It is rather ridiculous, that there are no training missions on either mining (new) or the new scanners, on release of the new features.
Although there is a short tutorial, when you start the FSS.

Its easier to just leave somewhere, enter supercruise and then bind, try it, rebind somewhere else, try again, escape interdiction, try again, bind it elsewhere. Theres a help routine thing as you do. I used my rotaries on my x55 for the tuner. Seemed to work ok till I was disconnected. Cant check till sunday.
I confess though, that I am running outta buttons. I dont use VA, despite purchasing it.

I know right? I really dont understand how i can map it to a controller in a few minutes while some people on PC are struggling with a keyboard..like...i try and picture that person. Their life. What their day is like. Their circle of friends. Their hopes. Dreams. The type of music they like.

I know what you mean. I love VA and have several voice packs, but I'm rarely in the room alone since my partner plays too, and the fact that a car passing outside or a dog barking inevitably gets interpreted as either "lights on" or "target ahead". It also prioritises my partners voice from across the room above mine when I'm wearing a headset.

I did my setup on my laptop, in the Beta. I reckon I spent around 45-60 minutes, in & out of settings, trying to get ALL the keys bound & it still didn't quite work 'cos one of the mode key binds WAS IN THE MULTIPLAY SECTION!!!!
Even though FD 'kindly' let us know (via !'s), where a bind was needed, it wasn't quite that simple when you've used up nearly all your keyboard keys, to get settings to suit your needs.
I tweaked here & there moving binds around to get where I was happy......then I wrote each one down for when the update hit.
Now, I'm finally sorted, still took a while, mainly because I found that I hadn't noted down EVERY keybind...Doh!.
But it took me much longer this time to LOG INTO THE DAMN GAME!!!! than it did to get my keys bounds.
Can't wait for the next major update.....2nd keyboard being ordered for that!!!

You need to set up a Push To Talk Button then.
I had all these problems with VA being set off by TV/Radio and then not being able to interpret what I am saying because of that. Nightmare.
I set PTT and it obviously never activates randomly and is now pretty much 100% on figuring what I say when I use PTT.

I still don't have any idea how you guys have such a problem with the keybinds and all. Took me about 10 minutes to get all the keys configured and figure out how that thing works. And I skipped that horrible tutorial and did it on my own. I mean, okay, many people seem to switch off their brain when gaming, but in this case you simply need to use it. It's not that hard.

But one PTT button gives you access to ALL the VA commands you have and with no pesky interference???

You're right of course, but we all have our quirks, and that's one of mine.
I got most sorted out and ok on my 360 pad, but I put tuning on the left stick and the direction is inverted with no option to change, anyone got advice/solution? I can also fine tune it on the dpad, and that is not inverted so no biggy. Then again I may fart about with mouse+kb controls.
Instead of setting an axis for tuning, put it in manual. Like allways you get multiple options in the control settings
