Silly Ships 2: So Long and Thanks for all the Fish

The Silly Ships expedition was a good bit of fun, and its time to start thinking about the second installment.

This time its not going to be the ships so much that are silly, but the theme.

I'd been thinking about a Beluga only expedition, but might as well give a bit of choice, and with 2.3 and the Dolphin coming, and the range increase on the Orca, i think its time to have a Cetacean themed expedition.

With the Vogons... erm... i mean Thargoids coming closer, the Dolphins and their kin have secretly approached certain CMDRs with a job. Get them off the Earth and to a new safe location before the earth is destroyed. The Mice have also said they are interested in tagging along.

When?: 27th May (a couple of days after international towel day)
Starting from?: Depending on who signs up either Sol, around Earth, or if we have people without access, a nearby system.
Going to?: Not sure at the moment, somewhere far from humanity. I'm thinking towards the end of the Orion Spur.
Duration?: Probably will be longer than Silly Ships 1 and will have waypoints, perhaps allow for up to a month to get to the destination.
Mission?: To scout for suitable earthlikes and water worlds for the Dolphins and their kin to live on.
Ships allowed?: Dolphin, Orca, Beluga only.
Specific ship configurations?: Up to you, but you might want to add a passenger cabin or cargo space to represent where the Cetaceans will be kept during the journey (keep in mind, a single Orca can weigh up to 5t!!!!).

WAYPOINTS

Here are the waypoints i've selected. No idea what the systems are like, i've not gone there and seen them. Mainly selected big stars. I urge people not to run ahead now they are posted and tag systems, let's play fair. Still over a month to go before we launch.

WPNameDateDistance From SolComments
1BD-17 314028/051329Ghost of Jupiter, planetary nebula, fly away from the star to get a nice view
OptionalPlio Eurl UN-K c8-230/05 (optional)Approx 1900Tag a planet for those who missed Silly Ships 1 - please post in thread which you take and only take 1!!!
2HD 7918631/054660Supergiant with NS parter
3WREGEIA RD-T E3-2 807904/068079Regular Blue star with a couple of other blues nearby
4PRIA EURK JW-W E1-008/0612256Normal Blue
5THROOFEIA KF-L D9-212/0616537Neutron Star

Stars are already thinning about by the time we get to WP5. We might need to backtrack to find a suitable system for our friends. Its probably quite possible we could travel a lot further, but this is far enough. No need to get to the point we need jumponium. Remember, this is a survey and deployment mission.

Regarding meet up dates: Of course, people are free to meet up at any time, and as none of the systems have been scanned by my, the people who get there frist will need to scout around to select suitable planets (or even systems) to meet at. Post meet up locations selected on Discord and forums

Regarding communications, chat chat and discussions will be carried out on Discord, with all pertinent info (such as meeting locations) copied to the forums

I might join for this, if I can only convince my Orca ("Dillinger" - it does a fair impression of a Lamborghini Countach) to jump a little further.

I like the idea of a Dolphin / Orca / Beluga only expedition. The Passenger Ship Trip!

One idea for a rally point and route waypoints would be to meet at a system with a tourist beacon, say 1-2K out from the bubble. Since we are all in passenger ships why not meet where the passenger ships fly to? Then, we could possibly plot a route around the bubble hitting some other scenic tourist beacon systems. Each rally point at each waypoint could be the beacons themselves! Might make for a unique yet interesting flight plan.

Any cargo modules made with transparent aluminum? :D

Love the theme! Looking forward to it.

If I can manage to outfit my Beluga named 'Constellation" properly (which costs a fortune), I'll join.
It would be nice if there would be "take me anywhere" tourists... or all of us could take the same mission/destination.

When?: TBD - approx 1 month after 2.3 drops to allow time for people to engineer up Dolphins or adjust existing Orcas. Beluga apparently will be unchanged (EDIT: Beluga getting a small mass decrease, therefore a corresponding jump range increase).

Sign up sheet and other info will be added after 2.3 drops, but feel free to make your own suggestions for the expedition.

you must bring fish... lots and lots of fish.... find a blue nebula and jettison them all into space, then swim amongst the fish canisters as nature intended

Not a bad idea, although that region has been fairly well visited I think. The nebula itself was scanned about 1 month after launch, or possibly even earlier.

I was going with the nautical theme and it was the only nebula I could think of. If this is really going to kick off, I might tag along. Have to see the dates of launch and how much time I can commit to this.

Is this like that Star Trek movie where they beam up whales and goto the future? "We have whales Captain!"

Kind of. Also, the Enterprise-D was supposed to have dolphins and a small whale species on board, as navigational specialists. It's mentioned sometimes, but never seen. (Yeah, I have the blueprints, no, I was not a lonely teenager ... )

Anyway, I'd like to sign up, but work might interfere, so I don't know if I can make it ...
