I was thinking the same thing. Mallard, you don't sound surprised that you were on a list in the first place. Any back story there?
Two ships picking on one... Sounds a lot like griefing people to me. Bullies that like to out number their victim(s) just in case one of those victims pulls a smart counter attack. Welcome to the human race. Beneath contempt in my opinion...
they call it Elite DANGERous ... welcome CMDR

And you wonder why I don't want to play in Open with these people... Come on. Get real. Such people playing like this are just <redacted expletive>s. So please don't defend their right to behave like that!

Oh the humanity.
Oh the humanity.
From recent comments, Frontier would seem to think that ganking players in much weaker ships is undesirable behaviour. But for now it's tolerated despite the EULA provisions against harassment.
Blame; is an emotive word. I would say 'contributed'. In the case of the O.P.; it took three parties to make this event happen. The idea of ganking is only valid if you're talking about new players. Anyone who chooses to fly in ships without weapons or defense and gets killed by another player or npc isn't being ganked. They're just dealing with their choice on how they decided to play the game.
Otherwise what you're saying is if I choose to play in an unshielded, unweaponed flying coffin, I should be immune to all players/npcs attacking me or it's "harassment/ganking". No. If it's a choice, you're to blame. The only protected player are players who are new and dont yet have the choice.
if you repeatedly target a certain player who is not engaging you, then you have an argument about violating the ToS.
What they did is perfectly fine...and organized.
PSA: Dont accept blind friend requests, and clean your friends list often ...removing those who you dont see online much or no longer interact with.
Oh the humanity.
They're just hunting down other commanders.
