Smaller fleet carrier options

I'd like option of having a smaller-sized fleet "carrier". Fleet frigates. Fleet escort destroyers. Smaller, fewer hangars, less to no market access or something, I dunno.

I would like the "feel" of that better, and I think it would be fun to see the added diversity of ships to the universe. Expanded upon a bit, it could add a lot of diversity and interest to CZ's, as NPC vehicles.

Smaller carriers or ships carrying ships seem to be the latest fashion in suggestions and elsewhere.

I have to say I don’t see a good reason for them.

The "baby" carrier idea has been around for a while. Less space available, as well as restrictions on services, size and number of ships that could be carried. A reduced price tag would make it more easily available to CMDRS. In some ways, the current carrier is a bit overkill imo. With reduced maintenance costs the smaller carrier would be useful.

I could get behind this idea. In another thread I've stated my opinion that I wish the last ship released this year (or next) would be a large ship with good jump range and a Small Ship hanger sufficient to house one ship plus, retain the capacity for an SLF bay. Disclaimer: I don't own a FC and most likely never will.
I could buy a FC with ease but its all the setup and continuous maintenance that does not fit my play style or available game time to make it useful. If a smaller carrier or Frigate (thinking X4 Osprey for example) had more reasonable maintenance and fueling needs, I'd be all in on getting one.
Have a great day

You can already get smaller FC in the game - just fly away from them - simples!

As a point of reference.
My FC took one gaming session to setup back when I got it which hasn't needed changing since apart from swapping the skins once. The ongoing maintenance is for most a bit of a red herring as my FC costs less than 15 million a week and I don't think you can build one to much more than double that, that level of credits is fairly trivial if you have the play style to buy an FC in the first place. I did an exploration loop to the core and am now funded for 15 years.
Tritium is more of an issue.

I would like to see more type of carriers around but the one change I would like to see the most is carrier module for refining tritium from hydrogen. I would like to use my obsolete Type-9, outfitted with best fuel scoop and fuel tanks instead of cargo racks to scoop hydrogen from star, then get back to carrier, use tritium refinery to convert hydrogen to tritium (it is hydrogen isotope after all) which would take time (can be high enough to make tritium mining more efficient) and also use part of scooped hydrogen as power source for conversion- for example 10t of hydrogen=2t of tritium.
As for other types of carriers sure... but what's the reason to introduce them when not even basic automation (shuttles, plotting course, autopilot, npc co-pilot for navigation etc.) are permitted for the fear of those function being abused by players?

Edit: type-9 not type-8

Type-8 Obsolete before it enters game for credits.
WOW.
I meant type-9. I have not used this ship long enough to forget number:).
It's obsolete in my personal fleet only. I do think it is good ship but I prefer imperial cutter over it and that is mainly due to speed advantage which is important for someone who likes to run away from forced encounter (which happens when I fail interdiction game when doing something else away from PC...)

I wouldn’t want private capital ships dropping into a CZ personally.
I agree. I think it would be cool for NPC ships, though.

Ideally (and probably not ever going to be a thing for this game, but it would be cool) it would be fun to see a more fleshed-out CZ that was a battle between two opposing fleets of capital-sized battlecruisers, frigates, and destroyers, scaled appropriately so that ships like the Corvette can be properly corvette-scaled in comparison.

That would be awesome! I love it. :)

As to your point about basic automation, I would love to see that in the game. I want to be able to have NPC crew on my multicrew ships., even if just for having another body on board and some scripted banter, although it would be great to assign them to specific jobs; put one on comms and navigation, for instance, and they'd slowly scan and resolve all signal sources and planetary bodies in the system you're in, or put one on gunner for better turret fire. Or put one as pilot and let me man the turrets. :D
