Speed indicator

Hi,

I'm probably missing something but can someone expkain the speed indicator on the hud to me?

There seem to be 3 elements.

1. The rectangular bars
2. The bar that move up and down on top of the bars ( presumably power setting or similar)
3. Some smaller 'pips' immediately to the right of the rectangular bars.

Welcome any info.

Thanks

Tim

1. Current speed
2. Desired speed set by throttle
3. Best speed for turning

Put 2. Into 3. And when 1. Is in 3. You will get the best turning turning speed.

Thanks Ydiss,

I'd understood that the blue section to the left of gauge was for best speed for turning. Is this. It right?

Thanks

Tim

Yes, the blue indicator is used to determine the best turning speed.

You basically have three scales and on these scales there are lines which become lit to indicate a value.

On the left scale, you will only see blue lines becoming lit. This indicates the sweet spot where you have the best turning speed. The sweet spot may move up or down depending on your maximum speed.

The middle scale is thicker which is why the lines look like lines. This indicates your current speed.

The right scale is narrow, which is why the lines look like pips. This scale represents your maximum possible speed and will always stay lit. It may go all the way up depending on how much power you assign to the engines using the power distribution on the far right (after the ship hologram).

On top of the three scales there is a narrow line which represents your desired speed. You move it up or down with your speed control and the ship will accelerate/decelerate to match that value.

here is HUD explained :)

Also, your current speed isn't just forward speed. If you're using thrusters to move down and forward, the current speed may increase above what you're throttle is set to. This is because your main thrusters are pushing you forward but your down thrusters are adding to that. The end result is you are moving faster than your set speed but also moving down and forward.
