Space Legs WISHLIST

Hi Commanders
Many of us believe that 'Space Legs will drop in the 'fairly' near future and many of us have our own 'wishlist' of features and scenarios we'd like included, I thought that I'd start a thread so players could give FD a few ideas that they may not have thought of including,

Now, this is NOT about whether you believe spacelegs shouldn't drop at all, it is not about FD fixing bugs before anything else, nor is it about anything else negative... this is a Positive thread about things we'd like to be able to do when using our legs.
:If someone suggests something that you don't agree with then I'd rather you not enter a discussion about the why's and wherefores and degenerate the thread into a mire, it's meant to be a 'list' of features for FDev to consider implementing and they'll do the vetting (if they ever read it) so I'm hoping for a little self monitoring as I'd like to
keep it clean and positive... thanks in advance for your consideration.

Some of the obvious things to include that many posts have mentioned in the past would be...
To be able to go outside our spaceship for EVA work, maintenance and the like,
Walk around our ship and look out of the windows,
Walk around on a planet and perhaps collect samples of the local flora fauna and minerals etc,
Chat face to face with other commanders and NPCs in Bars, Docks, etc, perhaps work out 'better' deals face to face than while sitting on your ship through the screen... (though that may be seen as pay to win if 'as I expect' legs comes as a paid expansion)
Searching derelicts for salvage,
Piracy and ship theft through boarding (need some sort of stun weapon rather than a projectile)

:I'd like to be able to walk down my loading ramp and have security board and search my ship for contraband... (though this would need FD to drop the use of the all seeing scanner, or perhaps introduce a scanproof hull... lol)
:I'd like to watch my cargo being loaded and off loaded, (I understand that wouldn't suit those wishing to continue with the 14 second turn around)
:I'd like to decorate my base with 'trophies' from my exploration exploits... (assuming we get base building with enough freedom)
:I'd like to be able to go hunting for exotic lifeforms, and or take Safari missions... (if/when we get full Atmo's)
:I'd like to see the spare seat occupied by a moving NPC,one that gets up and walks around... "get me a coffee while you're up please" from where it says 'hot surface'

What's on your wishlist?

Trying not to get carried away, but riffing on the 'leak' plus possible station internals hinted at in the files...

Anything from this list would be cool:

  • Player loadout options: weighted to combat / stealth / planetary survival etc (depending on below gameplay)
  • Dodging or combating enemy minor-factions in stations: depending on local security level / relationship etc
  • Extensions to existing missions:
    • Escort the cargo to its depot. (IE: a PvE variant of the classic PvP mechanic where proximity to the cargo transport moves it on, but enemy dominance re-routes it. Allowing for tactical route control, team work for difficult variants etc)
    • Sneak the data to its final destination (aided by low-profile load outs / use of EVA in low-g locations)
    • EVA into the hulk of a defeated target to capture useful data. Combat & environmental dangers likely.
    • EVA to take samples from the visited phenomenon
    • Travel with the passenger to the ideal viewing position.
  • Ship internal activities that make multicrewing more involved: IE roles that complement Helm plus compete with it for engaging gameplay. (Excessive dreamscape here: The Mobile Mechanic)
  • VR motion controller support: With controller-relative motion and hand-held weapons. And then a sliding scale of dream functionality, IE:
      • Virtual joysticks & panels as an alternative to HOTAS, allowing easier transition, & potentially a cool 'virtual cockpit' interface.
      • A degree of hand interaction with world items
      • Lone Echo style EVA locomotion via hand-holds & jets.
      • That full 'mersive, inverse kinematics arm recreation business.
      [*][*][*]
  • Thargoid-based content for much of the above.
  • NPC dialogue options: Allowing for potential barter / bribe / threaten etc interactions, both with pilots in flight & station-based NPCs.

---

There's a whole world of dev involved in every point above.

The stuff I'd also be cool with, but am less exited about would be:

Less Excited:

  • Interaction with mission givers: If some of the dreamscape stuff were to happen, like synthesised voices, or Braben's old aspirations for contextual interactions, then that could potentially be both immersive and rewarding on a gameplay front. Ditto if there was gameplay involved in accessing them (say learning about them from assembled gossip, or running an EVA / combat gauntlet to establish initial contact). Shy of that level of gameplay or experimentation it does make me fear long transits for scant benefits. IE the classic 'menu is better' scenario.
  • Base building &/or survival gameplay: I'm just not seeing it at the moment. Possibly with hand mining / auto-mining set ups / auto-cred-generation / future atmospheric threats & discoverables it'd make sense, but for now I'm sceptical.

I like all of these ideas, personally I really just want to be able to walk around and inside my ships and the stations.
Maybe be able to rent and customize a hangar and walk around my ships and them board one hop in the pilot seat and fly it. Same thing with fleet carriers.
Sit in a bar and talk to my friends face to face.
I do think it would be cool to be able to go and actually speak to our contacts for jobs and to turn in bonds etc.
I like Skips idea of supervising freight offload and on load but maybe make it optional so that if you are in a hurry you can just take off.

Shoes.

At the moment, most of the clothing is upper body, and footwear is just a generic part of the spacesuit. If we're going to have working legs, I want to be able to choose my own shoes.

And Engineers for the shoes.
Unlocked by walking from ship to spacebar in 50 different stations.

Blueprints to include:
Lightweight: Increase walking speed
Thermal resist: Improved resilience on hot planets
Fast reboot: Allows quicker change of shoe
Efficient: Increases sprinting stamina

Can they be engineered to look especially fabulous? I would hope so.

I think what players would have to do is Hide the Contrabands under different Cargo names. Or behind other Cargo. So the user might have to buy extra cargo to hide the Contrabands.

I wouldn't mind some survival light gameplay. I wouldn't want it full on like NMS.

Watching cargo unload could be pretty easy to implement. Certain ship actions (repair, cargo operations, outfitting) would queue up actions in a "landing pad action chain" so if you just stay in your ship or walk around the pad you eventually see technicians doing everything you just ordered: moving cargo, painting the ship, swapping hard points, etc. But the actions you do really take effect immediately, so if you want to just take off immediately, you can.

Yeah there are definitely variants that could feel very Elite. I'm just not seeing it as a rich vein prior to Atmos though. Outside of classic EVA struggles against the space elements. (It's all theory anyway, as it's never been a big gameplay style they've mooted. Space man space games always seem to gravitate towards it inevitably though ;). I guess the base building refs are just triggering NMS images in my head ;))

I think the key one is going to be cargo loading. If they want to have the whole 'sneak in amongst the cargo' mechanic they raised back in the day, they'll want to have some kind of unskippable process you'd think. Even if it's just a short window. (Which I'd kinda hope it is, as it could play into 'skilled entry' while potentially keeping menu-only station interaction snappy).

(I kinda doubt they'll go full blown 'mersion in terms of queueing up relevant external animations. Reckon they'll have their plate full managing general representations of an active station. Could imagine generic ground crew actions etc being a thing though.)

Wish list.
That space legs come with a full length mirror.
And that someone comes up with a nude mod, just like those Fallout ones.
