Double shifts for Sothis dock workers, but no-one is complaining
“It’s unbelievable” Said dock worker team leader Sigourney McLoughlin in an interview earlier today.
“In the past week, since those scientists made that announcement it’s been nonstop. At first it was a hand full of ships, but then they just kept coming and coming. On a normal day, out here at Newholm, it is just supply ships, company mining ships and the odd explorer. Twenty ships was a busy day. Right now we are pulling double shifts and have taken on dozens of new hands. We’ve been logging over one thousand ships a day this week.
“No-one is complaining though. It’s not just gold that Commanders are bringing in. There has been a huge upsurge in private mining and prospecting in the surrounding systems. All sorts of high end minerals and metals are on the market, which means there is a lot of money going around. We are all on time and a half for those extra shifts.
“After work its all people are talking about in the bars and clubs; this Crystalline Gold. No-one has a real idea what is it going to do, but the rumour mill has gone into overdrive: New ship cooling systems, long range frame shift drives, there are even people talking about new processing plants being build directly on the sea floors of ‘the Twins’ (Sothis A5 and A6), and companies looking to buy up those old Moray Star Boats to ship the gold directly down there.
“All I know is we are making a packet, and it feels like we are on the front of a massive expansion again, back like it was in the early days out here.”
Local authorities have also warned Commanders that there has been a spike in piracy in Sothis as well as gold prices and traffic.

Just wanted to share WREDGUIA WD-K D8-52, -356:39:-340 , 29ly (2 jumps?) from SOTHIS.
This system has a Metallic Belt and a Pristine Metallic Ring (A - inner ring) around the Gas Giant.
I've done some mining in 1.4 beta and it's all going to change.
No more micro-managing your hoppers - and the ships lights stay on unless you switch them off. (watch out for that one if you're trying to sneak into a station)
Also, if the quantities of ore that we get from rocks (in beta) is carried over to 1.4 then I recommend a rubber band to hold down the trigger on the mining laser.

Forget mining, you'll never make it to top 60% mining. You'll be far better off making a couple of runs in a T6 or Asp.

I'll continue to mine today, and i'll make a lot of travel with my T7 after...

Well, you say that, but my T6 isn't quite so well built....
During a run last night, I was popping away from the console to wash the dishes during refuelling (I throttle right down close in)... bet you didn't realise the T6 had a kitchen sink (Class D2)!
Anyway, long story short, I came back to the console amidst a storm of smoke, flashy lights and warning messages, 130% heat, not sure how long it had been like that... obviously got something wrong there... Pulled up, headed away from the star as fast as I could with the failing everything.... and then.... just as the temp peaked...
Cargo Hatch Malfunction, jettisoning cargo!
And there went a third of the gold...
Lesson learnt.
Huge big balls of thermonuclear fury should not be left unattended.

It was around 90t I think that I got from top 90% to top 60%.
