Simple question about VR

I have an Index.
Nothing disappointing about it at all... Even the 'cinema screen' is tolerable if ALL a player intends is to scan vegetation after getting from the SRV, or similar.
I don't think it would be tremendous fun in a High on-foot CZ, but then, I wouldn't choose to do so in VR anyway.

I do enjoy the sniping by the 'old folk' here, even better than in the game!

Yes, that grey burka looks horrible..

I'm seriously thinking about picking up an Index, playing on foot like that would be disappointing..
Yes it sure is horrible, it just such a shame as the rest of ED in VR is breathtaking.

It like going out to a fine restaurant and the starter & first course (ED) was delicious then comes the dessert (EDO on foot in VR) you are wait for the pièce de résistance, but you just get a pile of :poop:.

How many people in this forum are waiting for a full VR implementation to buy Odyssey?

You might be waiting a while. "Not at launch" wasn't it? We all know what that means by now (see also PSVR in 2017).

As others have alluded to, the main draw for VR on foot game play isn't the FPS element for me, but exploration - and for that Horizons does a better job. I can't see that changing any time soon.

...in 2018:

"What will it be, Sir?"
"I'll have the Space Legs please"

....

VR is alot better now than at rollout that's for sure. But the burkha view albeit sucks, is temporary.
Needs addressing. But ain't anywhere near the top of their list

Interesting, particularly as it is the same VR implementation, but maybe you just don't like the progress in planetary technology and still bewail the loss of beige?

ETA: Although, currently in EDO, if one doesn't have some high-end hardware, VR might be less than satisfactory, but that is all centred around the lack of optimisation, isn't it?

I am waiting for VR implementation to buy EDO for my other accounts or any ARX - everytime I leave the ship/SRV it is real mess to get into VR again with the camera workaround, and anything in settlements is out. I've set up my system to play in VR, I can rearrange everything of course for flatscreen (including buying a new screen, since my current one is relatively small), but then Elite has no VR support for me anymore, instead of limited VR support, and I need to invest further money into my hardware that I am missing somewhere else.

For the moment the bigger issue is probably the EDH / EDO split - friendlist is segmented even further, and I don't want to relog all the time just to be able to play with friends - it leads to me logging into other games - unfortunately, because I still want to play Elite, and I still have fun when I get together with friends, as long as it is in ship or SRV.

I am a VR Only player and when Odyssey first came out I spent a lot of time exploring the new planet tech in search of the new plant life.
Tried the 2d flat screen and now won’t bother with it, it’s just a slap in the face for all the VR users and supporters.

Odyssey put me off to the point that I stopped playing Elite.

After a bit I started to miss the verity and looks of the Horizons planets, they have large mountains and huge valleys you can fly thru.
I started to go back and forth between Odyssey and Horizons and found that Odyssey planets started to all look the same, I was getting board and just didn’t care to explore another Odyssey planet.
I find the atmospheric lighting the best thing about the new planet tech but still not enough to overcome the mostly flat planet surface.

Exploring in Horizons is always exciting because you never know what you will find, it’s always different and Horizons performance is much better.

It's always amazing how one-eyed VR fanatics can be
If you'd ever played Odyssey on flatscreen, you'd now know how off-base your assessment is.

I don't like VR at all myself, but having tried it once on an Odyssey surface, those were my exact thoughts as well: a slap in the face to VR players.
Fortunately, in my case, it will only thicken the dust on my headset, with no further side effects...
For someone that doesn’t like VR I find it surprising that you are not only reading post’s about VR but also finding the time to comment.
VR or not I still find the Horizons planet tech more interesting.

I was a pre order and a VR player. After the delays when it finally launched I was not able to - could not be bothered - to learn all the new keybinds for legs and did not really get the relationship between what I knew and loved as ED and what I was looking at.

This November I picked it up again and have played daily ever since. Mostly I am just space trucking station to station but also I’ve done a few on foot collection missions and planet landings. Putting aside the 2D mode I find when approaching stations the planets are mostly very poorly rendered. I also find the stations are not very well shaded into the environment, they stick out too much and are often very poorly anti aliased both inside and out. Lastly the lighting in VR can be quite harsh as you exit your jump next to a star if you fly at certain angles where one lense/eye is full of the sun and the other full of the black is space the sun eye is way to bright - headache inducing bright.

That said still playing it daily, always think about switching back to horizons but I get FOMO and think that today may be the day I want to go off and look at more Odyssey stuff.

As for VR you either get it or you don’t. Those of us lucky enough be able to do it and to embrace the opportunity it provides can’t believe how lucky we are. I do get it though from the other side as a lifelong causal gamer from (binatone paddle games) ZX Spectrum 48k all the way through to today I’ve played most games systems. I remember the excitement around the wii - you actually take part in the game! Well for me that soon fell flat as all I actually wanted to do was get stoned and crash on the sofa while playing wipeout. Jumping around the room was far to energetic:)

Again, give the EDO VR on foot a try and enjoy the "feature" on the grey burka 2D vision :ROFLMAO:. Then as someone who says they play VR games you will notice in a flash, it just horrible.

This video confuses the hell out of me. I know it takes some work to make something work well in VR, but as shown, you can swtich to third person (vanity cam) and get a VR experience, so surely they could just add a "head" cam with the first person HUD added and you'd get something halfway towards what needs to be done.

I'm not certain how enjoyable it would be compared to a real VR implementation, but i feel it would be "good enough for now" level.

But they said they tried it in VR... Isn't that all of what the 'discussion' is about, VR?

I also play EDO in VR, and have not bothered loading EDH since May of last year... Funny how different people react differently to the same content, isn't it? As if we are able to make our own decisions, which must be terribly shocking to some, I confess.

Ah sorry didn't see quest 1. Thats a reasonably good headset. But l guess the hat don't fit. Do think the colours in a g2 reverb are amazing. Not sure if the Q1 replicates that?

As to VR.
It's lovely...I've got it lucky I guess. And I'm very happy with edo. Except bugs and stuff but it's getting better.
I can't play ever in pancake. Tried it can't just doesn't do justice.
I do alot of mapping and rambling about with eddi prompting me to go look or scan etc and end up with some amazing vistas

I'd say the same, but I did load EDH last week during a Buckyball Race, because if you write your bookmarks a certain way, you can select them slightly faster during a race. Once the race is over, I went right back to Odyssey.

I'm still puzzled about the whole "slap in the face to VR users" thing. We wanted to fly our ships in VR. We got that, plus we don't have to take off our headsets on foot if we don't want to. Yes, I'd like to be able to have a full roomscale VR experience on foot, but that's fairly low on my priority list. It's fairly far behind full atmospheric planets we can land on, and (other people's) ship interiors.

What I want most at the moment is more optimization, because that's still badly needed to bring performance much closer to Horizons level. I've got a beefy new computer, and it's able to handle Odyssey, but if I'd been on my old rig (as I was when my new rig's system drive died), I'd still be playing Odyssey on foot in 2D. My old computer is almost playable in VR in settlements at the lowest graphics settings. Almost.

It is pretty pig-headed of Frontier IMO. The headlook function using EDTracker or whatever still works, the 3D settings still appear in game (for that massive 3D TV market  ) but if you want the two together, no chance - get in that post box!
