Horizons Source and return missions, interdicted, dead in 5 seconds

Hello there!

I hope i'm not alone with this problem..
I have accepted a Source and return mission, found the stuff few jumps away. The mission got updated it says kill enemies for an additional credits. Fine!
So when i leave the station and heading back to finish the mission, i've got interdicted. I have a 3mil ship (keelback) and the enemy is a 50mil ship (fer-de-lance). Guess my chances... I've got shot in less then 5 seconds...

Is it intended? If so, then I should not accept any Source and return missions? Or wait until I have a 200mil ship??
I've done many Delivery missions and did not have this problem at all... Only with Source and return missions.

It's just sad.

Is there a way to determine the mission's difficulty somehow? Or maybe try these missions around the hq system or controlled systems? I will fight back a Cobra mkiii for example but against these heavier ships I have no chance at all...

The issue is that any cargo sets off interdictions, missions also generate interdictions. Your combat status (supposedly) also sets the type of ship that interdicts you.

The ships that interdict me are generally in the same class as my ship (my Python attracts a lot of FDL's and some Anacondas). My Corvette attracts mostly only Anacondas. Because of my combat status they are usually elites. My ships can outrun any NPC and I only fight when I can set the tone of the fight. Key is run and avoid if you are a trader. Whatever ship you use needs Engineering. It is is almost required if you want to advance in the game.

Did you note the rank of the FDL? What is your own ranking?

In regards to a more capable ship, that is what you have to works towards, particularly if you want to do cargo runs. I have not used any dedicated transports ships since pre-Engineers, they are just too limited and vulnerable.

The mission descriptions are pretty generic and as far as the state of the system or a relationship between the factions affecting the missions, there are none that I have noted or read about in the forums. If you're allied with a faction it sometimes results in better paying missions

Mission rank determines the potential risk. Potential, as not every mission will have the update (but quite many do) of the additional ambush kills.

If you take 'Elite' mission, the interdicting NPCs labelled 'Mission Target' will be sporting Federal Assault Ships or more capable combat ships combined with combat rank of Dangerous or better.
If you take 'Peddler' mission, the interdicting NPCs labelled 'Mission Target' will be sporting low tier ships (Sidey, Eagle, Cobra III, Diamondback Scout) combined with combat rank of no higher than Novice.

Then there are the general interdictions, difficulty of those is based on your Elite rankings, not by system government/economy/security (and this automagic difficulty scaling is REALLY STUPID in my opinion).

I've started the game a few days ago, so I'm a newbie.

My combat rank is "Harmless", since I have started as a trader. My trading rank is "Merchant". The systems are "friendly", I'm not hostile. I did not check the rank of that FDL, but is it matter? I'm dead in 5 seconds :(

I chose this ship (Keelback) because it has some more combat capabilities than a Type-6.

Should I start combat missions and get money from there first? Or try only Deliver missions where I did not have any npc interdictions so far?

Oh and another question: I saw some videos on YT where the player famed money with shooting some wanted npcs near asteroid belts. He did not kill those because the npcs were much bigger ships but waited for the cops to nearly finish off the wanted npcs then shot them a few times and collected the bounty reward.
When I tried this method I've got attacked right away and dead nearly instantly. I did not attack anyone and did not carry any cargo. This method only works in a sidewinder? Or does it work anymore?

So the problem is if the mission is higher rank than mine? It has a red text warning for that, don't remember if the mission had that.
