Soontill Relics, the Regor Permit Sector and DB's cryptic hints....

Does anyone remember a video which showcased the sounds of Elite: Dangerous? It had a ship spinning around and when it pointed at things (stars, planets, stations) a different noise ambience played.

It would be awesome if someone could find the video but I'm thinking that there could be a relation between the sound that plays when you are pointing at the 'unknown artefact' and a sound that plays when you point toward the artefact's home system/cluster/sector.

Here is a very similar video showing sound effect ambience in Elite.

This sound a promising lead....what's the book called again? Cmon Tangy tell us more of what's in there, I barely have real life time to play the game let alone read a book on it, :D

If it wasn't for work I wouldn't even get time to come on the forums. ^^

lol I really would like to say more but I think I would get into trouble with FD even if I enclosed the stuff in spoiler tags. However Michael did mention Thargoids in his post, so I will say its all about them. I'm reading through now for clues.

Im doing my bit though currently in Peregrina system, will let you know if I figure anything out. Keep up the great work with this thread Arcanonn

Oh Sorry the book is called Elite: Out of the Darkness

Ok, this is what I'm gonna try. My hunch is that the Thargoids will be found in the same system as the aliens were found in, in the book Contact. There is no evidence to back this up directly, just a couple of (probably wrong) clues. Firstly, we are supposed to "listen", in the movie (and book) listening as hard as we could (literaly) led to the discovery of the message from the aliens, which gave their location to us. Also, there is NO ONE held in higher regards that the writer of that story Carl Sagan, and it's just possible that FD have given a little tribute to Carl by using the star system he used in his novel. It's a long shot, but I'm gonna read the book again to find out which system it was, and try to head off to there. You never know!

In the film, it was Vega (or near Vega) IIRC. Anyway approx 25ly from Sol

Ok,

That's a clue or they're pulling our legs haha

Probably both. But want to try to get out there tonight to verify that and take a screen shot of the station.

@Ancipital Can we have a Screenshot? - to save me the journey plz have PM'd you too

Try "Mostly Harmless" by Kate Russell a much more specific mention about finding an artifact leading to the discovery of the home of the thargoids, with an awesome twist at the end about the thargoids attempting to prevent the discovery heck even the new voice pack for Voice attack has a reference to a character in the book aswell.

Hm! When did Elite become The Secret World, also known for its strange and complicated alternate-reallity-games(ARGs)? Anyway, interesting to see how this develops!

I understand but it's worth a try. It's better than half the guesses people are making.

Actually, come to think of it, even lossless encoding wouldn't help with high frequencies - a sample rate of 48KHz can't represent any signal of >24kHz. (and even that will be badly degraded)

This reminds me of that Cicada 3301 mystery online.... Hang on a second, 3301?! Thargoids are giant insect like Cicada right?! i wonder, maybe there is a link up.

Edit update:
ok interesting(quiet day at work ;) ) the "solution" to Cicada 3301 in 2012 was a website emiwp4muu2ktwknf.onion Note the ".onion" I think Brookesy has taken, at the very least, this whole puzzle we are starting, inspiration from Cicada 3301. .Onion = Onionhead? Cicada =Thargoids? 3301 the year we are playing in? Coincidence? Maybe, but i have a feeling this will be a deep puzzle and might take a long time to follow the trail.

Anyone know if the peregina faction control anything larger than a platform in the surounding systems? Fat clipper here...

Well I've been zipping around Pelegrina for the most part of the day, checking every USS/SSS/WSS I've come across. also cargo scanned every npc that has crossed my path, and nothing.
Time for a break i think, my eyes feel like they're bleeding :p

Anyone tried LHS 412? I am not saying why but maybe worth it. i would but i am currently several thousand LY away heading out to the core . If anyone finds anything I claim credit for the idea.

OK As Michael pointed out there have been several "Nods" to different books in this thread, my Idea does come from a Book (An official FD Approved book) In which there are some direct mentions of certain star systems and relics/artifacts etc directly related to the discovery/source of the Thargoids. The reason I posted the hints here is I was Several Thousand LY's away from the key one mentioned. All of the clues I gave point to the book and the story line.

I was thinking along the same lines as you, in that the best info may come from the books. I actually spent quite a lot of time in LHS 412 after checking the Soontill lead. But hours of searching later and I only discovered the typical salvage you see everywhere, although 3 Anaconda's did try to ambush me by laying a trap with a canister of AI Relics, which I never managed to grab unfortunately.

I think the value of unknown artifacts may be a giveaway too. They're worth over 200K. I'm not sure something worth that much would be found unguarded so I'm guessing we'll have to fight off Anacondas and the like to get at it? The incident with the AI Relics made me think along those lines.

In the book Angel's "Advisor" is an AI named "DORIS" she has turns out to be a trap laid by the Thargoids to stop people discovering the Thargoid home/source LHS 412-iV is where they supposedly find something although not as expected, but it is where she is attacked by "DORIS" and all is revealed.

That was my reasoning for scouting out the system and looking for anything connected to the characters/ship names etc etc from there. we know that USS etc are random so maybe its a case of winging up to take on some of these etc.

Now all we need is to scan a canister and get the Meow Meow Meow Meow song and we're doomed.
