Simple question about VR

I only got into Elite because it had VR support back in 2016 and I am VR only. I did upgrade to EDO and to be honest can’t stand the new planet tech, the planets look the same and are flat and boring although the atmospheric lighting looks great.
I now only fly in Horizons because it has much better performance and the planets have mountains and valleys and are more interesting to explore.
I was so excited and looking forward to Odyssey but it has nothing for the VR user,….. Sadly

Gotcha. I saw some story about it on the BBC tech show last year, but tbh it just looked like people having meetings in vr. Not wanting to sound dismissive in the slightest, I just wondered if it was the same thing you were describing. Thanks mate.

Ps - any stuphz yet? ;)
No it's more than that. I've heard you can make a kind of virtual life and it includes also transactions and you can also make real money from the activities that you perform but it sounds like gambling to me.

Okay, thanks for the explanation
I think there may be some mistaken identity stuff going on here - there are indeed “metaverse” labelled games that look like they’re jumping on the buzzword bandwagon and are something like SenseiMatty’s description, but LeoBartlet had the better description earlier in the thread (and not too far away from what you saw on the BBC).

Ex-Facebook look to be going for VR with eye/face tracking so user’s avatars will be more naturalistic, and for this to be used in remote working and social experiences. There’s also talk of AR glasses extending this into the real world, so you could have virtual people sat in your boardroom for example.

One of last year’s Quest updates that introduced multiple desktop screens for the virtual environment looks to be a first step.

Sounds a bit “Ready Player One” to me, but I reckon it’ll need those style of glasses to go mainstream 😁
…though these recently announced SteamVR goggles seem like a step in that direction:

(They’re called “Shiftall” and yes, I still read that wrongly 😅)

Yeah that fits more with the gist of what I saw. Granted I wasn't giving it full attention which I guess is why I asked, but from memory you have summarised a lot of the things they were alluding to. Thanks mate for this.

Oh I forgot that.
Yesh Sony talked about that at the CES.

I also mentioned earlier EA with Star Wars Squadron, Microsoft with Flight Simulator and Valve with Half Life Alyx but my comment disappeared..
All single title releases, nothing further being talked about in VR from any of them, to date...

It is as if there isn't a big enough market to spend the money on...

And, you are of course aware that Half-Life: Alyx was written to accompany the release of Valve's own VR hardware (and is VR only)... The other titles you mention, VR is an option, very much like ED, rather than sole mode.

How many people in this forum are waiting for a full VR implementation to buy Odyssey?
I'm mostly grateful that FD implemented VR in Odyssey when originally it was going to be dropped completely. I greatly appreciate FD for listening to us on that.
So no I'm not waiting for a full VR implementation, I'm just happy to have anything at all.

What I am waiting for to buy Odyssey for my alt (LEP on main) is a substantial increase to performance as despite having a 6800XT I cannot get stable frames in VR even at half rate without lowering the visual quality below what I personally find acceptable (near terrain morphing and aliasing being the 2 main culprits)
They've definitely made progress on that since launch but it's not nearly enough yet for me.

edit:clarifying that I'm talking about VR frame rates

Musing out loud here but since when has communist despots been an acceptable forum avatar?
Read some history first, then visit Viet Nam and ask the people and see what they would think of your comment. Anyway that's another topic for a different thread.

Back on topic, if you have ever play ED in VR you will understand the disappointed that on foot EDO is, the grey burka vision 2D is just horrible.

Visit a country with no freedom of press or expression what they think of their communist leaders and the history of the regime.

Sure.
