Soontill Relics, the Regor Permit Sector and DB's cryptic hints....

Some of us bring big guns to the party that take out the hull before the hatch opens. Also if you want to loot a friendly or are outnumbered limpets can open the hatch without aggro.

I see. But don't you have to bring down opponent's shields before using limpets? In this case it is Friendly no more I suppose, and you'll get an assault fee, am I wrong?

I spent a couple of hours searching in Timocani last night but to no avail. Plenty of rare goods in convoys in WSS's, plenty of pirates with no loot in SSS and plenty of crap toxic waste etc in WSS.

Does anyone know if the there is an algorithmic change when you have an active mission for, say, a black box - are you more likely or less likely to get a black box WSS if you have a mission for a black box?

When 'I and I Redeye' said he found some Unknown Artefacts, he said specifically he was running missions... just a thought.

Hi,

I did a mixture of both missions and just blatant pirating of trade vessels and WSS. Sorry I can't be more specific than that. I can't identify a source specifically.
I will say this tho. I was there for 3 or 4 weeks doing missions and pirating for anarchy factions. The pattern I saw was one drop a week. If my memory is correct I got 2 the 1st week and then only 1 per week from then on. On the 2nd week I knew these UA were dropping and I was specificaly looking for them when scanning ships and entering WSS. They were my biggest earner but more like a bonus drop. They were certainly rare drops.

When was that posted? was it after Michael's hint? I may be reading too much into this but does anyone else think there are some subtle hints in that piece?

Yeah

"not hearing it does not mean it isn't happening"

Brookesy, are you taking lessons from Sarah in dastardly-ness?

This might seem like a stupid question but is there a "best" ship(s) for getting up close to a canister?

I really don't think we'll be into the realm of minutia with these things. We're not going to need complete silence and the world's best audio card to extract some minor nuance in the 25khz range. I reckon whatever we're listening for will be relatively easy to capture.

As for looking at it, park close enough and use the external view to swing around it.

Anything with a cockpit sticking out the front. Mainly Lacons and Core dynamics ships.

As i understand it, but take what you can get then the opportunity presents itself!

Day before 27/04
Possibly the Expansion of Jita Ten for Equality into the system which is in lockdown and has civil unrest and war pending

*edit*
Sorry if a tounge in check joke of us "Alien Hunters" scaring the locals lead to a side track

@Arcanonn

Do you think it worth putting up a "finders procedure" on the OP? i.e.:-

1 Scoop canister
2 Prep ship to minimise background sounds
3 Jettison Canister
4 Record Sound
5 Take picture of canister from EVERY angle with as much detail as possible.
6 Post on this thread, PM Arcanonn, and agree to meet two commanders to verify discovery. - those commanders repeat steps 1-5 and post confirmation here.

Then depending upon what we find we can discuss and work out next steps - Unless it is a bit simple then the original commander who finds the canister should just go and deal with it and vid the whole thing for our collective satisfaction.

If so we need to agree two "thread official" verifiers....

Perhaps, will add something in a sec, but I may well go with IF YOU FIND ONE GET TO SAFETY AND TELL THE FORUMS RIGHT AWAY!....I would suggest Erimus or someone goes to collect the item. Theres a risk someone makes a video that to low quality...we need to keep the thing for "testing" :D.....If we ever find one!

Yeah we need a secret underground base with a lab. Preferably somewhere volcanic. Agreed, Erimus should be a verifier, if he does not find one!

I'm going to enclose the below in spoiler tags as it relates to a cursory glance at the game folders rather than in-game discovery, though it may help point out some of the things we might be looking for.

I would say, from the below, there IS probably something we haven't spotted, but not much.

In the Win32\items\models folder, there are a number of folders for non-ship items.

Listed here:
AncientSpaceProbe1 (Voyager1?)
AncientSpaceProbe2 (Voyager2?)
BoreMount Huge, Large, Medium & Small - no idea on these though looking below, could be the deployed weapon models for the exterior of the ship for fixed weapons
CargoContainerBlackBox - as it says - the Black Box items - I assume they have their own morse code signal and visual design?
CargoContainerLiquid - as it says
CargoContainerStandard - yup
CargoContainerToxic - these are the ones with the mist around them and the geiger noise?
CargoContainerToxicDamaged - aha... maybe these are the ones with the mist as they're leaking?
CargoUnknownArtifact - well, it definitely has its own model here, so maybe its own noises as well as visual design. Worth looking into as you are here
DroneModels - Probably at the moment just the hatch breaker? I notice that the advertising floaty things outside stations are listed elsewhere as "drones" AdvertDroneA etc - this might be them
GenericDebris - smashing stuff... ship graveyard material?
GimballLarge, Medium, Small -as with Bore and Turret above and below - the models for the weapons
HPCages - Hyperspace cage schematic from the hud, I think
LoadingScreenModels - spinning Orange Sidewinders! Alpha testers will be far too familiar with that one....
MiningChunks - not tried mining, but is self explanatory
NavBeacon - yup, morse code system name and unique model
Pesterbot - now THIS is the interesting one. Reading between the lines on one of the books - could this be something related to Kate Russell's book? Or, it could be simply related to the advertising hoardings above. Is there a message that stems from a PesterBot?
PlanetSchematic - I think this must be HUD world images
TurretMountLarge, Medium,Small - as per Gimball above
WakeSchematics - this one's from the HUD

As a separate aside - I notice that there are 3 grades of fuel listed, as well as Military.....
The highimpact and overcharged objects still have resources in game, but were confirmed to be no longer available to purchase. Some commanders may still have them fitted and have never sold them

If it will help us in retracing Redeye's steps, in Timocani over the last four hours I only worked on USSs and WSSs. I did not take missions at the stations, or pirate clean ships (either after dropping signal sources or in supercruise) so those might be worth others following up on.

Nothing for whole night on LHS 412.
It seems that LHS 412 tips is caming from a novel that I never read, so I'm thrusting who read that.
LHS 412 planets name are curious, instead of LHS 412 - 1/2/3/4, they are named LHS 412- I/II/III/IV etc. I never found another system with this rules. It seems that names are inherited from another civilization ;)

That is interesting, suggests manual naming. Has anyone else found this elsewhere?

Seem to remember reading a post about LHS 412 IV being of interest. does it have rings? if so maybe causing around that might increase chances of a drop. If you still have the will to keep going.

No, If I correctly remember, LHS 412 IV is a Water World without Rings.
Planets outside it's orbit have rings!
