Ok, so I'm probably the last KS backer, alpha tester etc to hit the heady heights of Elite rank.....and only in trading ! LOL. It's taken a long time, but I finally got there a few weeks ago. But I'm proud of not using any exploits or get rich quick schemes. I did it the old fashioned way 'a la 1984' ethic 
I wouldn't call it a 'grind' because I've enjoyed every minute of it...more of a career decision
Hitting that goal I decided to spend a few credits and purchased a Beluga and fitted it out as I wanted it....probably cost about 275 million. The ship has its critics, but my god it's a beautiful ship ! Passenger missions are something new to me, but certainly make a profit ! I've been spending a LOT of time (by my standards) ferrying folks to Gessi Vista and Gillikens Gateway mainly.
But I'm wondering if the increased space hours are having an adverse effect. Recently I think my mind is finally going....now and again when I return to Jameson Memorial I swear blind the station announcer says 'Craziness Commander' as I dock. Have I finally gone insane ???
