So you have 100 hyperthreaded staff working on Nu Era? Then my expectations have doubled.

I've questioned for the past few years how what we see being released for this game infers 100 people working on it... I have trouble seeing it...I still believe that "100 people working on E: D" quote includes the cleaning women, doorman, HR department and the 50 people working in PR.
I'd rather engineer all my stuff then accidentally remove all the mods and have to do it again, before ... etcI'd rather engineer my stuff before playing Star Citisnt.

1. The 100 number likely includes many people who indirectly work on the game. Positions like community manager, payroll accountants, store content artists and coders, marketing people, QA, etc. So when FD says 100 people are working on Elite realize that the actual number of people improving the content of the game itself is likely to be a much smaller number.
ZacAntonaci said:The 100 is based on the majority of the team who work across a number of departments. Programming, Art, Animation, Production, Design, Tools, Engine and a number of other technical departments that I'm not really qualified to talk about. Then in addition to that we have a number of other areas such as our online services/server teams and QA who also work very hard to deliver the best content possible.
The Elite Dangerous devroom has 100 people (+- 5) for gameplay/content creation; this excludes QA, audio recording, trailer team, website, etc who were in a different area.

They're dedicated to Elite Dangerous, at least that's what we were told. Got no reason personally to doubt them. It doesn't include QA testers. Not HR, nothing like that. (source)

I am lucky enough to be an ambassador for both JWE and ED and see a lot of people saying that one development is taking away from the other but this couldn't be further form the mark. the elite team is sizable, and still growing through an already expansive office (where they are very good at hiding their screens!) (source)
For the record, yes, the numbers of people working JUST on ED are what they say, their other games were on other floors and no, jobs like HR and finance etc staff weren't part of that number,.It was all people actively working on Elite. Compared to my last visit, they arent kidding when they say the team has never been bigger.
helloitskolo said:I can completely echo what others have said about the staffing levels. There is half a floor, exclusive to ED. I can also confirm that many of them came to say hi and were genuinely interested in our reactions. (source)
You can bet on it!I guess 'the next era' will be delayed aswell. ETA: 2021
Sounds like a plan! I am inMy guess is the New Era will be a core rewrite of the game's code, allowing the following:
In short, Space Legs and Base Building, plus a bunch of stuff as secondary content along with them.
- First person mode, Space Legs, Elite Feet, it has many names.
- SRV's are now multiplayer and multicrew compatible. Might even get a new SRV with multiple seats in it.
- Player surface base building will be a feature, think small outposts like Dav's Hope. The store has cosmetics to buy for them too.
- Much improved in game lighting system.
- Coriolis stations, outposts, and surface bases now have areas to walk around and such.
- Salvaging space wrecks will be enhanced to include EVA salvaging of scrap and components.
- Ships now have interiors, and the ARX store now has decorations to buy for inside your ship!
- Thargoid pilots and soldiers will be implemented, and players can invade hives to have first person combat with them.
Some other stuff I'm hoping to come along with it:
But hey, thats just my hunch.
- Planet caves and sinkholes (spelunking!!).
- Comets.
- Ice planet revamp.
- Flying in gas giant atmospheres.
Bsse ship is 40 quid, that'll do me.Now that I'll believe when I see it. How deep are your pockets by the way?
Probably be console only, PC joining the Mac guys!Given the timing, I suspect that Frontier want Elite Dangerous: The New Era to be a launch title for the next-gen consoles; so while a delay is not impossible I also suspect they'll make rather more effort than we've seen from them recently to avoid it.
Fair enough, but I refuse to buy a game which has a £20,000 add on, regardless of this being optional.Bsse ship is 40 quid, that'll do me.
Of course it's not the work of a 100 people and it's not going to look like it. Most of them are working on the next era. There is only a very small team working on the current upgrades including fleet carriers. Finally thanks to the acknowledged problems by Frontier releasing Carriers, we finally can try to know and get the answer that their work it didn't seem (subjetively) to correspond to the effort of 100 developers (my opinion) because they had all the time serious problems with the code. Something that remind me the problems with the CryEngine in Star Citizen. In SC for example there are a serious lack inability to fill certain key development positions, really needed because the problems of build an mmo over that engine. So you can have 100 (that surely FD have today working in Elite) or 300 developpers, but you'll have bottlenecks and delays, and bugs everywhere. And that retrospectively reminds me some releases of this game, like multicrew.
I prefer they acknowledge those problems and get into work. So I haven't problems with the delays if they work to kill the dragon.

I think that main issues we have had in the last update have all been to do with the Arx you get for playing the game. Obviously code has had to be added into virtually every part of the game which could cause a lot of issues.Of course most of the team today is working in the new DLC, I was speaking retrospectively to the problem of perception about it (since Horizons, Multicrew). The disaster of ARX and the code problems with new content and the delay of carrier had been enlightning. At least for me, in my opinion.
I think is good news their honesty today about that problem and their new compromise.
