So I got my rift today and...

Either I am doing something incredibly wrong, or this isn't the greatest thing since sliced bread :p

So let me start of what I really like about the rift:

I am in a spaceship...I look around...I am in a SPACESHIP!!!
The scale of things comes across quite nicely and the head tracking is so uberawesome, it really helps when fighting.

Now the things that I dont like:

The pixels...I knew there would be pixels going in...but I didn't expect it to be quite that hectic. It really kills the immersion for me.
Everything is blurry...no matter what I do, it just wont come into focus.
No matter what, can't manage to read text.

I have tried all the guides on here and I just couldn't get the game to run at a point where I felt immersed. There were moments when it happened, and then it was amazing...but then back comes pixels and boom, gone is the immersion. I really hope that this is sorted for the consumer version :)

Check your IPD dimension.
Not just with the rift tool (which can sometimes be a little off) but also here: https://pd.warbyparker.com/
If your IPD is significantly above or below the 63.5mm that the rift is built to, then you'll never be able to get stuff into focus. At least not without making fitting adjustments to the eyecups.

The Screen effect that you mention is subjective. While initially you tend to notice it, you will find out that one adapts to it and it becomes essentially invisible unless you actively look for it.

As for the focus; the rift will give you proper focus for only 2 settings provided by the A or B lenses. So, if your vision is not 100% (0 dioper for the A lens or approximately -2 diopers for lens B), or the lenses are not providing a proper hardware centred IPD then there will be some aberration. In addition, looking outside the centre of the picture with your eyes only (versus turning your head toward an object of attention) tends to amplify distortions as the driver assumes you are looking straight ahead with you eyes.

For the text: The game currently renders text on the UI on the same layer as the background (even though it appears closer), making it very difficult to properly renders - most of us tend to improve reading by using the green text modifications and leaning into (or getting closer to it), but this will not help if the proper focus can't be achieved as above.

Finally, remember that it's a developer version (you did mention it) ;) Improvements with the drivers - latest SDK now provides for layering which should help the dev in improving legibility in a future patch and the accrued resolution and other internal improvements in the CV will hopefully make all the current niggling issues moot by this time next year.

I assume that you've read the compendium, but if you missed the GUI section and the SweetFx section, those will address your two issues to a huge degree

This helped a lot m8 :). Thanks

I did...but the majority of the blur seems to come from IPD issues. But thanks for the assistance :)

dont forget, your IPD measurement should be done here: https://pd.warbyparker.com/
not in the oculus tool

this one helps a ton

the dk2 is not a connect and play device...it takes hours of setup and tweaks to dial in to your eyes/preference.

but when you do....wooow

make sure IPD is correct, ideally in the 58-68mm range
if you are too narrow you use the B cups, if too too narrow you get custom cup spacers, if too wide same idea.

sweet fx, green hud, super sampling
search forum for answers to all this, or just read dr akaii compendium. it works wonders

hopefully you pc is up the task as well, or that will be more frustration.

super sampling requires at least gtx 970-980, amd 290x+

Blur can happen if your IPD is way WAY off. but ALLSSOO... a lot of people don't realize that when in the rift, you aren't really supposed to look around with your eyes. You look around with your head/neck, and leave your eyes looking forward, as the clearest section of the lenses will be when looking dead center. You end up moving your head a bit more in the rift than you would in real life. If the center of your vision seems blurry (im not talking about SDE here)... then you have an issue with your lenses/ipd/eyeballs

- Make sure you bring down your graphic settings to the point where you get smooth game play
- Make sure you get sweetfx working correctly
- Make sure your camera has a blue light on, when in the game (if not, you don't have head tracking)
- Make sure you're running 1080/Monitor/75hz
- How you position the HMD on your face can greatly affect how blurry or sharp things look. You need to be looking dead through the middle of the lenses. If your eyeballs were really low on your head, for example.. you might be looking over the top of the lenses in the rift. Manually move the HMD all around and see if it "comes into focus" at a certain position.
