Just saw the WWD trailer. I have to say i love the designs of the animals, a much needed up to date revamp... But... The CGI is so evident that took me out of it a bit. Like, Prehistoric Planet really was the peak in dinosaur CGI and not even the BBC seem to be able to get up to that standard.

That said I'm so excited about this series. The Best part about WWD was how immersive the stories were. The story telling is where this show shine brighter so i hope they keep that spirit for this remake (sequel?).

The animals look accurate, thought the selection of species feels a bit tiresome. I wish dinosaur documentary devs wouldn't felt the pressure to include t rex and trike in every single project. But i'm this case the old WWD t rex was atrocious so it needed a chance to be reedemed lol
Yeah, feels like youre obliged to include them to even get the funding to start working on the show.

Jurassic Park was a blessing at a curse for them at the same time.
Before JP they were these lumbering, stupid godzilla monster, waiting for mammals to show up and replace them in the public conciousness, so that help with making these animals being thought of as active and inteligent creature.
But JP had such a big impact that now the public is stuck with its portrail as the dinosaurs for like 30 years 😂
Yeah. And there's been some progress, like feathered dinos making an appearance. Also, despite the backlash against Dominion, I will say that the dinos seemed more animal-like than the movie monsters we saw in the I-rex and I-raptor...
Have y'all seen Chaos Theory? Loving it so far

And double post, but who cares.
I'm trying to figure out how to turn my book into a manuscript. See, I wrote it on Google Docs because it was the easiest for me to access (I had an app, but they kept messing up)
So, now I'm just trying to convert it to a manuscript and publish it somewhere, maybe Amazon (unless y'all know other places)
I actually have the novel cover ready to go

If y'all ever come to Houston, let somebody else drive. People drive like Nascar here. I'm not the Nest driver, but do y'all know how many times I've almost been hit because other people are bad drivers? I've been seeing cars swerve lately and hitting curbs; they're usually on their phone
I feel that. The roads surrounding the airport was crowded when we flew in over a year ago. Good thing we got an uber driver.

Despite working in publishing I know next to nothing about self-publishing. I would just do a lot of internet research. ChatGPT can actually be kind of helpful for this kind of thing.

Whatever happens with it it is a massive achievement to finish a book. Congratulations!

There is a novel I would like to write about women's health as a central theme, as I have had some extreme experiences that have left me with a degree of PTSD. I keep mulling it over but haven't started it yet. I know I should start by developing good writing habits, but its a little tricky as a bonafide night owl as I can't keep up the morning pages thing.

What writing habits or routines did you use to write this? Any advice for a would-be novelist?

Its going to be like The Ballad of Big Al.
Think about it as new part of the franchiese rather than sequel.

Don't get distracted😅
It took me forever because I kept getting distracted at some points. Also, my brother helped me to polish it up, so maybe as you write each chapter, have somebody read it over and give some pointers.
And them, share it with a few friends or family to give feedback

Honestly I don’t care if the CGI in the new WWD isn’t as good as the CGI in Prehistoric Planet. That’s a hard enough task all on its own! Personally I would just hope the writing and storytelling is just as good as I remember.

The episode with the old Ornithocheirus still gets me emotional.

THERE GOES MY HERO, WATCH HIM AS HE GOES!!!!!!!!!! 😭

Unrelated, but CGI in general is always tricky. The animators need to use special tricks, like lighting, to hide the "fakeness"
I feel like there are times it's good, like several Marvel movies or even newer Star Trek/Wars, but then you have some times where you're like:

This was my favourite dinosaur from the first WWD when I was a kid. I remember loving it so much bc it was small, herbivorous and sociable, like me, and the females were dominant! Her name sounded comically like mine too - Leaellynasaura (I am elle/elly to my friends).

Anyway I can't believe how variously it is represented. Do we know which of these depictations is most likely to be accurate? The first image is the WWD one which I assume is the most out of date? Some of them have such cute fluffy stripy tails, I hope she was like that!

These guys live near the antarctic circle back then, although it was warmer overall.
So i think its most reasonable to picture them with thick fluff. There is the fun theory that since they had a proportional super long tail that they would wrap that around themselves like a fluffy scarf to keep warm, no way to know for sure but that would be hecking cute.

iirc they were named after the scientists daughter, hence the female form of saurus

You have them in Prehistoric Kingdom if you want to make a flock and play with them ☺️ they are pretty cute there as well... I don't remember if they have baby forms now as well... Some dinos still don't.

If I'm not mistaken, they still had longer nights, so they likely had to be adapted to a nocturnal life, correct?

There's a really wonderful book out there (perhaps you've heard of it?) called All Yesterdays, which basically aims to illustrate a ton of dinosaurs with weird, out-there features that are still somewhat plausible... and Leaellynasaura gets one of the most adorable and strange reconstructions imo!

The idea is that the 'flag' at the tip of its tail helps them keep track of each other and can serve as an alarm when predators get close. I just love how much of a little puffball they drew it as...

Oh. My. Gosh.
I'm dead.

Gotta get this book, I love illustration.

Battery life on PS5 remotes sure does degrade quickly. I’m barely getting 4-5 hours on a charge now. Used to last for 12+. I don’t want to have it replace these things. They’re not cheap and it’s not very eco-friendly.
