Hmmm. I'm not sure how you are replying but his original message was "Where can I buy gold near Sothis?".
And roostrat, try eddb.io. Click the "Find Commodity" button on the far right. Then, enter Gold and choose Sothis as your station. It will show you the nearest places that have gold with all kind of stats.
Depends on your definition of "near"...
Nearest place to find decent amount of gold is more than 300 ly away.

"Li Hai" is another system with gold. Not exactly near, but... it's there.

smiley to my post, but I thought that the joke was obvious enough even without it...Indeed, that's where I stocked up before my last trip to Sothis. It won't make a profit worth profiting, as gold in Li Hai is expensive. But I guess nobody's really doing this for the money.

Exactly. The more absurdly distant and unaccessible, the better. I like the feeling of expedition / journey / danger. Actually having to prepare for the trip, and plan it before starting it. Feels like an adventure.
Some of the last CGs were very good.
I think I forgot the planning part. Was more like, open map, point and go... After noticing Ben's post I steered a bit and grabbed a mining rig along, but other than that - same as with all my exploration treks: choose a target and go, and see what comes up while en route. Sort of nice I have a habit to refuel whenever I can, even if I have a lot of fuel to burn - trek to Sothis had long streaks of non-scoopables for me now and then.

I've been running between HIP 111496 and Sothis, seems a reasonable distance (all things considered), and there seem to be very few unscoopable stars along the way.
It's also on the way back to Gateway for those pledged to Mahon.

For bubble-people something like 600LY may be a long trek. For anyone with explorer blood it's "in the neighborhood"
