So today I got "assassinated"- is this a game rules violation?

I wonder how much they get paid?

I mean, take a contract that pays a heap of credits, hook up with your intended victim, get them to sit in a Sidewinder while you space 'em and then split the credits between you.

Everybody wins. [up] :x

Good roll play if you ask me .... and they communicated as well ... So no wondering, other than who tagged you, what is going on ... I like it .... just do not want to end up in your shoes ... LOL

I was thinking the same thing. Mallard, you don't sound surprised that you were on a list in the first place. Any back story there?

I'm guessing it was due to some piracy I commited during the last community goal- to be clear, I wasn't that mad- I actually decided to sell my main ship and redo my holo-me so I can pretend like that character was actually assassinated. It was a cool interaction- I like to think I got killed off by the dark brotherhood of ED.

Two ships picking on one... Sounds a lot like griefing people to me. Bullies that like to out number their victim(s) just in case one of those victims pulls a smart counter attack. Welcome to the human race. Beneath contempt in my opinion...

And you wonder why I don't want to play in Open with these people... Come on. Get real. Such people playing like this are just <redacted expletive>s. So please don't defend their right to behave like that!

Edit. I think the George Carlin quote above quite accurate.

oh the huge manatee!

I actually thought it sounded like fun. Heck, the players even macroed a kind of cool roleplay message and people are still complaining about it. OP, now you know that you can be tracked through your friend list. Now you know that not every player wants to high five you when they see you. You can choose to use this information to make yourself more self aware and harder to gank, or you can play in a different mode and be done with it. Personally speaking I LOVE to have players like this on my friends list. Nine out of 10 of my friends have either killed me, would like to kill me, or have been killed by me, or best of all a lovely combination of all three.

Oh the humanity.

Could be, but if the line about being hired for the task is actually true (and if their payment was entirely in-game) then that's obviously a legit encounter and is pretty cool stuff IMHO.

I'd like FDev to experiment with allowing player-to-player credits transfer (via a space station holding the funds for the recipient to pick up, same as mission transactions) because it would encourage/allow all kinds of interesting innovative activities and user-generated-content, not just assassination. And an Assassin's Guild is much preferable to random griefers; I suspect some otherwise would-be griefers would be interested in being PvP assassins instead of wandering around bored, at least for a while :)

Right now, scheduling a shared time and arranging a place and cargo and equipment to transfer cargo between ships... it's more hassle than it's worth, so it wouldn't surprise me if the claim of being hired for the kill was (or the payment wasn't in-game), but I'd like for that sort of activity to be more practical and supported by the game.

From recent comments, Frontier would seem to think that ganking players in much weaker ships is undesirable behaviour. But for now it's tolerated despite the EULA provisions against harassment.

If it happens again it would definitely be a good idea to report it, since ongoing targeted harassment does theoretically already get dealt with.

Sort of legit, to me.

As has been said before here: Cut and paste message, for the players that just wants to kill without reason. legitimate game play in this 'cut throat galaxy' and your own admission of 'no escape plan enabled'; just made it easy for them.

The message makes it easier to tolerate; because you are not thinking about them and fuming; you are wondering, who sent them?

The idea of ganking is only valid if you're talking about new players. Anyone who chooses to fly in ships without weapons or defense and gets killed by another player or npc isn't being ganked. They're just dealing with their choice on how they decided to play the game.

Otherwise what you're saying is if I choose to play in an unshielded, unweaponed flying coffin, I should be immune to all players/npcs attacking me or it's "harassment/ganking". No. If it's a choice, you're to blame. The only protected player are players who are new and dont yet have the choice.

Blame; is an emotive word. I would say 'contributed'. In the case of the O.P.; it took three parties to make this event happen.

if you repeatedly target a certain player who is not engaging you, then you have an argument about violating the ToS.

What they did is perfectly fine...and organized.

PSA: Dont accept blind friend requests, and clean your friends list often ...removing those who you dont see online much or no longer interact with.

Unless you want some sauce in your game.
