Sothis Community Goal Guide

True, but I get a feeling that I can cover quite larger distances with half the Asp tank than with the Clipper full tank. But I may be just a false impression.

The Asp has a longer jump range than the Clipper as well as a larger tank, it's not called the Asp "Explorer" for nothing you know, in fact I've reduced the tank size from 32 to 24 on my exploring Asp to let it jump a little bit further on each jump.

I say this because the past week I've been travelling to Sothis in my Asp and from there took over 1500ly away trips for some tourism, including VY Canis Majoris and Barnards Loop in thje same trip, and never worried about fuel a single time, while with the Clipper I started to have "fuel emergencies" shortly after departing for Sothis.

Yeah, it is not exactly a fuel economic ship, but they, look at all those pretty blue lights ;)

Of course you could probably make it back on one tank in economic mode, but then the travel time would greatly increase. You should probably throw your ship together on coriolis.io, and see what your new range is, if you replace a cargo hold and bolt another fuel tank on the ship. For my Asp an additional 8t of fuel gives another 40ly range before running out of gas, and if I was crazy and bolted a 64t tank on it, the operative range with one refuel goes up to 530ly or so from 190. It's scary.

Yesterday I took my not-pirate Clipper with full hold of gold, and it was painful :) I took ages even with a-rated FSD and a nice fuel scoop, and had to detour many times due to unscoopable stars + low fuel tank. A Clipper is just not made for long hauls...

I'm still parked there, gathering strenght to make the trip back, although with empty hold it should be much faster as the jump range goes from tiny 15ly to more acceptable 23ly...

I'll continue to bring gold in my Asp, much faster and safer trips, although much more vulnerable and only half the cargo.
Same here. I had to leave the path 3 times just to avoid running out of fuel.

Out of interest, can you sell stolen gold at the black-market and have it count towards participation in the goal?.( apologies if already asked)
There's no black market. Which is strange since someone I talked to said there was one 2 days ago.

I know that the Asp jumps far longer and has more fuel. I'm a heavy user of both the Clipper and the Asp.

What I'm saying is that I get the feeling that it takes much less fuel in an Asp to cover say, 500ly, than it takes the Clipper to cover the same 500ly, regardless of time spent or jump range.

I only saw a black market on Sothis Mining in Sothis, but obviously you won't be able to land there with a Clipper. The other one I know of is in Ceos on New Dawn, but both make those useless for the CG participation.

Indeed, the first time I went to Barnards Loop I also took an extra 64 tonnes fuel tank. The trip back I only needed to fully refuel once. But it was the only time I did that, from then on I only take the stock tank.

Well obviously, the Asp is a lot lighter than the Clipper and fuel consumption is relative to ship mass.

The mining outpost in DARUWUTJA, Green Estate has 6,700 tonnes of gold at 8,995 Cr. No outfitting here. It is one of the systems where you can earn the NASTROND permit.

SOTHIS is 397 Ly away.

There are a lot of Anacondas currently arriving at Sothis, the Goal is on its merry way to reaching at least tier 1.

System next door (large pad station) Ceos has black market

THere's a T9 offering gold in front of the station.

That's very generous of him, regarding that he could just dock and sell the gold.

Lots of very big ships here now, its starting to have sort of an Hutton feel.

If anyone is stuggling with refuelling along the way, the route between Kotaition and Ceos (with ~17 ly jump range) is nearly all scoopable.
Also, Gardner Landing in Kotaition has mining kit (tiny HT), no gold though, but sure there would be somewhere close by.

I hate this CG! It has changed me forever. I used to hate mining, now I love it. I LOVE MINING! There, I have said it. Wish I hadn't downgraded to an Asp though. I could have stayed out there forever in my Python. Silly me :D

Guys,

Update on the start point for the Sothis Run tonight

Lave Radio posted an update to their Facebook page. The start point for tonight's Sothis run is now LHS 6031 and not Wolf 424 as previously mentioned.

LHS 6031 has gold supplies and is a couple of jumps away, so if anyone is confused they will be able to catch up.

I have asked them if they can try to make a waypoint at Compton Dock in Aonikenk for anyone who doesn't want to fly all the way back to Sol area from Sothis - we would pick up additional players at that point.

It will probably be a bit of a straggler convoy as we don't have a pre-planned route, and every ship will have different jump range. We can form into impromptu wings as needed.

Lower range ships will need nearly 50 jumps, whereas an Asp might do it in 30 or less from LHS 6031.

The initial meet point is LHS 6031 at 19.30 UTC, 20.30 BST.

Any escorts are welcome as there are definitely pirates waiting at the other end.

I feel relieve knowing that I am not the only one feeling the same.
I used to hate mining but now... I like it ! And I am no trader, my income is from Bounty Hunting first and then exploration...
What is happening to me ?
