Lyran Betar... "Very" concealed way to suggest Beta Lyrae... ;-)

I'm sitting in Deep Space inside a System in a stone cold FdL right now and have my noise pinpointed at Beta Lyrae, distance 926LY.

I'm getting some very unusual background Audio from that System.
I've compared it with other A Class Stars... but it seems different. It is quite subtle, but after a few Minutes it becomes more obvious.

But before jumping to conclusions, others would have to compare the idle signals with other A Class System Audio they know.

PS.
It's the first time I'm doing this while in an FdL - if the Ship type itself causes different idle/background audio, then it's all nothing.

The sound you hear also depends on what else is in the direction (foreground or background) of Beta Lyare. Is it black space or a lot of stars where you are pointing?

Use debug camera to avoid ship noice. I don't think the targeting makes any difference at all. Only direction matters.

Was pinpointed at the star, which seems bright enough to be clearly visible and dead center as selected Jump Destination (whcih shows up even slightly beyond 1000LY).
Apart from the Galaxy itself in its background, no distinct star that I would deem too close to cause a clear ambiguity.

I'll give it another try with the debug cam - but since it has no crosshair or aimpoint, it'll be quite difficult to precisely center it ?

-- edit --

I saw that switching to debug cam maintains the precise view direction, so that should work.

Hm, Debug Cam removes just about all background/idle Audio that I'm getting inside the Ship.

Must be the ship then...

The Galaxy itself makes a lot of noice. Try pointing the debut cam at the brightest part and turn up the volume. Use night mode for best effect.

Probably absolutely no relation to this at all, but I came across this whilst searching the Internet

Nice, I'm reading Drew's book atm, but I'll have a read of his one next ;)

This bit made me giggle though:
His hands curled into fists. He needed to hurt Colt. But his hands were no match for the commander’s HEMA pistol.

In Holland we have a department store called Hema, a bit like Woolworths in the UK. I don't think I'd be terribly threatened by a Hema pistol, it'd be made of plastic, in a two-for-one deal with a free pen and multipack of post-its, so I'm going to assume that this story isn't set in Holland.

However, I'm going down the local one tomorrow with some recording equipment, because you never know.

Finally, a new lead! ;)

We had a screenie of one a little after that post. I'd call it confirmed. Both major governments are covering this thing up. But are they each aware that other is aware? Hmm

I don't know if the Feds are aware that the Empire has UAs, but obviously the Empire is aware of the Feds having them. We let that cat out of the bag with our Galnet stories.

I'm in HIP 102128 searching for UA's if anyone wants to wing up.

I must say the sss are laughable though. The cargo the trade ships carry is pitiful and it's easy to scoop all the gold from a gold traps with 4-5 condas shooting at you :)

BTW, anyone know where the nearest black market is? I have so much gold and alien artifacts to get rid of :D

Nice find! John is the author of And here the Wheel, one of the rebooted lore books for ED.

Very interesting. Is that book about The Dark Wheel by any chance? Guess what John's forum name is...

I suggest for those thinking - "something else out there" = "must be Thargoid" - having a look at devs statements again ....

(didn't we speak of overly fast assumptions yesterday? ;) )

Which dev statements?

Thargoids were mentioned in the GalNet article so they are valid line of inquiry. We have to make assumptions in lieu of facts but we need to be careful about stating those assumptions and interpretations as facts.
