Slow Running

Last couple of nights I'm finding it super slow to open main menu, system maps, outfitting and starport services.

Sometimes speeds things up if you trigger degub cam or go to Xbox home.

Anyone else having these issues?

Kind of, yeah. The galaxy map can take an age to open. I think the official developers' response is something like: "What's the rush?"

They've got a point.

Had the same issues last two nights. I usually just take that as a sign that ED wants me to mode switch, cuz that usually clears it up for a bit.

Is it a bug or just normal operation? Doesn't sound great and I expect this will translate onto the PS4 version. FDev fix it. :)

IMHO its a bug with the xbox version, navigating the menus became horribly slow with the last patch or so.

PC doesn't suffer the same extended delays entering basic menus like the commodities list etc - it does, however, also suffer with the intermittent start/esc menu delay in appearing.

Suspect it will be resolved in 2.3 - fingers crossed.

I'm almost certain that the galaxy map performance is directly tied to GPU power. Let me explain.

My GTX 960 runs the map miles faster than the Xbox, and my mate's GTX 1080 runs the map even faster than my card. There's a correlation here. The more powerful the GPU, the faster the map. This rule also applies to station menus.

I suspect that those of you who buy Scorpio, will enjoy a faster map.

I used to have to wait upwards of 1-2 minutes for the gal map to open, start menu to come up and station services,

after last update though nothing as bad maybe around 15 secs generally sometimes around 30 I'm assuming when the servers are busiest

The GFX analogy does not seem to work with people having such a variable time on the Xbox though does it?

Unfortunately I don't have access to every Elite Dangerous Xbox on the planet. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong. :)

No you might be 100% right, its just reading the other posts they seem to suggest its variable, ie sometimes its quicker, sometimes it slower. If it was GPU related I would expect that to be quite constant (although it would depend which part of the galaxy too I guess). Some suggest server load. I am totally curious as to where the problem lies. If its GPU as you say, they it probably wont improve with patches. :(

And with Arne saying its slower lately, then no idea.

Slow main menu, system maps, outfitting and starport services can be down to File I/O and Network.

The network traffic & load to the Servers, and there are many things which can affect this, can impact response while the game waits for the data from the Servers. A number of which are out of our control such as Network/ISP bandwidth and load - I noticed some items are slower when my family are at home streaming youtube, facebook, etc... to their phones.....

Also, the HDD in the Xbox isn't as fast as players have in their PC's, and while the game caches what it can, the first visit can be slow while everything is loaded - there have been improvements made to the File I/O in 2.3, which Beta players have noticed.

I never considered the drive speed. But it makes even more sense. My PC has a top-of-the-line HD, faster than the Xbox's, and my mate has his game on an SSD.

I play on the PC almost exclusively these days; I have found the Xbox to just be soooooooooo slow loading things like the Galaxy/System maps and the station UI. My Xbox CMDR is still in a SideWinder.

I have an external drive but it contains two 4TB 7200 RPM drives in a RAID-1 enclosure. At my network's speed and reliability it would take many weeks to redownload all my games which is why I went with the RAID.

I might consider a small SSD in an enclosure to run a single game at a time and keep the RAID for storage, might try a 250GB external drive. Of course this does mean swapping enclosures unless I also want to buy a hub.

Edit: I forgot there are 2 USB 3.0 ports on the Xbox One so no swapping! Off to buy a new SSD for my Xone
