Proposal Discussion -SLAVES in ED universe-

there is another thread on the topic floating about somewhere, I posted a long explanation of how freeing slaves could be a mission in itself but cant find it in that thread

Go to your profile (click on your name), then click the Statistics tab and in there "Find all posts by [you]". Handy tool, especially when participating in a lot of conversations (possibly on the same topic, leading to confusion).

I wish there was quote notification on this board. I've seen it elsewhere.

Perhaps such an act could count towards lightening one's criminal record. Obviously such an option should not be available to someone who actually bought the slaves.

Ignoring the morality for a moment, would that count as theft of someone elses goods ?
I think setting slaves free (hiring as crew maybe?) should make you more criminal in the system where they are legal and more moral outside there.

Yep, whatever happens you shouldn't be able to free them in a slaving system as that likely wouldn't end well for the slaves!

I proposed a mission in another thread (or this one - who knows by now) that came at it from that exact angle, you buy slaves in the empire, smuggle them across the boarder into the federation and avoid the cops as you are now a fugitive, get to the station specified in the mission and release the slaves and trade your fugitive rating in the federation for a clean one and get a fugitive rating in the empire for your troubles.

the main reason for the legal status change was to prevent rinse and repeat but it addresses the moral and legal issues as well

If the slaves are in your cargo hold they are "your" property, yours to do as you will with.

In previous versions of Elite for RP purposes Ive considered my sale of scooped Slaves to be tracking down a family member \ friend willing to pay market rate to free their dear ones. Unless its a competitor pirate pilot I scooped, those guys get sold to the lowest bidder!

I would support a mechanism to free slaves with or without quests etc

Slaves

can I please have somes...

I have asked this in the fiction thread of DDF, HOWEVER I think it could make a fantastic in game feature..

Can we liberate slaves? Rather than selling them off OR dumping them into orbit.. It could be good to attack a slave trader, capture his slave cargo and then fly to a nice new colony/station and liberate them... improving local population and possibly affecting the political outlook??

We could ship federal slaves from illegal systems and release them in an independent state leading in a slight bias towards federal control?

Too much??? Could we at least have types of slaves..
for example.
1. Sex Slaves - for sex industry (premium value)
2. Workers
3. Political prisoners (with different allegiances) (political values)
4. Refugees
5. Specific Slave (maybe NPC for missions, high value to release OR sell to their enemy)

Also if we return slaves to their own governing system types could there be a reward...

I like the idea of being noble and freeing up slaves.... WITH that in mind..

Can a player offer transport to a family through a mission page, fly to an pirate base and sell them into slavery..? Or have some way to enslave them losing their fee but maybe collecting slaves could be a slave trader..

Same when you attack bigger ships, rescue the escape pods, and return them home... or sell them into slavery!!

I think it could be a nice little addition.

The slaves in ED

The slave trade is in Elite. In the Empire, it is quite normal. There are also large space ships in Elite. The crew can contain up to 12 people, I believe in Frontier Elite II. You have to pay the salaries. Will you do the slave trade ? You would like to use slaves as crew members ? Which you will dispense to remunerate ... Other uses for the slaves ?

Imperial slaves are happy slaves; they have a place and they know their place!
The last thing they need is some goody-2-shoes Federal Health Inspector busy body ripping them away from their privileged Imperial post and forcing them into the 'liberation' of being a corporate drone in a mine or factory. Even worse, working for the Federal sanitary department.
Keep your pink marigolds to yourself, you rotten rascal!
:)

The old "benign slavery" argument you Imperials trot out at every opportunity. How easy it is to trip that argument up with a very simple question. Where are your benign slavers? We have seen countless examples of mistreated slaves who have fled to the safety of Alliance Worlds. Give people too much power and they will eventually abuse it.

All your great achievements, your art, your insights into the workings of nature, your stone edifices, they are marbled red with the blood of your slaves.

Theres always another slave to be had around the corner, hopefully Federation! :p

You need to stop absorbing all these Federation propaganda lies and realise slaves are treated well, some in time can gain positions of importance and trust. Their views can matter, unlike the millions of Federation lackeys told how to vote, and who end up with depressing lifes without hope, and turning to Jinx!!:D ..................watch you dont wander into Imperial space! :p

Yes your slaves are so well looked after and so contented. Is this why you fear a mutiny by your slaves?

I am just a humble miner. I wouldn't go down to your planets looking for trouble. But if I were to receive a distress signal from slaves who had commandeered an Imperial vessel and were asking for refuge, I would do everything in my power to help them.

Everything.

I work alone aboard ship, seeing as i am an Imperial agent. Even us Imperials have a sense of humour (although if a slave called Spartacus did board my ship i might be a little worried! its more likely to be psykokow dressing up again!)

NO! i fear none, again they are treated well, but a friendly warning i dont let go of my cargo so easily, no matter how your false good intentions might be!........:p
