So you want to play in Open, eh?

I think it's a great post. Granted, I don't like or play multi-player games much, so I mostly stay in solo.
But open is there for a reason, and in such games, it's the people that put a lot of effort into analyzing the game and organizing themselves that ultimately reap the benefits.

It occurs to me that many players are having PvP enabled (playing in Open) that are not willing to go that far, to analyze PvP mechanics, organize themselves etc., but then cry out to FD to "fix it" when they are slaughtered like lambs.

It may be just me but I get the impression that some of the pro-CODE replies reek of 'don't put me on your kos list or harm me, I support/am scared of you', reminds me of the forums of another game with another group,,,,,now if I could only remember the names involved......

It's very nice to have a list of problems with the game; hopefully Frontier can take these onboard and fix them - NPC ships attacking invulnerable Wanted craft at the expense of others is clearly a bug, for example.

And I kind of feel sorry for CODE; it can't be easy spending all that time and effort trying to "blockade" somewhere, only to have the CG succeed way beyond the wildest dreams of people taking part and having a good time chatting nicely to each other. There's probably something a bit wrong with the game when I felt safe enough on my journey to go have a relaxing bath on one of my two trips.

But mainly: Elite isn't EVE. Thank God. It's bizarre just how much some people want it to be, though.

Whereas all the attackers need to do is stay together and attack anything that isn't them. Obviously they won't attack a combat ready wing.

It's stacked in favour or guerilla style hit and run tactics that always favour the attacker. That's just the way the game is.

Some stats, I was in Hutton for 4 days, 3 flying with CODE. In that time 90% of the ships destroyed were combat ships (no hit an run tactics used), I amassed bounties against me of around $1.2M cr, at around 15,000 a kill that is around 80 ships killed. I was killed 3 times, the 2nd night flying with CODE was the toughest, we had maybe 6 guys on earlier in the evening and there were many wings of 4 against us, some battles were 3 condas, fdl and pythons vs our 4 or 6, all in all there were 4 condas killed, and 1 sent HW. That was the one evening the defense was better organized.

you remind me of GOONSQUAD

i went there in a vulture fit for battle ready to mess people up i brought 2 scrap metal no one attack me i landed delivered my stuff thanks the people there for the sight of other players then left into the void as it was the first time id seen more then one player in the instance id been in

only lamos cry about pvp in open
if your players see me in open tell them to feel free to attack me 1 on 1 anytime win or lose ill thank them for the fight lol

I am pretty much anti code after this. If I end up on a kos list of anyone I may just have to block them in game :I

I made the run in OPEN last night in a ultra light, shieldless Cobra. Figured I would outrun anything that came near me.

Saw a couple combat FDL stalking space within 100Ls, just re-instanced and they were gone.

Turns out I just met some really nice people and had a good experience. You failed.

I think I saw you in SC last night actually shortly before I got vapourised by Mandalorian and wing.

I'd dropped my cargo and wanted to see how the Python would take a full onslaught from a combat wing of four.

Unsurprisingly it wasn't up to the job - crappy shields. If I'd been in my Anaconda though I'd have got away easily.

Spent the next half hour jumping in and out of SC to try and keep you lot busy - worked for a while I think.

... Here's one reason why Code was so successful against the CG participants - organization and coordination ...

Interesting metric for success you seem to have there. Was interesting to have you guys along to briefly add a little spice, but that was all you managed to do.

Some might be; others might simply be able to understand that CODE hasn't done anything wrong and are operating within the rules of the game.

As an impartial, this is my view:

If CODE could enforce their members to, at least, treat other players with some respect (killing players who offer no challenge or bounty or reward without warrant is not right, regardless of the RP spin some might try to put on it) that would go a long way to making things better for all. If they RP'd properly and didn't think up poor excuses to do something (they didn't like the Hutton CG.. there's not RP here, what.. they were angry that hundreds of Cmdrs were taking scrap metal to a station? Yeah, no RP here), that's another thing that would make it better over all. From the sounds of it, it seems CODE just went on a killing spree - that's not a blockade, that's out-right mass murder. So CODE need to up their game and come to the table, and most certainly NOT just blockade something because a) they don't like the event (without even trying to find a good RP reason) and b) because they're bored. That's not an in-game reason for their actions, that's RL issues being brought into a game which others have to suffer for. So, here CODE need to pull their finger and do it properly and for the right reasons.

That said: OPEN is free-for-all. One can't honestly expect to be able to play in OPEN and have it treated like a PvE experience. That's like joining a PvP realm in WoW and crying to Blizzard to do something about the players who storm the capital cities, killing anything that moves as they make their way to the ruler.
Yes, CODE's actions ruin other peoples game play..they're a pirate/criminal group element..that's what they do. That in itself ADDS something to the game, it makes the OPEN universe a real threat.
Honestly, if people can't handle being taken out by a criminal/pirate gang, if they can't be bothered to find friends and wing up and if they can't be bothered to start a Counter-Terrorism Unit (complete with their own Jack Bauer) or their own Elite Defence Force or some other organisation founded to combat piracy then, sorry, but they deserve everything CODE and others like them bring to the table. Those complaining need to learn that they can't have their cake and eat it.
OPEN is a PvPvE environment. So, if traders are being killed by a pirate gang they should DO something about it that doesn't involve crying to FD to change game mechanics of a feature THEY don't like to suit a vision of OPEN that THEY want.

Some players need to learn to adapt.

Disclaimer:
This post may have come off as angry or a rant, that's not it's intention - it's just irritating that people want to OPEN then cry when they experience what OPEN is really like.

I am certainly no fan of CODE and their constant justification of being simple chevos BUT anyone who plays in Open should not complain if they get shot at by another player. We have a choice in this game, we can group together and fight back, stay solo but in open and accept that you might get shot, play in solo mode, play in group mode etc etc. There is no need for FD to step in to "fix" anything because they already have.

Code admits they were out to greif players. Someone better GluttonyFang his day long spin doctoring has been for nought. It must be great exploiting ED's bugs and exploits to make your e-peen big huh? Remeber folks Code will ruin your day for teh lolz but don't you dare fight back or they'll run.

Yep, that's the crux, CODE seem to want to influence and control Frontier in the same way that CIG became, in part at least, a puppet to the groups in EVE, lets hope Frontier have more backbone.

They have trouble making PP work at the best of time. Honestly I'd laugh if in a few months if we get repeat Hutton incidents that lead to open being empty.

So pompous.

"4. Don't ever, ever, ever combat log. Not only do we report every single combat log to FDEV you instantly go on our kill-on-sight list and there won't be a friendly warning."

After that line I fell need to start my combat logging carier immediately.

Actually, me and a few others who were at Hutton were discussing CODE (after we got rid of a few). And it was pretty much agreed that the reason that they are successful is...now here is the kicker that many may or may not agree with....they are very well organised.

Sorry but so what? The reason criminal gangs are successful is that they are organized and pray on individuals that have not organized or are isolated at the time (not formed part of a gang).
This is neither justification for what they do or, more importantly, noy that big an achievement. It takes little or no intelligence to be organized (ant colonies are organized). It just takes time and dedication (read: no life and obsessive) to what you want to do.
It this case it seems they are just dedicated to killing other in game players to make themselves feel superior and interrupt a real community event and then trying to justify it under a thin veil of ‘pointing out design flaws in the game’.
You get these people in all online games, so some extend or another, they’re all the same.

Having said this, the community activity around this strange social experiment by FD, including CODE’s contribution, has brought something to this game not seen in a long time. Something interesting.
It was interesting to see how many actually committed to the travel time, how people play differently when jumping out means another 90 minutes trip to get back, how those with large landing pad ships still contributed, and how such a concentration of CMDR’s brings the usual organized attempts to disrupt the goal.

Randoms not on TeamSpeak or similar, less organized, in combat you would not have the edge.

It is called real-life, often you form a wing, patrol for 1 hour as a wing, then half the wing goes to the station and leaves the game (but still docked in the station) to put kids to bed, eat, walk dog, etc, however the wing is still formed, for later on.

We were on teamspeak, so your saying the reason the other guys in your wing didn't jump in because they were busy doing something else?
Fine but we won our instance and you won yours, congratulations
-
We had 1 guy from US and one from Australia who despite being in our wing NEVER in 5 hours got instances with us
-
Face it, you were unlucky as we were with instancing, you assume way too much, we were on teamspeak, we had wings and couldn't even instance with you when some transporters said you attacked them in SC, we tried for over an hour to instance jump and didn't see you
-
You can't brag you won when you were in an alternate dimension, that's just ridiculous

Note to all considering responding - please remain civil. Failure to do so will result in thread closure for review and possible infractions.

The fact that this is the first time I’ve seen on this forum a moderator felt they had to pre-empt flaming just goes to show both how provocative his thread is and how negative this group are to the game and the community.
I’d also question your motivation in feeling you must protect him so strongly.

We all know the forums rules, if someone breaks them you give them an infraction, just like the hundreds of other threads. Why do you feel the need to treat this thread and it’s OP with special protection?
