So lets get this straight.. Our commander names are no longer unique?

Rubbish, ED was concieved as PC game. So I'm out exploring and come across a system I have yet to visit, only to find that I have actually visited it, because its got my name on it, even though I've never been there before.

That is a good point. A very important point. I can understand that would be annoying for some..

Not surprised that the different platforms allow the same cmdr name. What does surprise me, Greatly I would say, is that there is any sort of crossover such as you describe. Can we really see Discovered By tags from XBox and later PS4? For one thing I was really hoping for a Fresh new galaxy when (if) PS4 comes along. It doesn't apply to things like CGs, right? Or Powerplay? I'm not matched against them in CQC.

Surely there is some mistake here??!? FD?

Why would there be a fresh galaxy? Apart from anything else imagine the resources it would take to store and maintain two.

They share everything, except seeing each other in the same space.

If anyone out there sees a "Frank" smashing into the side of a Coriolis Station, or being demolished by a Harmless Sidewinder I'd like them to consider that it might not be me that is being humiliated, but it is in fact my XBox doppleganger.

Just don't ask yourself how they managed to make their way over to the PC Galaxy

I keep making the same complaint to Facebook but they just don't get it.

On Xbox One the Commander name is their gamertag, which isn't controlled by us.

Oh my. This means any form of video or screenshot proof that a player cheated, harassed, insulted, spammed or combat logged in the game cannot be trusted any more. Someone could just get the game on XB1 and copy someone else's CMDR name from PC, then do shenanigans to get that person in trouble; even if customer support can sort it out and identify this situation, reputations could be ruined by this.

How does this work with "reserved" Commander names like "Braben" and "Jameson" then?

If FD can't control the gamertags that are used on Xbox, how can they stop someone from posing as CMDR Braben etc?

I would suspect they can't unless they thought of this dilemma before now and reserved them.

What madness is this?

You what?

So if I have this right, whilst we all share the same galaxy our commander names are now only unique to each platform (i.e. xbox, PC, PS4, linux, etc..).

Without being rude I'd like to point out that many of us paid to reserve our commander names for the game. Shouldn't our commanders be unique to the galaxy?

Simply FD's way of telling the player community that PC players, XBone players and PS4 players will never, ever, EVER meet in a common universe.
