question to you guys is what are the best PSNO figures in your opinion I would love your favorite Hadrosaur figure and/or general Dinosaur figures, thanks.
Im not really well versed in the dinosaur figure world (yeah kinda ironic for me), but pnso really seems to strive for that sweet, sweet scientific accuracy. And as far as i can tell that do a really great job at it. Probably my only complaint is that some of them are a little on the skinny/shrinkwrapped side and could use some more meat on them.
My favorite from the hadrosaur models is probably the edmontosaurus because its nice and beefy and due to the dakota "mummy" they could include alot of fun details, like the fingers being encased in a fleshy pseudo hoof.
My overall favorites are probably the therizino and the new spinosaurus, just because those are among my favorite dinos

Yeah the edmontosaurus looks great, personally I was going to get the haolongood edmontosaurus, but I definitely plan on getting their spinosaurus soon, and as for Hadrosaur I am debating between the iguanodon and the lambeosaurus, anyway thanks

I have a couple of PNSO dinosaurs but no Hadrosaurs sadly. I have their Borealopelta, Pachycephalosaurus, Styracosaurus, and Stegosaurus from their Deluxe line. My favorites from those 4 are Borealopelta and Pachycephalosaurus, they are amazingly sculpted with lots of details and subtle, not exaggerated texture, and have decent paintwork. Compared to the promotional photo, I can't really recommend Stegosaurus because of quite a disappointing level of paintwork. Styracosaurus is pretty fine.
I always wanted their Parasaurolophus but it's out of my price range. A friend of mine has this model and I can confirm it looks stunning and has a nice size too.
I guess for more information and real-life photos you can check Dinosaur Toy Blog reviews.

My favorite PNSO from my little collection is this Pachycephalosaurus :giggle:

I have seen cases of children doing horrendous things to animals, tortuing and killing kittens and puppies because of boredom or just because they can. unfortunately, if compassion is not nurtured in them, they can be just as cruel as adults. We are truly a horrible species with egos bigger than ourselves and a superiority complex.

I already feel better though, thanks to this community. Thank you for your thoughts. 🙂

Yeah whenever I think about we humans are cursed with intelligence, we have done so much damage.

Honestly I to am glad to have this community and I am glad something as silly as a Zoo Video Game Forum to do so much for its community 😄.

Anyway I hope you can get pass all that and have a wonderful life 👍.

Now I’m admittedly worried they may rush PZ2.

I'd be lying if I said this thought didn't cross my mind. PC2 absolutely feels rushed, and riddled with problems.

I don't want to dwell too much on this heavy topic, and I hope you're okay with me bringing it up (as it's been a week since this was debated), but I just wanted to share my experience.

To put it simply, I know exactly how you feel. More than 10 years ago I saw a similar clip, the most horrendous animal abuse I've ever witnessed, and it has not left me to this day. It is imprinted in my brain. It is terrible in every way possible. While saying that, I feel it's important we know these things happen (albeit, I could live without seeing that clip) so we can be concious about it. It's horrible, I know, but sadly the world can be a cruel place, and turning a blind eye is making it worse.

I think it's important we try to focus on the good while still being aware of the world around us. You, me and everyone else in this thread, we're not going to stop these farms from exsisiting, but we can be mindful, and learn and perhaps even fight it in our own little possible ways (for example not buying fur clothing). This is not to say that everyone has to be a champion for a good cause. We all do (or don't) what we can within our capabilities.

I hope you are better.

Me. Technically. In the moments were I feel good enough to battle the UI and deal with it. But it IS a constant test of patience and if they don't change it A LOT back to what it was (less clicking) with PZ2, I will not have nearly as fun in the game.

I'll be honest, when I watched all the YouTubers I thought it can't be that bad. Baha. Oh yes... it can be...
They are listening though (they don't have a chance at this point, to be fair) and improving the UI with Update 1. We'll see how that goes.

And I find the colors way too saturated and indeed think all plants look better in PZ. It's okay for me for a theme park game, because theme parks are artificial, but in my future zoo game, I'd love to see an improvement here as well, honestly.

The UI does look abysmal. It is very clear that it is made for a console, and the PC players suffer from it. I think it's inexcusable, especially as the UI is so important. If you want your game to release on PC and consoles at the same time, then you better make sure it's done in a proper way. For example, a game that did this flawlessly is Baldur's Gate 3. I play it on my PC, but have also tried with my Xbox controller on PC, and it's beautifully made. The UI for KB+M is totally diffrent from the controller one, as it should be, and that's why it works properly, and the game is no less amazing if you play with a controller.

Honestly, I really appreciated the way Deladysigner and Rudi pointed out all the flaws. Delady even made almost an hour video about all the things wrong. I appreciate that especially from such a big creator as herself. If you look at her channel, there's only one PC2 post release building video. She's also working on another mini franchise zoo. Her channel is mostly known for her Planet games videos. And she has only one video of PC2 actually trying to build something. That says something. I can see she is totally disappointed with the game (as are many other players).

I hope the experience improves over time, but players shouldn't be met with such troubles in a game that is suppose to be full release. Tbh, I don't know how they can improve the UI without completely redesinging it (then again, I know nothing about UI designing so I could be completely wrong). I just don't understand why didn't they keep the UI from PZ (or PC1) for PC.

They don't seem to be rushing PZ2. If anything they are delaying it since we keep getting new DLCs announced for PZ and i suspect we might get another one after the one we are getting next year, since 20 DLCs have a better ring to it than 19 haha so they keep investing resources into expanding the animal roster of PZ 1. If they have a sequel planned i don't see it releasing any time soon, probably a 2-3 years period at the very least once we stop getting DLCs for version 1.

I think the main selling point for our sequel will be aquariums and aviaries so they are in no rush to release the sequel. Those system will probably take a lot of work to develop and in the mean time they can keep milking the og PZ throwing more habitat animals (aka carnivores and ungulates) that they know will keep buying lol

I am okay with the topic, I processed it somehow now, although like you said, I do not think I will ever get rid of those images in my brain and thoughts. You have a good point, we all know it is happening and it is worse in some parts of the world than the other, but until we are exposed to truly see these hideous things, we do not really realize how bad it really is. So maybe it is for something good that I have seen it, not that I buy things with real fur, but it certainly made me more aware of the issue.

Thank you for your kind words, I appreciate it.

Here’s a bit of some Vet School fun (maybe not so fun) facts for you guys:

Let’s say a client brings in a two birds, one is a chicken and the other is a great horned owl. Let’s say both animals have broken their right foot, and both feet must be amputated.

For the chicken the foot can be amputated and the bird released back to the owner.

For the owl, humane euthanasia is recommended. As it’s pretty much recommended all birds be in a releasable state. Obviously one of the issues being it’s not very easy to find “owl rescues”. I imagine some zoos may be able to take in certain cases, but on a state and Federal level there is a lot of guidelines and red tape for wild animals.

Aw. That sucks. I guess it helps keep wildlife crime down though by avoiding a loophole where a wild animal, such an owl, cannot be taken from the wild and maimed so that it can be sold or kept as a 'rescue'. I am not in favour of keeping wild animals as pets but it seems such a shame to lose a life when it could be rescued....then again it could live a life of torture even if the 'rescuer' had good intentions.

Sorry this is a word salad, got a bad cold atm (poss covid but not testing, just snuggling under my heated blanket!)

So glad you're feeling better 💙 I know that was heavy.

Honestly f fur and anyone who thinks its cute to wear. Faux fur is plenny good.

Yeah it does suck, same with a lot of guide lines about wild animals. Sadly, they suck with a purpose. Obviously with wild animals you want to be able to rehabilitate them back into the wild. So you have to have guidelines for that. Unlike, say a cat, there isn’t a ton of people just dying to get a pet owl. Also they are far less qualified for an owl than a cat.

Working with wildlife can be vary rewarding, it’s also very depressing. One of our Locums was talking about saving wild birds, and he said maybe around 30-40% of the animals brought in can be saved. Of those 30-40%, maybe around 70-80% actually survive to be released. Obviously I am paraphrasing a conversation from a week ago.

Despite that, I would love to work with wildlife rehabbers if I can! Though my primary goal is to work with pets.

Too true.

A major concern I have these days is the amount of content online about wild animals that are being kept as pets. Probably like most of you, I click on so many animal videos so the algorithm constantly feeds them to me and some of them are more dubious than others, right? There seem to be an awful lot of otter 'sanctuaries' in Japan for some reason. Some you can look up and find they are legit rescue / rehab places or have a backstory that justifies the animal being kept, like Juniper fox or Crystal the raccoon for example. But a lot of the time it's unclear why the animal is in a domestic environment and - more often than not - I suspect its not in the animal's best interests. There are lots of copycat Junipers.

Okay...there are bigger problems in the world than this right now obviously...but its still a problem that's only going to increase as there is profit to be made from online content. It especially troubles me when the animals are in clothing or look really derpy for some reason...I've heard of horrible techniques like drugging or gluing animals into certain poses to get a funny video for Tiktok. Churning out these videos has become an industry in some places. This then drives illegal poaching to get more wild animals as demand for them as pets (or props) increases.

I mean, my life will never feel entirely complete without a resident raccoon, fox and owl in my home, but in order to satisfy these desires I'm gonna have to move to a forest, live in a cabin and bond with my neighbours. It shouldn't be done any other way. Basically my retirement plan is to become an isolated witch of the wilderness...yup actually... I'm down with that: got my crystals and my book of shadows at the ready...this digressed somewhat. Winter brings out my spooky side and the world right now makes me want to run away to a more innocent kind of wilderness.

Honestly i think you should have some kind of proof of expertise for every pet, not only exotic ones (although what is and isnt an exotic pet is pretty blurry imo) but also your "standard" ones.
People getting some animal that they really shouldnt is a big problem, but atleast in my expirience ive seen like 2 horribly kept hamster or rabbit for every horribly kept exotic

Welcome to one of the biggest issues facing Vetmed right now. The amount of people who don’t even put research into dog breeds, or own animals without any financial stability, is very high. That’s not even taking into account the amount of people who buy pet store animals without an inch of research being done.

Here in the US it is a contentious issue, as it ends upcoming down to is someone’s rights to own an animal superseded by their financial status. I would personally argue YES, DUH, IF YOU CANT TAKE CARE OF AN ANIMAL DONT OWN ONE. But I can’t really say that to clients :)

Honestly I get more annoyed with the amount of people who will see a privately owned animal and find it cute, and then turn around and hate Zoos/ Aquariums.

Like the dodo would make an article about how well an owner “cares for a fennec fox” and then make some article crap talking zoos later.
