Simple Guide for Unlocking all of the Guardian Tech

This will make my life so much easier, maybe I'll finally try to tackle the guardian grind

I appreciate it CMDR o7

Really the only real grind I've found is just getting out to the sites. You can blaze through the sites pretty quickly running solo. We had about 5 of us running through the module site the other night and we were popping out blueprints about every 5 minutes including logging out/in [haha]

As far as guardians and thatgoids are concerned we ate an alien race, hence our tech is alien tech....

I haven't seen any Thargoids using multicannons and beam lasers yet :) My point being, it doesn't seem that unreasonable to need special equipment to defeat an enemy with wholly different technology.

Just to add my little spin on it all...

Thanks a ton for your tips! I gathered the BP's and mats (they weren't to hard to get) at the OP site, then headed over to COL 173 to get the data. Man.... that was MUCH easier! I think it only took about 8 relogs to get the ones that I needed.

Rep +1

Thought id make a quick and dirty tutorial for unlocking the Guardian Tech

#Maps used were created by Cannon ( I just added the Green dots to more easily show where the pylons are )

# Thanks for the proofreaders Mayan Fury and DuckFather, i have corrected the system names and Reped+ (my dyslexia makes me blind sometimes)

First of all here's a quick rundown of the mats you need to unlock everything:

Guardian Components:

The two systems i used to get the blueprints are pretty close too each other:

SYNUEFE NL-N C23-4 Planet B3- For Module Blueprints
SYNUEFE EU-Q C21-10 Planet A3 - For Weapon Blueprints

Before you head out
Before you go running off to these locations here's a quick checklist:

  • Are you in a small or medium ship ? (so you can park as close to the Guardian sites as possible)
  • Do you have at least 1 SRV onboard ? (the more the better i would say minimum of 2)
  • Do you have loads of Sulphur and Phosphorus (at least 150 of each) ? - You need these for refueling and rearming your SRV.
  • Do you have Point Defence Turrets mounted on the utility mounts ON TOP of your ship? (these will help with the missiles that the Guardian Sentinels launch)

Plot a course to one of the guardian sites, whatever you prefer first.

When you get there try to land as close to the sites as possible, but not too close to any of the pylons, as you wont be able to fire your turret if the ship is too close.

Collect Ancient Artefacts
(only needed if you want the extra data for the Ram Tah Missions )
First Find 2 of each of these: (you will have to relog after collecting 1 of each)
Ancient Tablet, Urn, Casket, Orb and totem, Store these in your ship (these are required for scanning the obelisks on the site).

Collect Ancient Relics
Next Find the Ancient Relics on top of the large columns (they will raise from the ground when you get near them) You will need these to release the ORB with the Blueprints when you have shot all the pylons.

Start The Puzzle
Once you have those find the where the Ball will be dispensed from and drive in front of it (if you don't do this step the pylons wont come out of the ground when you are close to them)

Find The Pylons
Drive around the site and find the pylons, so you can get a better idea of the layout (dont shoot them yet just get used to where they are, they will look like small raised triangles sticking out of the ground, you will hear them rise when you get close and they turn into pillars with an opening with a bright light inside)

Kill the Sentinels
When the Pillars rise 1 or 2 Guardian Sentinels will spawn.

The sentinels are easy to kill just make sure you have 3 pips in weapons and 3 pips in shields.
When taking on the sentinels be on a flat part of the ground and hold the handbrake, otherwise there attacks will send your SRV rolling all over the place).
After killing the Sentinels Scoop up the bits they drop.

Activate The Pylons
Now go and shoot the glowing bits in the Pylons to charge them, a timer will start, each time you shoot a pylon the timer will increase giving you more time.

Scan the Obelisks

Near to the pylons are the obelisks, scan these with the data scanner and you will get the Alpha Beta Delta Epsilon and Gamma Pattern Data.

Get The Blueprint
When all the pylons are charged go to the front of the orb dispenser (where you activated the puzzle) jettison an Ancient Relic on the panel on the floor in front of it, More Sentinels will spawn and a glowing Orb will appear Scan this for your blueprint.
Relog and repeat till you have all the blueprints you need.

Head to the second site and repeat

Fly back to the bubble and acquire all the non guardian materials

The reinforced Mounting plates seem only to be available at places with no large pads, so be in a medium ship and get these first.

Acquire the mission only materials next so your not flying a ship with a cargo full of goodies.

Head to a Guardian Tech Broker (use Inara.cz to find).

Unlock all your lovely new toys

It took me about 12 hrs gameplay to get all the materials and blueprints from the Guardian sites and another 2-3 hours to collect all the other materials.

Fly safe Commanders.

Huge thanks for putting this together - actually encouraged me to head out there and git-r-done!

Great guide, but ARGH my OCD is triggered...

That's like writing 1,2,4,5 and 3, or A, B, D, E, C. Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta, Epsilon is Greek alphabetical order ;)

It's ok... I'll get over it.... one day.... :'(

I fixed it, I honestly didn't know that was the correct order, I just assumed the Greek alphabet was same order as English.

I learn something new everyday :)

Fun fact: if you order the types by the Greek alphabet then the English subject names come out correctly ordered in the Roman alphabet:

α biology
β culture
γ history
δ language
ε technology

That's kinda cool

I finally went to the Guardian Structure to grind for the FSD Booster, the only tech I'm currently interested in. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. My main complaints are:

1) These sites are designed with space legs in mind, not SRVs. I do not enjoy getting stuck and having to 'climb stairs' while driving.
2) RNG of material drops made it take longer than it should. I got way more of one required material vs. another...

That's really my only complaint. I would ask OP to let people know that scanning the Obelisks is optional. I wasted a lot of time doing that unnecessary step. Otherwise, I very much appreciated the howto guide!

What are the requirements for the FSD booster?

Most Guardian doodads do require obelisk scans.
If the FSD booster doesn't and you decided to scan them anyway, that's kind of on you. :p

Yeah the surface mesh on all those Guardian worlds is horrible and not in any way fun gameplay.

To be fair, the Guardian sites are very well modeled.

They probably could have been modeled differently, with all the same detail but with a lot of the "surface scatter" being intangible so the SRV could clip through it but that would really have been a workaround, implemented as a result of the real problem.

The real problem being, of course, that the SRV is just wayyyy to picky about what it gets snagged on.
There's no way that a "dune-buggy" with big, daft, balloon tyres and long-travel suspension should get snagged on anything that isn't at least, say, 30% of the wheel's diameter.

It's a bit unfair to be critical of the folks who designed the Guardian sites, who did an awesome job, because the SRV should be better at SRVing.

Oh, I did not know that. I recant!

I'll give you that. I think the Guardian sites would be amazing to explore and interact with using space legs (especially if we get a jet pack like in NMS). Even if SRVs didn't get stuck on tiny rocks and Guardian bits, they are still a pain to maneuver in tight spaces - too many K turns and loop-arounds.

Hi :)

Thanks Dizzy for the information [up]

It's me being a bit dumb but I'm confused with this part of the walkthrough...

"Start The Puzzle
Once you have those find the where the Ball will be dispensed from and drive in front of it (if you don't do this step the pylons wont come out of the ground when you are close to them)"

How exactly do I find where the ball will be dispensed from? ...I'm at the site Synuefe NL-N C23-4 (I'm trying to get the FSD Blueprint BTW).
I can more or less activate the pylons, so I understand how you do this, but where or when will the 'Ball' appear ? :S ...what is the 'Ball' exactly?

Any help appreciated.

Jack :)

Hey there, The ball will drop from the big v shaped structure its on SYNUEFE NL-N C23-4 (the first map) its located on right half way down the map, its the opposite side on the other map (left half way down).

Once you have activated all the pylons, You need to drop the Artefact on the panel on the floor in front of the V structure then the ball will appear, scan it for the blueprint.

But what a faff!

Firstly , thanks OP and others, this will make the job a bit easier.

But frankly, what a faff and complete waste of time. By the time I've collected all that, the therapists(my spell-checkers interpretation of thargoids 😏 ) will have destroyed everything in the bubble.
Surely we could just go and buy the upgraded weapons we needed, the threat is obviously very imminent.
Has anyone tried a peace delegation. That would make more sense.
Are there good aliens?

This mechanic is just adding grind to an already grindy game and unbalancing the pvp arena to boot. Now everyone has to go and get Guardian tech weapons to compete.

Except for some issues with the gameplay mechanics, I actually enjoyed visiting the Guardian Site and getting what I need for an FSD Booster, but that's because exploration is my favorite activity, and visiting a ruin on a distant planet that rewards me with a tool that improves exploration all fit together really well.

But I totally understand why a combat pilot with little interest in exploration and material gathering would find this an unnecessary grind for a weapon. Ideally, the gameplay and reward should match. For example, I bet combat pilots would enjoy engaging in battle with a space-based Guardian "super sentinel" near the Bubble that's equipped with advanced weapons, but drops these weapons (typical MMO 'loot') when destroyed.

and unbalancing the pvp arena to boot. Now everyone has to go and get Guardian tech weapons to compete.
PvP has been unbalanced in this way for a long time. Unlocking Prismatic shields is way worse of a grind IMO than unlocking a Guardian weapon. That's why I avoid PvP in this game for the most part, which thankfully is easy to do. I prefer games like Overwatch where victory is about skill, not hours of boring grind to unlock super-weapons. But that's a topic for another thread :p

So I'm finally going to give this a bash by attemting to obtain an FSD Booster. Anyone know where a list of active sites is to be found. I find my hangover has clouded the force and my forum-fu has deserted me :(

Edit : Sigh... In the OP there are two examples.

Isnt a waste of time the point of any game?
i actually found this to be decent game play, compared to doing loops of Dav's Hope or driving around a crashed conda which litrally require zero skill.
