No no that's an "Ancient Artefact" they have been in the game for ages, I suspect the "Uknown Artefact" was added in 1.2 :)

I see - typical case of only seeing/reading what you want to see/read.

Reading artifact ... not paying attention to detail - well at least you guys figured it out fast.

Thanks for correcting me, wouldn't want to misdirect anyone - just wanted to see if you are paying attention ;-P *joking*

More eyes the better on the job :)

Having said that - I would like to participate in the hunt but I got no internetz for another week, soooo ... please take your time or I will post more links to irrelevant images for the purpose of prolonging the search ;-P *joking again*

I am beginning to think that forming a wing of combat ships to explore the SSS's in the Regor sector may be a good idea...

Your more than welcome :)...for my part in it anyway :p

Can you add to the OP a list of potential systems that might contain the unknown artefact canisters? It might help to have the search area listed upfront. I am a bit lost as to where they might be with all the info in this thread and the blind alleys. Thanks for keeping the knowledge base organised on the OP, great job! :)

I've been poking around Polaris but nothing there of interest, yet anyways (of course cannot get into the actual system which is permit only, and no neighbouring inhabited systems to try to get a permit from). Left my ship supercruising towards it today just for fun, be interesting to see if it is still in one piece when I get back from work and how close I actually get.

Was there not a Galnet news piece recently about alien artifacts finding their way to Lave area also?

I suspect the canisters will eventually provide a clue to a system to visit, which will provide another clue, which will eventually resolve into getting a permit for one of the closed-off systems which will reveal... something. (the Pleiades were also a Thargoid area in the original Elite IIRC and there are numerous permit systems near them)

Edit: Yeah, thought so: http://elitepve.com/viewtopic.php?t=1840

Anyone seen any signs of said weaponry? I have not been down that way for a while.

Not to burst your bubble, but my understanding is you can't actually travel from one system to another in supercruise. You stay in the current system until you jump to another.

No need to thank me I'm enjoying watching this unfold as much as anyone. :D

I can't post a list because in truth we don't know. MICHAEL!!!! where the heck are we supposed to find these Unkown Artefacts (Thats probably asking for too much of a clue I know).

Trick is has anyone seen this item in game at any point ever and remember how they saw it/got it.

My gut is going with rare random WSS spawn. Why? Now that most of the players are past doing missions or waiting for an upgrade to them why would anyone jump into a WSS? Which could explain why we haven't seen them.

WSS I would be thinking black box? So I NEVER go to them.......perhaps it's as simple as that they are a rare spawn in WSS since 1.2?

Just a theory....but then this is what this is all about.

Just had a SSS with a military convoy, had two Type 9 Heavies
One with Painite and one with Hafniuim 178
Possible if I run into another they might be carrying something different.
Could be a possible way to get the unknown artefacts
Will still check WSS and USSes as well

Hi,

I will explain as much as I can remember.

I was in Timocani, Geawenki, those systems over there. I was doing alot of missions for the anarchy factions down there. I was there for weeks and have only just left there about a week ago. I have only found those unknown canisters there but I was farming missions so went through alot of USS. I wonder now if I actualy only got them from anarchy systems and maybe an anarchy system that has a black market. They are illegal after all.
Also I can't remember how I got them. I used to scan all ships and only loot the big stuff so I certainly would loot for those canisters cos I sold them at Timocani Black Market. I can't be 100% if cargo ships had them or they were in WSS or both.
I might try camp an anarchy black market and farm those USS. I know how to get through them very quickly.

Wouldn't surprise me at all if they can be found in NPC cargo holds. People have reported seeing Hafnium and Painite in them already, and those were released at the same time as these Unknown Artefacts.

Try an Anarchy system that has a black market at an anarchy station.
When I was in Timocani I found at least 3 of those unknown artefacts over there. I also got other artefact's.

100% did not get the unknown artefacts from strong signal source. I know cos I was solo and I never touched the strong signals ever. So that leaves weak signal and USS(I am not saying we can't find them in SSS, just that I never did). I was also pirating so it is possible I got them from haulers from outside USS.

The artefacts are not legal. Can only be sold at black market afaik.
Timocani is an anarchy system. The anarchy station there has a black market.
I wonder if npc traders were bringing them to an anarchy black market.
I was in Timocani for 3 weeks and I looted 3 or 4 of those canisters and I never jumped more than 1 or 2 systems whole time I was there.

I still think this is the best lead anyone looking for unknown artefacts to 'listen' to them has. Thanks for sharing.

I can confirm the Anarchy System theory. I was out in an anarchy to salvage some blackboxes or prototypes from USS when I stumbled upon an unknown artefact. This was weeks ago however. I cannot name the system - long forgotten.

Thanks, I know - but you never know what you might run into or see if a USS pops up...plus I wanted to see exactly how close you can get (was down to 1.8Ly when I left for work this morning and 16 hours remaining or thereabouts after letting it go all night on its own).
