So lets get this straight.. Our commander names are no longer unique?

You do realize that this has been the case every since the Xbox version went live about a year ago right? As far as I can tell, the world didn't cave in since then.

Your armor is very white and shiny today. [cool]

Its only just come to my attention.. Funny how Frontier didn't say anything about it at the time.
Please provide me with your NI number, name and DOB if you don't mind, I'm sure you won't mind if I borrow your identity.

Secondly, I don't recall there being any "pay for your commander name" so I'm not quite sure what you mean by your claim that you paid for your unique commander name.

Go read the KS page, we paid to reseve our names for the game, not for the platform, I realise its inconvienient now but without mugs like me there wouldn't be a game. Too much to ask for these things to be honoured?

Quoted from KS:

Reserve your Commander name in the game (first come, first served, except Jameson), plus all rewards above.

To answer the question on first discoveries, they are tagged as "Xbox" if they were done by an Xbox commander.

Never, ever seen that. Even if true its still not acceptable. What about top five wanted players?

If a player is reported, FD are capable to tell whether it was an Xbox or PC commander using telemetry.

LOL, In case you didn't get the memo reporting players for anything is a complete waste of your time.

Finally, since Xbox and PC players are in different instances and never meet each other in space, it's actually very unlikely that they would end up reporting each other. This confusion will more come into play if they ever introduce cross play with Xbox, but in that case I suspect they would put some kind of platform symbol on the HUD.

Its really not the point, our cmdr names and identity in the game are unique or its not. You might not care but one game world = unique avatar name. Its not like this is WoW. I mean can you imagine there being multiple players in EvE using the same name as the head of goonswarm?

Nah, this is just stupid.

I am eagerly awaiting the next ED community "scandal" tomorrow night.

I doubt you'll have to wait very long, the management of this game has much to be desired I'm afraid.

This is the most insane thread I have ever seen... if this was that etc? Nothing has happened yet (same first discovered) and the chances are slim (we are dealing with an entire galaxy!). Seriously everybody get a grip and chill the .... out.

eh. you specials always have to cry about something..

But for once I have to give you right. It's really not a good thing if the Commander Names are suddently not uniqe anymore. Eighter seperate the universe of those platforms from each other entirely or make sure that the commander names ocer all platforms are unqiue. It is what you promised and what you should keep.

Well, as the many surprised responses show, it wasn't common knowledge that the names are not unique across platforms. Now that it is revealed and officially confirmed, the risk of someone abusing this to impersonate someone else is much higher.

They can already tell by the game account type that is doing the reporting. But that is not the problem.

The problem is stuff like screenshots or video footage of some alleged misdeed (let's say using cheats) of a CMDR on PC. It can now be faked by impersonating this CMDR on XBox, then uploaded to Youtube with a fake story. Without dev intervention, the actual PC CMDR could claim all day long it is false while the people doing the faking keep posting more incriminating fake footage. There goes someone's reputation.

Hardly. Remember, cost to change gamertag - unless that person wants their entire Xbox account to be forever in someone else's name...

Is that why FD don't watch da vids dem?

How very patronising.

Cosmos raises a valid point, and is entitled to express his opinion, as are we. This was a "feature" sneaked in. Not announced and would have been heavily criticised if it was proposed beforehand.

Here's another thought for you all.

Two people sharing the same name across an entire galaxy is REALISTIC.

Actually... it's not realistic at all. No one has unique names - there should be at least a million people across a galaxy sharing your name.

Yeah its a common theme around here, moderators white knighting for Frontier. Who'd have expected that?

Well, I hope nobody duplicates mine. It's MottiKhan in the game. If someone was to accidentally copy/paste that, I'd be so disappointed. They could also probably add a period at the end to make another me. And maybe a period in front of it for yet another me. ;)

Clones! Clones everywhere!

Who cares?

Some people paid to reserve name and have unique name on kick starter for elite. That may not matter to you but if i would have bought something that say i will get something i would be pretty disappointed if it turns out that i didn't get what i paid for.
