Spring 2024 DLC Speculation

I would rather not a domestics pack if it is the last pack, which is why I stated in my above post it was in a scenario where it wasn't the last one. I really feel some domestics are needed for building more realistic zoos. For the last pack I'm hoping for something that includes animals from all over but with at 3-4 being from South America.
In all honesty if we got a full year of content, even if it were 3 scenery packs and one finale pack, I personally would have no issues with one pack being a Petting Zoo or Domestic Farm animals theme. Imagine Central America Scenery Pack, Alpine Scenery Pack, Petting Zoo/Farm animals Scenery Pack, finale pack with 12-15 animals.

I sincerely doubt we'll get 4 packs, but if that were the scenario and we actually got 25-30 animals, I'd be fine with it.

It's just.. until we see something in the files leading up to release, we've got nothing beyond the fact that "something" is coming. We've speculated it to obliteration at this point.

How about a little game. a little winnowing down. Take 3 animals you really want in the game, and 1 that is popular but not necessarily a big priority for you. You can keep 1 of your 3 as a balance or consolation but have to throw out your other 2 as a balance to something that is popularly requested. For example:

Spectacled Bear - Saved
Patagonian Mara - Removed
Brazilian Porcupine - Removed
Hamadryas Baboon - Added in since I get my Spectacled Bear

Out of all ideas for the finale pack, I think these are the most probable ones.
  • New World Pack (8 animals + scenery)
  • Global Expedition Pack (8 animals + scenery but would make more sense if it was just 12-15 animals)
  • Latin America Pack (8 animals + scenery)
I’m scared now because I think the new world pack makes the most sense because the last few packs haven’t had any focus on the Americas. Great for South America, but my baboon :(
I truly do think we'll find ourselves with a more 'general' feeling pack as a send-off rather than something specific to a given region. It would just be kind of a weird move to leave certain animals out (e.g., secretary bird, tree kangaroo) in favor of loading up on Latin American animals. There's definitely gaps in the roster for that region, and I'm bummed because it really deserves so much better, but... I dunno. It feels like doing that would be leaving too much on the table as far as animals people really want in game.

This is all to say: Don't give up hope! A baboon would be a solid African rep alongside the secretary bird (though if I'm being real about it; forget the baboon and give us the honey badger).

This is why i'm slightly hopeful that we might get two more packs. One focus on Latinamerica (the only region that hasn't been revisited yet since i count the Twilight pack essentially as NA part 2, but could also be an all América pack as well) and another final "anniversary" world wild pack with community favorites.

Part 3* since arctic is mostly NA aswell, animal wise atleast.
That make we realize that we got 2 scenery pack where the animals are mostly NA but the builing stuff is european which is kinda weird

Interesting idea. And thanks all for keeping the discussion going about this wonderful game!

Here's what I'd love to see added:
Wood duck (*saved)
Tanuki
Howler monkey

Ocelot (*added in)

Hard Game

Greater rhea - Saved (the most useful one of the three)
Southamerican coati
Patagonian Mara

Short-beaked echidna - Added in

Looking at the final meta wishlist from 2023, a regional focus on Latin America would do really well for Frontier in terms of getting people what they want. Coati, howler monkey, and spectacled bear are all in the top 10. Golden-lion tamarin and ocelot are in the top 15. None have dropped off in demand really in the 2024 list either. Worth noting too, that if they happened to pick the mara for this roster? That would be another top 15 for the 2024 list too.

The rest of the top 15 species are pretty disparate regionally, and I guess you could make a case for Africa with the secretary bird and baboon being top 10 and the grey-crowned crane and mantled guereza being top 15... Africa's got a lot of in-game species in contrast, and frankly, these animals are a lot more complicated.

They'd get more bang for their buck with a Latin America pack, I think.

Though a global animal pack with a slightly expanded roster would probably be the best of all worlds for everyone if we're being honest...

(Note that I focused on the 2023 wishlist when looking this over because decisions were probably already made by the time the '24 list hit.)

Not only that, but looking at the 2024 list so far, there's currently 4 from Latin American in the top 10, and numbers 11 and 12 to go along with that.

Think about that for Frontier. Half of the (current) top 12 animals in the 2024 meta list are from Latin America. They would have to be completely clueless to not revisit Latin America, and I don't think they're clueless.

Well, there's the rub, isn't it? The ideal would be a Latin America scenery pack followed by a more global, broader, and expanded animal/scenery pack to end things. Because that's where we're at pattern-wise.

If the next pack is truly the last one I suspect it will be more like an animal pack + scenery. And, I dunno how the community would react to that at the expense of the secretary bird, tree kangaroo, musk ox, baboon, markhor, grey crowned crane, etc... Especially if the size of the pack really showcases the end.

Personally, as I type that out? The LA pack honestly works better for me (save for my beloved tree kangaroo!) but it just feels like a last animal pack roster would likely be more global to me... And taking that stance they could still get the big LA species in (coati, spectacled bear, howler monkey) while bringing in some of the other heavy-hitters from other areas as a "best of both worlds" sorta thing.

RIDDLE ME THIS.
What would be THREE updates you'd like to see in the Spring DLC?

A few I'd like would be:
  • Petting animations for select animals and guests
  • Playgrounds
  • Certain Exhibits can house multiple species like the butterflies (the tree frogs, certain bugs, maybe the iguanas?)
  • I wanna see the actual textures again, optimising the game to a level where it can actually take the piece count of a larger zoo
  • Free Iguanas, Turtles and Tortoises
  • Exhibit update with more sizes, the ability to mix suitable species and a mixed system where some animals can be both exhibit and habitat so that everyone can pick and choose. Give baby reptiles the ability to be put in the exhibits and to be transferd to a habitat/trading center once they are adults for example, got a feeling that especally the ladder would be great for franchise zoo

- Scenery Hitboxes Being toggleable. Would singlehandidly fix all the stupid hitbox issues and doors

Ideally if we just have one pack left, make it half global, half Latin America pack. Two exhibit animals and around 10-12 habitat animals total. Of the global side of that, 3-4 birds, then the Baboon and Muskox. Tree Kangaroo misses out at the expense of the work on the birds and a couple of the Latin American species.

With that, we get the Howler Monkey, coati, Secretary Bird, Muskox and Baboon of the higher requested animals, only missing out ob the Tree Kangaroo and Walrus.

I would much rather have two packs left, but this is how I’d do it with just one pack.
