Look inside that small thing in the roof.

Anyone here ever head of Paranthropus? It was the last autralopithecine and died out in the middle of the Pleistocene, but we're not certain as to why. Best guess is competition with Homo species, but imagine if this animal had persisted. It belongs to the same taxonomic tribe as humans (Homonini) so it would raise some serious questions about animals and "personhood".
Sure did. Human evolution is a fascinating topic!

The Fall of the last non sapien hominidis is very interesting imo, especally as atleast for the last 2 its so different.

Afaik the current leading theorys for homo florensis and the neanderthals are that florensis as an island endemic has coexistet with other species of the genus homo on their Island for atleadt a short time before they went extinct due to a vulcano Eruption and the neanderthals never really went extinct at all, as recent Gen studies came to the conclusion thst a significant populstion of them must have assimilated and produced offspring with homo sapiens, so its less that they really went extinct completly but that they still live on through homo sapiens.

@StellarLover may I ask - where are you from? You have an intriguing writing style! Seeing all these different species of whale must have taken you a long time. Do you work with marine life?
I've been living in the UK for the past two years, and went to Oxford to study, which made me love this country, but I was born and raised at Spain! As for the last question, I really don't work specifically with marine life (I don't know why but I normally don't like to go diving and only will if there's a rare animal in between :ROFLMAO: ), more so with mammals in general.

Time to talk about Madagascar! Obviously this island is a great place for any lover for primates, but it also has a lot of tenrecs, and there's tons. I never thought that they were so diverse up until my visit to Madagascar in 2019. I'm also surprises with the malagasy carivores! They're preaty fun to watch and I will forever remember two Ring-tailed Vontsira cubs playing with each other! I't was a very cute moment. But we can talk of this island without mentioning lemurs! I've seen a lot of lemurs, and some encounters are were great! From seeing aye-ayes and mouse lemurs at night, to seeing groups of sifakas and indris leap from tree to tree in a coordinated way. It's truly mesmerizing. Here's a photo of an indri:

Man I love Madagascar. Hey did y'all know schleich is making a indri figure next year, and it doesn't look like absolute trash (unlike their god awful 2023 Mandrill).

Madagascar is awesome. In fact, I am building a zoo set in Madagascar at the moment. Was quite inspired by the Sifaka and I also have not used the Fossa yet, so it fits in.

Wish we got some more foliage from there, mainly the Travellers tree, that would be rad. Look how cool they are.

Even if they are outdated they are probably my favorite series of paleo documentaries ever!
I really loved Apple's Prehistoric Planet. I hope they give the post-dinosaur era the same treatment.

There's the Morgan Freeman narrated Life on Our Planet which does a bit of it, but it takes a lot of liberties.

I remember giving my kids schleich figures and they enjoyed them a lot! (thb I also enjoyed the figures😆).

I'm confident that your zoo is going to look great and that it could win at the Zoolympic games! And I agree with you that sometimes the games doesn't have some unique foliage, but you still have the incredible baobabs to use at your zoo!

I agree, Travelers Tree would be so great to have! 💚
For now, we can use blueprints by Captain Callum, they are lovely :)

Prehistoric Planet is fantastic, really need to do season 2.

Outside of dinosaurs, one of my favorite time periods for paleo documentaries is the pre-Mammoth times. Mammals took so many cool and interesting evolutionary paths. I would love to see more of that.

Gosh, it's hard (and disturbing) to imagine the different possible alternative histories had they not died out. No doubt humans would have found terrible ways to exploit them. Would they have made the theory of evolution take prominence earlier? Would they have kept us in the dark ages of colonnial exploitation for longer? No doubt there would have been more of this kind of awful thing - https://www.cam.ac.uk/research/news/skulls-in-print-scientific-racism-in-the-transatlantic-world

If they were to exist the world as we know it today, would they have more rights than other animals, and would these rights then be extended to our other great ape cousins? How does that even work...reading a little about them I don't see these guys having bank accounts. What rights are possible for them? I was asking myself this when I visited the gorillas at London Zoo last month. It seems demeaning and humiliating to keep such a species behind glass. But what else is left on this planet for them? Their natural home is not safe anymore.

I wonder what communication with Paranthropus would be like, given the scope and limitations of communicating via signs and symbols with bonobos etc. And of course I have to ask you @NZFanatic , what would their modern common name be? Would it come from us or would they be able to name themselves?

Man there's something about those schleich Figures, I mean I think collecta makes better animal Figures but I just love the schleich animals (the dinosaurs are not great, I mean just look at there Moros Intrepidous), I remember getting my first ones when I was real little, and I still collect them today, though not nearly as often.
