Sothis Community Goal Guide

If you scan anything on your way to Sothis, just by the Advanced Discovery Scanner, you get the money but you don't get the planet details. They remain "Unexplored" unless you make the effort to go look which takes effort.
I dunno if this is a bug or not but when exploring systems inside the bubble, I get 0 for belt clusters I didn't give a second thought to look at or scan. Similar to the above.
Does anyone know know if this is working as intended?
As in, you scan and you get cash, no need to go individually go to each body, get within range and scan it beyond your name being on it if previously undiscovered?

I think this is as intended. You always get 0Cr for belt clusters, but you need to scan one to get the detailed info. If you are mining you need to scan the ringed planets with a DSS to see the detailed ring info also. Scanning individual bodies of any type with the DSS nets significantly more cash (someone quoted >200,000Cr if you scan everything in the Sothis system, for example).

I spent about two hours yesterday circling Sothis at about 50LY distance but couldn't find a pristine metallic ring anywhere, so I've come back to HIP 11879. I know it's only a small contribution to the CG (about 10t of gold per trip, if I pick up other valuable metals as well), but, as Ben says, mining is a nice change of pace and the return is almost pure profit. The only annoyance is that I tried mining in the 1.4 Beta and the improvements to the refinery and prospectors make so much difference. Shame we couldn't have had them in time for this one.

I've lost touch with this CG for some reason, I can't get myself into it.
I set up a mining Python about 4 weeks ago and it drove me mad, still lots of stuff bugging out.

So I could haul it there right? Wrong! The Python has a crap range at full load and I cant find any place close enough to buy gold in a Conda.

Someone save me, or shoot me!

Ah yes, in the paler colour... missed that.
Having trouble finding HIP 11879 2 though as my Int Scanner only finds HIP 11879 1, been flying around for ages :(

If you fly about 3000-4000 ls away from the star and then turn and fly roughly towards the star, you'll be able to see the planets moving against the star field. This is the parallax method used by explorers before they can afford an ADS.

(The ADS should never have had infinite range in my opinion, so this should still have been required to locate very distant companions).

Finally, i will arrive in system later this evening with a haul of shiny gold. Its been a right ol slog getting here from my exploration jaunt:)

Hauling. Down grade everything to smallest D class except A class Frameshift drive. Fit the smallest D class shield. Use the smallest modules possible. In one of the middle slots put a fuel scoop. Loose your weapons etc. Remove armour. Your range will be great. 40LY unladed in an Anaconda. 20+ laden. Get 400+ space of cargo racks. Get gold from Aonikenk. Sell gold at Sothis 600000cr. Wing up with anyone you met on arrival at the station for trade dividends bonus of 5% for all parties.

My trip out from Aonkienk is about 15 jumps. My return trip is about 9 jumps. Bring an advance discovery scanner on your trip and then sell it on arrival.

There's no black market. Which is strange since someone I talked to said there was one 2 days ago.
I'm glad that I abandoned the gold that I dropped for you then - you are an excellent 'gentleman' pirate by the way, well played. :)

Perhaps you pirates could alter your interdiction messages? If you make it clear to your 'customers' that abandoned cargo will sold at Newholm, then you might be quite successful. Personally, I rather make it all the way without getting interdicted, but if I'm going to be robbed then I'd rather the gold still got added to the CG contributions. It's a waste to ship gold all that way only for it to be sold at the black market of another station. ;)

...I want a Anaconda....please pretty please....

Ah if I had just not read your post....& I was so happy with my new Python lol :)

^ this

is almost exactly what I am doing. I tend to pick up from Morrina or Qawasing but there are enough placed to grab gold.

Incidentally, after my second run (the one with the contribution to Jordan) I was properly equipped for mining, so I headed to the pristine metallic ring in the nearby HIP system. I can confirm that mining is much better than it used to be, I can't wait for the prospector limpet improvements in 1.4. :) But after half-an-hour messing around before bedtime, I'd mined a few tons of each of the most precious metals, but still only 62% of a ton of gold!

Hopefully the gods of RNG and mining will be kinder tonight!

Good point, I don't normally like to ask for cargo to be abandoned, it seems very OOC and gamey, but if you think it'll help. I already contributed 100 tons to it, so I wouldn't mind if it made it to at least tier 1.

Hi!
I fitted my DisConda with two 64t fuel tanks additional to the standard 32t (160t total; NO Fuel Scoop), and it's capable to move 308t for astonishing 432.55ly (20 jumps)... Now called JumpConda.
It can go from Guayambaan/Willis Station (+700000t Gold Supply) to Sothis/Newholm Station in 22 jumps and back in 15... in 40-45min. It can be adjusted because it arrives to Sothis with 15-20% remaining fuel...
Thanks Ben for the guide!

Nice one Ben, sorted, I'll try and drum up some mates as well, "never fly solo" lol:D

Since abandoned/jettisoned is an IC part of the game, I'm sure you could work in something from the CG description to give a nicely roleplayed IC message that asks for abandoned cargo, so you can give it those damned Feds or something. I hadn't even realised that the post about a black market was wrong until your earlier post.

sothis cg.jpgWell, at Sothis now with second load, total 640t so far. In open and all is quiet, no sign of any pirates yet.

Not a massive amount of time to be on tonight for me, but I aim to make three round trips for around 1200 tonnes.

I hauled a smallish 256 ton load into Sothis with a mining-equipped Conda - and went to mine in the system Ben recommended in the OP (HIP 11879 2 , ring A).

First of all, a trade-Conda retrofitted for mining is not the most efficient mining ship, for that task I really prefer a python.

Ben's mining spot is really great, lots of Palladium, Platinum, Painite. Gold - not so much, I got 27 tons on a full Anaconda cargo hold (256 in this configuration).

Lastly, 1.4 beta/gamma has spoiled me. Mining is so much more fun in new version (400% fragment yield increase if using prospectors, fully-automatic refinery) that going back to 1.3 is kind of "meh". I guess I will rip out the mining equipment and do 450 ton hauls instead.

Yup do the haul. Time is fleeting.

That's bad luck. I've mined that ring twice and got 10t and 7t out of 64t hold. It's not the highest metal, but I can keep contributing a dribble to the CG. Combined with the hold-full I brought to start with I'm hovering around top 60%.
