So.....that Tech Broker

Max factor, you said, "Grind is a choice. Don't like It, don't grind. There is tons of content, how you use it is your choice."

As usual, you only look at this from your own point of view.

We are not all 'white knights'...nor ED disciples for that matter. It would seem however that you are...but correct me if I am wrong.

Nope, you're just a troll. Bye bye.

I'm not eligible for the beta, but I note the tech broker is listed under the column of starport services.

2 things:

We are going to need bigger fonts.

We need a Medical Center selection, with Pain Relief, and 8 Hours Extra Real Life Sleep Granted By RNG services. :)

The Tech Broker allows you to unlock new modules for your ship. I am wondering if the Tech Broker can also unlock new ships. Imaging finding a Tech Broker in Alliance space that unlocks a Turner class ship.

It's an open beta, as long as you own the base game you can join in ;)

.... and I hope that the Tech Broker is not limited to weaponry. :)
It's not.

The only thing that gets me about the personal narrative, is if it is indeed a go and fetch ABC and he will make XYZ available to us (and if it's global) that for me, that's not personal nor a narrative.

I guess at a stretch I can add the personal to making my ship the way I want it, but narrative....

Will wait and see how it works, but I really hope there is more to it then fetch and carry.

Nah, the tech broker is the forum they are delivering new items with.

Engineers change the stats on those items and make them unique.

Different.

Not saying they are the same. Just saying Engineers could've functioned like this for weapon modifications *and* been used to deliver new items over time. Por que no los dos.

So instead of building a rapport with a developed engineer character with an interesting background and specific requirements which provides access to new and interesting equipment and modifications over time, I now dump random goods at Mr/Ms Procedural McGeneratedface at semi-random systems.

Missed opportunity. Don't get me wrong, tech broker is going to be a welcome addition to the game, just that those mechanics could've not only applied to Engineers as well, but been the forum for delivering new content in a more personal way.

To exemplify... everyone knows who Todd "The Blaster" McQuinn is, and Professor Palin, "The Dweller" etc. are. Are you going to remember Fitzgerald when you unlock this? Probably not.

And that's where engineers would've made it much more personal. Building favour, cashing it in (such an underused currency/mechanic), doing tasks relevant to that engineer to unlock relevant tech. I don't think you can avoid the "fetch XYZ of ABC" element so much, if only to build that favour, but it'd make it a bit more interesting.

a narrative is just a collection of events that led to where you are. That's collection is summarized on the right panel and in the ship you're flying. All those stats and modules and upgrades are moved by things you do in the game. The personal narrative in Elite starts with the first spawn with 1000 credits and a Sidewinder. Every choice you made from that point became your narrative.

Now story is another thing...

I do feel that the same mechanic to create narrative is a little disapointing. I already had my adventures gathering materials to modify my modules. I don't want to repeat that to collect more for the tech broker. I would like something new like chain missions to unlock.

Aye after some coffee and a bit more blood to the brain I sort of thought I was querying the wrong word there, I can see where FD are coming from with this, and its one of the things Im looking forward to, but sort of err on the side of caution as it now. ;)

Neither am I a white knight or Fdev disciple. I play the game in a way that makes it fun. If people choose to play the game in a way that makes it a boring grind that's on them and not the game. Sorry you struggle to understand such a simple thing. As to content, yes there is tons of content, what the game lacks are tools to experience and play with that content in a good way, which looks like it is very much changing this year.

I am not blind to EDs short comings. The new trade tools are superb and can't wait to play with that. I am sure the new mining and exploration tools will be just as good.

Combat already has enough tools, so what combat needs is more fleshed out combat scenarios, like better combat zones and the awful res sites which I hate with a passion.

Does that answer your question.

Just out of curiosity ... OK, we know sooner or later we'll get a lot of new toys=modules from TechBrookers. Different types - weapons, hull reinforcements... and another ones will come later .. and then again ..
Question: Will we be able to Upgrade (engineer) them, too ? It would be a lot of work (mean lot of new modules vs several types of upgrade = a lot of possibilities). Will current enginners manage such job (make their offer wider - add some new modules/upgrade) or should we even expect some new Engineers also ?
Just now Farseer offers 22 types of Upgrade .. so she will have to offer how many ? 100, or 150 ? She will be quite busy :) Or there will be 100 engineers total (now we have 20) ? Then Lord , have mercy on us, cos all grinding to unlock them all :)

Only one of those is not a weapon - however, fair point and thanks for the screenshot. :)

Are the flechette's not limpets? I thought they were. ( Haven't seen anyone throwing limpets at enemies in RES. :D - Though.. now that I think about.. *gasp* FD, I want to RP a human Thargoid-wannabe who uses Limpets with burst lasers as weapons! Launch 15 at a time! PlzKThx )

A flechette is quite an unpleasant weapon, designed to do penetrative damage using small projectiles. A remote release flechette probably allows the player to fire off the munition and detonate it when they wish, releasing flechettes to do damage.

Oooooh, okay.
Thanks.

Well, the fact that there was at least ONE ( :p ) item in that list that wasn't a weapon makes me think it'll be a varied selection of goodies.
