Sothis Community Goal Guide

Man this is proving to be a tough CG. It's clear that there are between eighty and one hundred very dedicated commanders out there - remains to be seen if I'm one of them!

This CG will require an exceptionally large amount of dedication to be in the top 5% if one is not flying an anaconda. I expect nearly the entire top 5% to be comprised of anaconda pilots.

I ask because your definition of "complied" and my definition of "complied" might be quite different. If you did any of the following, in my eyes, it's not complying:

1) Successfully evade interdiction, requiring me to interdict you multiple times.
2) Boosting or moving away at any speed.
3) Charge your FSD.
4) Deploy hardpoints to fight.
5) Going into silent running.

Doing any of the above is non-compliance, and will result in ship destruction. To avoid ship destruction, bring your ship to a complete stop, at which point I will say 'hello' cargo scan you, and specify an amount of cargo to be jettisoned as 'abandoned'. Assuming full compliance, you'd be free to go at that point.
I'm not criticizing your method, but I think you're being a little too harsh which could hurt your profits. If I used your piracy rules instead of my own I would lose at least 1/3rd of my income.

Once a player's drives are shot out, they are usually more amenable to your "request". You might be losing money by just blowing them up outright.

Anyway, you're free to do as you wish, no judgment, I was just offering my perspective as a fellow pirate. Imo the most important things for a pirate's profit is, a wide range of macros, aim to shoot out the drives, and the ability to control his itchy trigger finger.

Woah, hold on a second - I submitted to the interdiction (I didn't try to evade it). Once out of supercruise I boosted away, set target to another system and started charging FSD. Then BOOM. That was our first ever encounter.

If your intentions are to get cargo, shoot out drives and use limpets. At least say "I want X cargo, stop now or I'll shoot".

You are in a superior ship to what I was flying, with the added advantage of being outfitted for PVP, after all.

I'm not against piracy, I believe it can add to a much richer game, but I haven't experienced any players doing it right yet, unfortunately.
Am I reading this right? You tried to flee and then he blew you up? That sounds pretty fair to me. Perhaps he should have shot out your drives, but it's not on him if you try to escape.

So as I'm greeted with instant lasers I'm supposed to stop and wait? Because so far that's how I've been hailed by pirate/interdicting CMDRs...

Do you see how this turns into a vicious cycle?

We have just past one million tonnes collected!
Well done everyone!
We are now at Tier 3 and will get an allowance of 20.

Here is the rewards structure at the new tier:

Then I didn't read it right. It sounded to me like you fled first, then he killed you.

Any ideas where the border between 30% and 15% lies now?

Somewhere between 900 and 1200 tons, mine ticked to the top 15% somewhere in there.

A fun bit of play on this CG, and I'll have to come back from time to time to collect a supply of that Crystaline Gold! Not to mention a few interesting exploration areas I've spotted while hanging out at Sothis.

Hi Rapidfire, I met you in SC on my way into Newholm after my mining expedition. :)

I'm really enjoying this CG, I've done a lot of deep space exploration, Buckyball Runs to Sag A*, etc, but Sothis has a great "out on the frontier" feeling to it that's very atmospheric.

I wouldn't have had time to join the counter-piracy efforts yesterday, so I just dropped off my mining haul (only included 40t or so of gold unfortunately) and then made a third cargo hauling run to get back into the top 30%. I didn't spot any pirates on either visit anyway, although there was some salty banter in the dock at Newholm. Yar! ;)

I should have time to switch ships tonight, so I'll try to join the counter-piracy crew with my minimal pvp skills!

PEREGRINUS19, Jordan linked to a video uploaded by the FDL bounty hunter in a different thread. Your Epic arrival in Sothis / heartstopping moment when the FDL turned your way is in the last couple of minutes:

Thank you for the link, it was fun to see my sidewinder from another CMDR's view lol ;)

For those of you flying into Sothis at the moment, be careful as the Sothis system is being patrolled by a pirate .
He seemed an honorable pirate asking me to throttle down while he scanned me and then only asking for around 20% of my cargo.
I didn't give it to him as I'm flying a heavily shielded anaconda but had I been in a smaller ship I would have complied as he seemed a good enough sort.

I was his wingman in the FDL, unfortunately he had a slow internet connection so we kept getting split into different instances. On that occasion we both interdicted you at the same time (instance bug?) and I got kicked out of supercruise into empty space with a long cool-down... hence why you had a lone adder to fight lol :)

The instancing gods were kind to you!
Indeed they were.:D Taking on an FDL in an ASP wouldn't have ended well for me.:(

Wondering this myself. I got 481 tonnes yesterday and went to the 30% tier, would love to keep it, though my math says otherwise...:(

Was he flying a Clipper? I don't get why anyone bothers targeting us guy's flying Anaconda's.. It is amusing tho, one guy had the cheek to tell me not to run :p

Am enroute now, will see who's out there.
