So are the Americans the Feds and the Brits the Empire?

Then again there is an earth world named "New America" in a Empire system. LOL

WHERE IS THE QUEEN!? Or maybe the Royal Family line ended a long time ago in the Elite world.

EDIT: Looks like the Empire is Asian, well then....

We have debated that concept and it was pointed out that many of the Empire Stations have an "Asian sounding" dispatcher you can hear when entering. So some have said that it has a more North Korean feel. ;p

I guess its how you look at it.

Empire appear oriental to me. The female voice announcer in the station has a Japanese accent and is very deferential, as you might expect from the Japanese. The music also has an oriental sound

The Feds are western capitalists, the Empire was deliberately set up by its founders along the lines of the Roman Empire.

That combined with aspects of the Roman Empire of old.

Federation resembles corporate USE quite a lot and Alliance resembles EU.

I got that impression as well.

A lot of the systems (though it may be the area I'm in) are oriental names. Long, Wong Guin and so on.

1000+ years in the future, and with humankind living hundreds of lightyears away from Sol, I doubt any of the folks living in that time consider themselves to be "European" or "Asian".

Any individual alive in the year 3300 is probably 15 generations away from any ancestor that even lived on Earth.

Its like us defining ourselves today as belonging to different tribes hailing from sub-saharan africa.....its just too far back in our history to be part of our everyday consciousness.

If man, or indeed woman, has spread across the galaxy and settled in space then why would old nations even still exist. I don't think applying todays culture on a game set in the future is logical and am pretty sure FD wouldn't even attempt to draw such comparisons especially given todays social political climate. I believe something as big as conquering space and all it's trials would be a strong enough force to overcome such distinctions. If anything the politics in ED would be resource/financial based and much of current ideology will have become insignificant.
As for accents, it seems all dwarfs are of Celtic descent so go figure :)

Funnily enough I've always thought of the Federation as more Eastern Bloc era or somewhat Russian, lots of Russian sounding spaceport names, and the Empire as an old British Empire type thing perhaps mingling with Chinese/oriental (are we allowed to use that term these days?) aspects. And the Alliance possibly an amalgamation of "true" Democratic countries.

Sorry for my vagueness I've never actually got into the lore fully of the Elite Universe, just my take on how I see ED at first hand.

the good news is with time and expansion, indepdant factions can be helped to span multpile systems, as seen theres small groups who are trying to push the limits. When those groups meet up and 2 factions say have 20 systems each and each player group maybe 100-200 players each helping their favoured faction, we might see a push and shove across settled systems. Once the devs get colonisation up and running thigns get interesting

It would be good for a player driven system for us to try to re-create the British Empire (Brits In Space....)

I wonder if we could find a system (independent) based on a colony of Britain and help it expand? and reform the Empire (or Commonwealth) :D

The House of Saxe Gotha Coburg errr I mean Windsor will rise like a phoenix from the ashes of Old London and reflame the new British Empire

Oh wow I never thought of the empire as being oriental in nature, However none of the names I've heard like "emperor duval" sound like their names are derrived from an oriental back ground, from what I've heard the Duvals have been in power since the empires inception.

Although the Empire is officially based on ancient Roman politics, the capital ships we have seen so far are all names corresponding with UK battleships/battlecruisers.
