Ships Silent Running questions.

Hi guys im still pretty new to ED and i noticed a bunch of older videos on youtube of people running shieldless silent running stealth builds and im pretty interested in it.
Which ships work for this kind of build and is it still a legit type of build? i know that the DBS and DBE are cold running ships but ive messed around with builds with them and its hard to get any kind of build with a decent amount of cargo space for pirating.

It all depends on how serious you are about it. The silent running is only really useful for short-term use. Sneaking into the stations, collecting cargo under the security's noses, hiding behind asteroids, etc.
But running a shieldless build is expensive. More than you'll ever be able to cover by piracy, imho.

Diamondbacks are the first choice, obviously, but with a bit of engineering, almost any ship can be turned into a cold one, now. Cobras are nice for this. FAS or Clipper are also good at this, if you need something bigger. But it all boils back down to how much you're willing to pay for repairs and stuff.
Stealth builds don't really work against NPCs. At least not at close ranges. You would have to mix it up with long range weapons and keep your distance if you wanted to make the combat work, but that's not really ideal for piracy.

Personally I only run silent builds for fun. (And they are A LOT of fun) But I never managed to make them a viable income producers.

Rule of thumb is you need something that runs fairly cool and has a decent base line of armour to work with, Diamond backs are a go too
