Silent Running

Not necessarily. Silent running reduces the ship's heat signature so makes it harder to pick up on the scanner. However, even NPCs have eyes (apparently :) ), and if you are close enough to them, they can lock onto you manually and start to scan you.

Engaging silent running (or dropping a heat sink) will typically break a scan, but again, you can generally still be manually targeted again even then.

Just the usual player hostile mechanics. Not worth reporting but the prison thing and the waste of time. Feels like they want me to quit :(

I feel like you want you to quit. You’ve been whining about everything up and down the forums since the first Chapter 4 announcements.

Every game is “player hostile” in that challenges are presented for the player to solve.

Well, once you get used to it, then it's a known thing, and sort of makes sense, as we can also target a ship manually even if it's running cold (lots of NPCs drop heat sinks these days to break a target lock).

Unfortunately, silent running could be a much more interesting mechanic, but it just isn't really. If you're trying to sneak into a station, speed is the best method. Even if a scan is started on you, once you get in through the slot, line of sight breaks the scan... :)

Yes but putting me somewhere i cant get back from without changing my build is not needed. If i can teleport there then why cant i teleport back? Cause its only reason to be there is to screw with the player. So instead of doing what i was trying to do before now im messing about looking for bits. Totally unnecessary. See i feel like it was scripted to catch me even tho i was silent.

It's part of the game dude, and a good addition I reckon, I laughed when I got snagged and shipped off to a detention centre and enjoyed the interruption to what I was doing ... made it all feel a bit more real, consequences matter.

What are you talking about? Silent running has very definite mechanics. Even if you are in SR, if you're running too hot you show up on scanners.

Fly a colder ship if you don't like it.

perhaps you should consider eventualities before getting sent to prison.

I'm was under the impression there was a minimum distance at which silent running is no longer working regardless of the ship's temp.
100m was it? not sure...

Edit:

Actually...

Something like that, yeah. There is a diagram of it somewhere. Damned if I know where though.
