You need to get your out fitting sorted before you head off.
I didn't know that I needed to get mining gear before I got there. I am already at sothis, hence my question of where is the nearest spot to get mining gear
I'm not in the area at the moment, but if I were you I would checkout to see what options you have at Ceos System...it may have a few items if you are lucky, since you are already at the Sothis system
I did, they have a class one mining laser, and a class 1E refinery that has one bin, which is terrible for mining with in a python.
You could be on to something. I havent seen the out fitting at Li Hai.
I made the same mistake by arriving without a refinery. I went back to the bubble to get one, but I did notice that they have some in stock at Takurua, plus lasers (only class 1) and limpet controllers.
It's not as good as you'll get in the bubble, but it's a lot closer.
I headed back to the bubble and grabbed some gold. I started off scouting, the did a couple of hauls, before switching to mining for a relaxing break. I'm back to haul at the moment so I can watch some TV while I play but will be switching back to mining again. I out fit in the bubble. Not having the right kit nags at the back of my mind so I go back and out fit and grab some gold for the return journey. I've pinged a lot of systems. It's exploration with something waiting at each end of the trip
So I was passing by Takurua & Almagest systems on my way back to the bubble from Sothis system to get more gold...figured I drop by & grab some mining outfitting data for ya.
Takurua /Foothold Orbital (Large pad) 1,498 ls
Had the following items for mining:
Mining Laster D1 - (6,800 CR)
Refinery B2, A1, & E1 - (486,000 CR thru 6,000 CR)
Prospector Limpet Controller C3, D3, E3, C1, D1 - (21,000 CR thru 1,200 CR)
Takurua is 136.01 ly from Sothis
Takurua is 27.83 ly from Almagest

Had the following items for mining:
Mining Laster D2 & D1 - (22,576 CR thru 6,800 CR)

Prospector Limpet Controller B5, A3, A1 - (388,800 CR thru 9,600 CR)
Almagest is 110.38 ly from Sothis

If you scan anything on your way to Sothis, just by the Advanced Discovery Scanner, you get the money but you don't get the planet details. They remain "Unexplored" unless you make the effort to go look which takes effort.
I dunno if this is a bug or not but when exploring systems inside the bubble, I get 0 for belt clusters I didn't give a second thought to look at or scan. Similar to the above.
Does anyone know know if this is working as intended?
As in, you scan and you get cash, no need to go individually go to each body, get within range and scan it beyond your name being on it if previously undiscovered?

This CG was pretty far away (40 jumps in my pirate clipper), but I'm glad I went. Lots of players running gold around, way better turn out than the prog cell one 2 weeks ago. There was even a lot of players between 8-11pm EST, the time when most cgs are empty.

Yesterday I took my not-pirate Clipper with full hold of gold, and it was painful
I took ages even with a-rated FSD and a nice fuel scoop, and had to detour many times due to unscoopable stars + low fuel tank. A Clipper is just not made for long hauls...I'm still parked there, gathering strenght to make the trip back, although with empty hold it should be much faster as the jump range goes from tiny 15ly to more acceptable 23ly...
I'll continue to bring gold in my Asp, much faster and safer trips, although much more vulnerable and only half the cargo.

You might be better off staying with the Clipper but swapping out one cargo bay for an extra fuel tank. I put an extra 16 tonne tank in my Anaconda and was able to get from near Sol to Sothis without leaving the plotted route although I did arrive at some scoopables with only vapours in the tank.
Out of interest, can you sell stolen gold at the black-market and have it count towards participation in the goal?.( apologies if already asked)
Agreed, 16 extra tons of fuel besides the fuel scoop would help a lot. I wanted to buy fuel tanks for the trip back, but there are none as Sothis. It will still take quite a longer time than in my Asp, as the Clipper seems to consume a lot more fuel per jump than the Asp, even though the Asp jumps are far longer. I guess it makes sense, being the Clipper so much heavier than the Asp.
Also the Asp has a 32t fuel tank, the Clipper only 16t, so the used fuel bar per jump is longer, because you have less maximum fuel capacity.
True, but I get a feeling that I can cover quite larger distances with half the Asp tank than with the Clipper full tank. But I may be just a false impression.
I say this because the past week I've been travelling to Sothis in my Asp and from there took over 1500ly away trips for some tourism, including VY Canis Majoris and Barnards Loop in thje same trip, and never worried about fuel a single time, while with the Clipper I started to have "fuel emergencies" shortly after departing for Sothis.

I'm parked just outside the station at Sothis, and I'm pleased to say that there's finally a good influx of commanders arriving.
We might get the Crystalline Gold after all!
