Speculation on the new era

You raise a good point, historically we shouldn't be expecting too much from FD for the New Era.

However, they will have been focusing nearly all of their team on this update for two years by the time it comes out. They are focusing on it so hard that nearly nothing else will have been done nor implemented within those two years. I have to think this New Era will be a sizeable and meaty update. If it isn't then what have they been doing for those two years?

I'm giving FD the benefit of the doubt and I expect something tangible and substantial. I might be foolish for putting some faith in FD, but eh, I've certainly been wrong about FD before, lol.
My guess the new era is just marketing to keep the player motivated. No hint for new era so far and slow development for maintenance mode. 100 ppl are working out the new era on fancy power slides... Dilber, Dogbert, Ratbert ähhmmm :)

New Era is for new players who are happy to play a dozen hours, then move on to the next game.
Its one of the normal buisness models for the games industry. FD have already milked all the old timer Elite fan bois, no more money to be made there.

Evidence :
New Player Experience work
Mining Mega Credits
If I get atmospheric worlds I pay full price again.

I'm so used to dissapointment from FD that I've set my expectations to practically nothing these days but we cannot forget The New Era is a paid expansion. If people are paying money it by definition has to deliver and in giant spades.

I always struggle with the people who expect to get disappointed. I believe that's an oxymoron.

If you fail to fail, then you've succeeded. If you succeed to fail, you've still failed.

As for Expectation Management - Frontier does a pretty good job of that - they simply don't say anything. Nothing said, nothing to manage.

Where the problem likes is in Speculation. Frontier would have a hard time Speculation Managing. And people are dumb enough to speculate wildly, and fall for it when someone posts a scan of a redacted sheet of printed paper made up of some random speculations and calls it a "leak".

We have to manage ourselves first. The rest will fall into place.

I’m not entirely sure of what the New Era will actually contain and so far not particularly fussed about either Fleet Carriers or the expected, um, hoped for, no hang on, potential of space legs. I’m a VR user so I’m not convinced it can be implemented well in VR and the thought of switching to and fro between screen and headset isn’t an exciting prospect for me personally.

I’ll probably just wait and see what the content creators show, read any open letters and decide whether it interests me. Though whatever does come along I’m just hoping npc crew sharing the bridge/cockpit is tagged on. Oh, and I’d like Kenneth to be happy. SSC for mini mining fun.

There's nothing to speculate if one expects nothing. But how does that attract and keep up interest? It doesn't. If something is to be expected but nothing is given to speculate, one can speculate anything. Blaming the people achieves nothing. A mixture of bad decisions and bad luck can be blamed. So, in conclusion, I'm expecting spacedragons. At least they won't shut it down because that would hurt their rep.

True, FD haven't given us any clues as to what we should expect for the New Era. Literally any speculation is just as valid as another.

I'm revising my speculation. I think the New Era will be bark mound farming. Implemented as an addon feature where players can start their own bark mound farms, grow crops, and sell them on a very competitive market for credits. Build your farm from nothing and grow it into a bark mound empire! Buy new equipment, drive the new Harvester SRV, enter Space Fairs to see who can grow the largest bark mounds and win ribbons!

oh and you can still fly ships too.

I expect, at most, a handful of new missions, some fluff (a few new ships etc.), lots of old bugs, some new bugs, and that's pretty much it. I am not sure there will actually be FCs, anyway, given that those have been delayed twice already.

Yeah, that sounds pessismistic, and I'm still convinced it was a good thing to focus on bugs, but, honestly, I don't think we'll see that much. Yes, I'll keep playing the game, but given that they tell us nothing, the safest to assume is there is (next to) nothing.

I can't wrap my head around people expecting that much of changes/content/stuff.
Seriously, FD can't implement a fleet carrier for over one and a half year, stuff which is basically in game more or less since
two years (Gnosis, bases, etc etc etc).
And you believe the game will be completely rebuilt? If that's not a recipe for "expectationgeddon" I don't know what is...

Well, one can have different expectations for 95 people working on next era for years Vs a handful of dudes working on carriers as well as other stuff.

To speculate it is necessary to have a minimum of clear statements.

For now I am not aware of a statement from Frontier concerning a topic in the New Era.
